In the early hours of August 10, 1991, a mass shooting occurred at Thai Buddhist temple Wat Promkunaram (Thai: วัดพรหมคุณาราม; RTGS: Wat Phrom Khunaram) in Waddell, Arizona, killing nine people. At the time, this was the deadliest mass shooting at a place of worship in U.S. history, until it was paralleled by the Charleston church shooting in 2015, which also killed nine people, and then superseded by the Sutherland Springs church shooting in Texas in 2017. As of 2024, it is the deadliest mass shooting in Arizona history.

Luke Air Force Base (IATA: LUF, ICAO: KLUF, FAA LID: LUF) is a United States Air Force base in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. It is located 7 miles (6.1 nmi; 11 km) west of the central business district of Glendale, and 15 miles (13 nmi; 24 km) west of Phoenix. Luke AFB is a major training base of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), training pilots in the F-16 Fighting Falcon. On 31 March 2011, the F-35 Lightning II was announced to be replacing the F-16 as the primary training aircraft at Luke, although the date of deployment of the new aircraft to Luke and reorganization plans were not announced. On 16 July 2013, the Air Force announced that Luke AFB will house a total of 144 F-35A Lightning IIs. The first F-35A Lightning II arrived to the base on March 10, 2014.It is a designated superfund site due to a number of soil and groundwater contaminants.

Citrus Park is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States. The population was 5,194 at the time of the 2020 census, an increase of 28.9% over the population of 4,028 in 2010.

Canyon View High School is a public high school in Waddell, Arizona, United States. Operated by the Agua Fria Union High School District, it is the fifth high school in the district. Construction on Canyon View High School began in September 2017, following a groundbreaking ceremony in January 2017. Designed by DLR Group, Canyon View features an informal setting, with open and malleable classrooms and a design focused on blurring elements of indoor and outdoor settings together. Canyon View cost a total of $78 million to build, and its campus covers 237,000 sq ft (22,000 m2). Canyon View High School opened in 2018 to a freshman class of 451. As of 2022, the school offers multiple Advanced Placement courses, 23 varsity sports, and various extracurricular activities to its 1,899 students. The school's demographics largely consist of Caucasian and Hispanic and Latino American students.

Imagine Prep at Surprise is a public charter school in Surprise, Arizona, and is a member of the Cambridge international program offering the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) and Grand Canyon Diploma along with college level courses. The school opened on September 2, 2008. It is operated by Imagine Schools. The school is a member of the Canyon Athletic Association.

Waddell is an unincorporated community in Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, northwest of the city of Phoenix. Waddell is named after Donald Ware Waddell, a native of Ohio, who was a partner in the New York City investment firm of Brandon, Gordon and Waddell. It was this firm that organized the private financing for construction of the dam for the water reclamation project that creates Lake Pleasant. The intended Waddell town site was laid out by Donald W. Waddell in 1935, on property he owned on the northeast corner of Waddell Road and Cotton Lane (Section 12, T3N, R2W, G&SRB&M). Waddell moved to the area to oversee the firm's interests in the project. He served on the board of the Maricopa Water District and invested in land through his interests in the Arizona Citrus Land Company and the Waddell Ranch Company. In 1937, the Waddell Post Office was established inside the store on the original town site. Later, the post office moved across the street and shared space with the cotton gin office. The current Waddell Post Office was built in 1992 and is located on Glendale Avenue and Cotton Lane, four miles south of the original site. The town never did develop, but remained a post office and place name for the area.The dam on the Agua Fria River that creates Lake Pleasant (once called Frog Tanks Dam then, Pleasant Dam) was renamed for Donald W. Waddell in 1963, shortly after his death, in recognition of his contributions to the Maricopa Water District. Barry M. Goldwater spoke at the dedication ceremony.With the expansion of the city of Surprise, use of the name Waddell to describe the location is rapidly falling into disuse. Influence of the name can still be seen in the name of Waddell Road, an arterial street running through Surprise, as well as the New Waddell Dam at Lake Pleasant. In November 2010 the White Tank Regional Library opened.The community contains the Wat Promkunaram Buddhist Temple. This facility was the site of a mass shooting in 1991 which left nine people dead, among them monks and temple helpers. It remains the deadliest homicide incident in Arizona history since statehood. Sixteen-year-old Alessandro Garcia and 17-year-old Jonathan Doody were charged with the crime, convicted, and sentenced. Doody was tried three times and sentenced to 281 years of prison in 2014.

Millennium High School is a public high school in Goodyear, Arizona, United States. Operated by the Agua Fria Union High School District, it is the second high school in the district. Millennium High School was established in 1999 as a separate high school after serving for several years as Agua Fria North High School, in relation to Agua Fria High School, out of a separate campus originally established in the 1980s for freshmen only. As of 2022, Millennium offers 23 varsity sports and various extracurricular activities to its 1,965 students. The school's large Hispanic and Latino population helps make up a majority minority. Millennium is ranked 3,986nd nationally and 67th in Arizona by U.S. News and World Report.

The Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD), also known as Maricopa Community Colleges, is a public community college district in Maricopa County, Arizona. Headquartered in Tempe, MCCCD is among the largest community college districts in the United States, serving more than 100,000 students each year in the Phoenix metropolitan area.The programs offered at MCCCD include those leading to a two-year associate degree and occupational certificates, as well as online classes and dual enrollment programs. The cost of tuition for Maricopa County residents is $85 per credit hour, as of the 2022–23 academic year.

The Maricopa County Library District is a public library system located in central Arizona, United States. It is the largest library system in the US by population served.The library district serves unincorporated areas in Maricopa County, Arizona. In addition, the district partners with cities/towns and school districts to operate their libraries. The district operates 15 libraries. Each year, the Library District welcomes up to three million visitors and holds thousands of free events and programs for all ages. More than 60 libraries from across the county participate in Maricopa County Reads, the award-winning Summer Reading Program created and hosted by MCLD. In 2020, the Library District held nearly 6,000 events, including 700 online events, and circulated 7.5 million physical and digital checkouts. For Maricopa County and Town of Queen Creek residents and property owners, a library card is free.
