Assiniboia (provincial electoral district)

The Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club is located in the northwestern area of Winnipeg, in the community of St. James. The curling club was started up in 1929 and was nicknamed the 'root cellar', it had only 2 sheets of ice at the time. The AMCC moved to their current site, at Vimy and Hamilton, in 1962. This new location was built with 4 sheets and then expanded to 8, as it has today. A small fire destroyed part of the clubrooms and arena in 1972, most of the original structure remained and was rebuilt. In 1992 the AMCC addressed the problem of the shifting Winnipeg 'gumbo' under the ice sheets. The ice was dug out 6 feet beneath the curling rink, filled with sand, and covered with styrofoam to prevent shifting of the ice. The AMCC is the home of the 1995 world champion Kerry Burtnyk rink

John Taylor Collegiate is a public high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It is part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division and is located at 470 Hamilton Avenue, in the Crestview area of Winnipeg. The school was founded in 1964 and commenced construction March 1964 with a proposal had a budget of $984,000. The architectural firm of Herman and St. Lawrence was hired and the school was named after a colonial settler of the area of the same name.

The Manitoba School for the Deaf is a provincial school in Winnipeg, Manitoba with both residential and day programs serving deaf and hard-of-hearing students. The school teaches both elementary and secondary students, using Bilingual-Bicultural method.Student population is approximately 40 students in the senior school and 60 in the elementary school. Deaf students from Canada often attend Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. for post secondary programs. Some Deaf students attend at University of Manitoba for post secondary programs

The Living Prairie Museum is a 30-acre (12 ha) tall grass prairie preserve located between Daisy Road and Harcourt Street, east of Ness Avenue in the St. James-Assiniboia suburb of Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was discovered in 1968 when two botanists from a local sub-committee of the International Biological Program surveyed Manitoba for native prairie plant communities. Of more than 60 sites that were researched, only four were found uncultivated. One of the largest undisturbed sites was discovered in a residential area of Winnipeg. Today a vestige of this original prairie community has been set aside as a City of Winnipeg Nature Park, called the Living Prairie Museum. The Living Prairie Museum is home to over 160 species of prairie grasses and wildflowers, as well as a great array of prairie wildlife. In Manitoba only 1/20 of 1% of original tall grass prairie remains. The Living Prairie Museum is one of the few preserves of this once vast ecosystem. This museum is defined by the historical interpretation of the tall grass prairie of the Winnipeg Region. The museum has an interpretative centre with displays on prairie history and ecology as well as an interactive art installation by Winnipeg artist Collin Zipp, titled lost_landscape.

The Historical Museum of St. James – Assiniboia is a museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The museum primarily consists of a two-story post-and-plank house built in 1856 and once owned by William Brown and Charlotte Omand. The home is furnished with pieces from the period between 1860 and 1890. The museum also features two other buildings: the Municipal Hall Building built in 1911 which contains exhibits from the St. James-Assiniboia area and surrounding parishes and an auxiliary building which features exhibits concerning blacksmithing, farming, and transportation.

Grace Hospital is a regional hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The 250-bed hospital is located in the Crestview neighbourhood of St. James-Assiniboia.The hospital was founded on Ross Avenue in 1890 by the Salvation Army, as a rescue home for women and children. It was incorporated in 1904 as The Salvation Army Grace General Hospital, and was the first Salvation Army hospital to be incorporated in Canada. The hospital was not truly a general hospital until 1927, when it was expanded from a maternity hospital.The hospital was located on Ross Avenue until 1906 when a new building was erected at Preston Avenue and Arlington Street. The Arlington street location would be expanded and upgraded many times. The Arlington Street location was eventually replaced by a building in the St James area, for which construction began in 1964. The St James location officially opened in 1967. The old Arlington Street building was demolished in about 2015 and the Old Grace Housing Cooperative was built where it had been. The hospital was run by the Salvation Army until 2008, when ownership was transferred to the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. Deanna Durbin, a Hollywood actress of the 1930s and 1940s, was born at Grace Hospital on 4 December 1921 as Edna Mae Durbin. She moved from Winnipeg to California, USA in 1923.

The Winnipeg Area Control Centre (ICAO: CZWG) is one of seven Area Control Centres in Canada operated by Nav Canada. Located at 777 Moray Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the centre controls all air traffic in Manitoba under 60,000 feet (including waters in Hudson Bay, as well as parts of Saskatchewan (from border with Alberta to Thompson) and Ontario east of Thunder Bay (including waters of Hudson Bay and James Bay). To the east is Toronto Area Control Centre and to the west is Edmonton Area Control Centre.

Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate is a dual-track and was recognized by the International Baccalaureate before it was phased out by AP, secondary school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. In addition to AP, the school offers a French Immersion program, technical and vocational programs, and multiple fine arts programs.

Westwood Collegiate is a high school in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The school teaches grades 9 to 12. Located at 360 Rouge Road, the school is part of the St. James-Assiniboia School Division. In addition to the Provincial Graduation Diploma, Westwood also offers IB Diplomas through the International Baccalaureate Program. The school's mission statement is "to empower all students and staff for the choices and challenges of the 21st century while working and learning in a safe and supportive environment."

Assiniboia Downs is a Canadian horse race track on 150 ha (360 acres) of land located in the Winnipeg suburb of St. James-Assiniboia. It is operated by the Manitoba Jockey Club and is the site of the annual Manitoba Derby. The track is located on the western edge of the city, near the intersection of the Perimeter Highway and Portage Avenue. It was opened on June 10, 1958, replacing the former Polo Park Racetrack, which was demolished to make way for Polo Park Shopping Centre. Thoroughbred racing season events run from May and end in September. Harness racing events operate during the winter months.

Robert Browning School is a French-immersion public elementary school in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Generally, students from this school passing to grade 6 attend École Ness (the only middle school in the St. James-Assiniboia School Division that has French immersion available) if wishing to continue with French immersion, otherwise they generally attend Lincoln Middle School which does not have French immersion.
