Manitoba School for the Deaf

John Taylor Collegiate is a public high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division and is located at 470 Hamilton Avenue, in the Crestview area of Winnipeg. The school was founded in 1964 and commenced construction March 1964 with a proposal had a budget of $984,000. The architectural firm of Herman and St. Lawrence was hired and the school was named after a colonial settler of the area of the same name.

Assiniboia Downs is a Canadian horse race track on 150 ha (360 acres) of land located in the Winnipeg suburb of St. James-Assiniboia. It is operated by the Manitoba Jockey Club and is the site of the annual Manitoba Derby. The track is located on the western edge of the city, near the intersection of the Perimeter Highway and Portage Avenue. It was opened on June 10, 1958, replacing the former Polo Park Racetrack, which was demolished to make way for Polo Park Shopping Centre. Thoroughbred racing season events run from May and end in September. Harness racing events operate during the winter months.

The Red River Exhibition (or "The Ex" for short and historically as Manisphere) is a ten-day festival hosted every summer, in June, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The event takes place at Exhibition Park and features a midway, concerts, stage shows, and agricultural exhibits. The park is operated by the Red River Exhibition Association, a not-for-profit organization. Winnipeg's The Guess Who played there in 2015, and the Crash Test Dummies played there in 1992. The Ex was started in 1952 at the Osborne Stadium complex near the Manitoba Legislative Building. It later moved to the Polo Park Race Track and then to the Winnipeg Stadium, Winnipeg Arena, and Winnipeg Velodrome facilities. In 1997, it moved to its present location. The total amount of land owned at the western edge of Winnipeg 480 acres (1.9 km2). Red River Exhibition Park was built as a multi-purpose facility on only 90 of those acres leaving almost 400 acres (1.6 km2) for future growth and expansion. The annual fair continues to grow despite the fact its arrival is frequently accompanied by significant amounts of rain, (seven days out of ten in 2014). The record for attendance at the Ex is 223,183 paid visitors, set in 2011.

Hockey for All Centre (stylized as hockey for all centre, formerly Bell MTS Iceplex) is an ice hockey facility located in Winnipeg, Manitoba near the Red River Exhibition. Owned by True North Sports & Entertainment, the 172,000-square-foot (16,000 m2) complex contains four arenas, and serves as the practice and training facilities of the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League and Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League, and host of various minor hockey teams and competitions.

Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia—Headingley (formerly known as Charleswood—Assiniboine and Charleswood—St. James—Assiniboia) is a federal electoral district in Manitoba, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1997.

Westwood Collegiate is a high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The school teaches grades 9 to 12. Located at 360 Rouge Road, the school is part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. In addition to the Provincial Graduation Diploma, Westwood also offers IB Diplomas through the International Baccalaureate Program. The school's mission statement is "to empower all students and staff for the choices and challenges of the 21st century while working and learning in a safe and supportive environment."

The Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club is located in the northwestern area of Winnipeg, in the community of St. James. The curling club was started up in 1929 and was nicknamed the 'root cellar', it had only 2 sheets of ice at the time. The AMCC moved to their current site, at Vimy and Hamilton, in 1962. This new location was built with 4 sheets and then expanded to 8, as it has today. A small fire destroyed part of the clubrooms and arena in 1972, most of the original structure remained and was rebuilt. In 1992 the AMCC addressed the problem of the shifting Winnipeg 'gumbo' under the ice sheets. The ice was dug out 6 feet beneath the curling rink, filled with sand, and covered with styrofoam to prevent shifting of the ice. The AMCC is the home of the 1995 world champion Kerry Burtnyk rink

Assiniboia is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was first created for the 1879 provincial election, was eliminated in 1888, and was re-established in 1903. It is located in the westernmost tip of the City of Winnipeg. Assiniboia is bordered on the east by St. James and Lakeside, to the south by Kirkfield Park, to the north by Lakeside, and to the west by Morris. The riding's population in 1996 was 20,441. In 1999, the average family income was $53,881, and the unemployment rate was 6.50%. Retail trade accounts for 15% of the riding's industry. Until 1920, Assiniboia was a marginal riding between the Manitoba Liberal Party and Conservative Party. Between 1920 and 1949, it was a hotly contested riding between the Conservatives and candidates of the Independent Labour Party and Manitoba Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF). The riding was dominated by the Liberals from 1949 until 1977, and then by the Progressive Conservatives from 1977 to 1999. The New Democratic Party of Manitoba's (NDP) victory in 1999 was completely unexpected, and occurred by a margin of only three votes. The NDP took the seat in the 2023 Manitoba general election.

Robert Browning School is a French-immersion public elementary school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Generally, students from this school passing to grade 6 attend École Ness (the only middle school in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division that has French immersion available) if wishing to continue with French immersion, otherwise they generally attend Lincoln Middle School which does not have French immersion.

The Historical Museum of St. James – Assiniboia is a museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The museum primarily consists of a two-story post-and-plank house built in 1856 and once owned by William Brown and Charlotte Omand. The home is furnished with pieces from the period between 1860 and 1890. The museum also features two other buildings: the Municipal Hall Building built in 1911 which contains exhibits from the St. James-Assiniboia area and surrounding parishes and an auxiliary building which features exhibits concerning blacksmithing, farming, and transportation.

Camp Manitou is a summer camp, year-round outdoor recreation facility, and non-profit charitable organization located in Headingley, Manitoba, Canada, just outside Winnipeg. It is operated by the True North Youth Foundation, a subsidiary of True North Sports & Entertainment.Camp Manitou was founded in 1930 by a group of six service clubs in Winnipeg: Rotary, Cosmopolitan, Kiwanis, Kinsmen, Optimist, and the YMCA, with the Lions Club joining in 1953. It was incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1949 with the mission to provide a camping experience for underprivileged/at-risk children and youth.

Kirkfield Park is a provincial electoral division in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was created by redistribution in 1979, and has formally existed since the provincial election of 1981. The riding is located in the westernmost tip of the City of Winnipeg. It contains the neighbourhoods of Glendale, Westwood, Kirkfield Park, Woodhaven, Birchwood, Booth, Silver Heights and part of Assiniboia Downs Kirkfield Park is bordered to the east by St. James, to the south and west by Charleswood, and to the north by Assiniboia. The St Charles and Glendale Country Clubs are in this riding, as are the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens and Assumption Cemetery. The riding's population in 1996 was 20,236. In 1999, the average family income was $63,038, and the unemployment rate was 5.80%. Almost 13% of the riding's population are immigrants, including 6% German and 5% Ukrainian. Over twenty per cent of the riding's residents are over 65 years of age. The service sector accounts for 15% of Kirkfield Park's industry, followed by 13% in retail trade. Since its creation in 1981, the seat has been nearly continuously held by the Progressive Conservatives. Previously it was won by the New Democratic Party only twice, in 2007 and 2011, until 2023 when the NDP's Logan Oxenham picked the seat up a third time after having originally been defeated in the previous year's by-election.
