Silver Creek (Marion County, Oregon)

Howell Prairie is an area west of Silverton, Oregon, United States, between the Little Pudding River and the Pudding River. It was named for John Howell, a pioneer of 1843. Howell Prairie post office was established in 1876 and closed in 1881. In 1887 a post office named Howell was established at 44.99139°N 122.87806°W / 44.99139; -122.87806; it closed in 1902. The Oregonian Railway Company also had a station named Howell Prairie, which was changed to Switzerland in 1892.Settlements and locales on Howell Prairie include Geer, Durbin, Pratum, Central Howell, and North Howell.

Abiqua Creek ( AB-ih-kwə) is a tributary of the Pudding River in the U.S. state of Oregon. The creek originates near Lookout Mountain in the foothills of the Cascade Range in the northwestern part of the state. It flows northwest for about 29 miles (47 km) to its confluence with the Pudding, about 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Silverton, in the Willamette Valley. About 20 miles (32 km) north of Silverton, the Pudding River meets the Molalla River, which meets the Willamette River less than 1 mile (1.6 km) later near Canby. The creek is the main source of drinking water for Silverton, which operates a diversion dam upstream. The city, the Pudding River Watershed Council, and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife are working to improve fish passage on the creek and are studying the effectiveness of the dam's fish ladder. Abiqua Creek has historically supported the largest steelhead spawning populations in the Pudding River watershed.

North Howell is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon, United States. It is located on Howell Prairie. North Howell Elementary School, part of the Gervais School District, closed in 2002. Since the school closure, many area students attend Silverton schools as well as those in Gervais. Beginning in 2009, North Howell school has been leased to St. John Bosco High School, a private Catholic high school.

Silverton High School is a public high school located in the rural town of Silverton, Oregon, United States. It is a part of the Silver Falls School District and is the only high school in the district.

The Oregon Garden is an 80-acre (32 ha) botanical garden and tourist attraction in Silverton, Oregon, United States. Opened in 1999, it is home to over 20 gardens including the Rose Garden, Children's Garden and Silverton Market Garden. It is open 365 days a year and hosts both public and private events. The land is also home to the Gordon House, Oregon's only Frank Lloyd Wright home, and The Oregon Garden Resort.

The Gordon House is a residence designed by influential architect Frank Lloyd Wright, now located within the Oregon Garden, in Silverton, Oregon. It is an example of Wright's Usonian vision for America. It is one of the last of the Usonian series that Wright designed as affordable housing for American working class consumers, which—in 1939—were considered to have an annual income of $5,000–6,000 ($95,000 to $113,000 in 2021 dollars). The house is based on a design for a modern home commissioned by Life magazine in 1938.

Gallon House Bridge (also Gallonhouse Bridge) is a wooden covered bridge spanning Abiqua Creek in rural Marion County, Oregon, United States, built in 1916. The 84-foot-long (26 m) bridge derived its name during prohibition when it was a meeting place for bootleggers and moonshiners. The bridge was swept off its footings in the December 1964 flood, but was restored immediately after. Gallon House Bridge is about 2 miles (3 km) north-northwest of the city of Silverton west of Oregon Route 214 on Gallon House Road.

The Louis J. Adams House is a historic house located in Silverton in Marion County, Oregon. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. It is a prominent building in Silverton. It is a Craftsman architecture house that is deemed an "outstanding example" of the style. It is one of three houses in Silverton listed in the same day.

Pratum is an unincorporated community in Marion County, Oregon, United States. It is located northeast of Salem on Howell Prairie near the Pudding River. Pratum is Latin for "meadow". The community was settled in the late 19th century by a group of Mennonites, many of them of Swiss extraction. A branch of the narrow-gauge Oregonian Railway was built through the area in about 1880, and the station there was called "East Side Junction". The railway was eventually converted to standard gauge, and is still in use today by the Willamette Valley Railway. In 1895, the station was renamed "Enger" by a Mr. Larson, who opened the first store there. "Enger" was confused with Eugene, however, and the name of the station changed to "Pratum" in 1898. Pratum post office was established in 1887, and was originally called "Switzerland", then "Enger" and finally "Pratum" in 1898, matching the railroad station. The post office ran until 1964. Pratum Elementary School, was built in 1928 and is part of the Silver Falls School District, and is still operating.The community is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The June D Drake House is a historic house located in Silverton, Marion County, Oregon. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 12, 2011. It was the Silverton home of June D Drake (1880-1969; Silverton Chamber of Commerce secretary, Knights of Pythias member, farmer, commercial photographer, and owner of Drake Brothers Studio in Silverton) and his wife Eleanor Mercedes Schoenfeld Drake (1880-1968). He was a prime mover in the establishment of Silver Falls State Park. Their house was deemed historically significant for listing on the National Register partly for its association with him and partly for it serving as a fine local example of "Free-Classic Queen Anne cottage" architecture. It was the first house in Silverton to be electrified in 1904. It is one of three houses in Silverton listed on the same day.

Silverton is a city in Marion County, Oregon, United States. The city is situated along the 45th parallel about 12 miles (19 km) northeast of Salem, in the eastern margins of the broad alluvial plain of the Willamette Valley. The city is named after Silver Creek, which flows through the town from Silver Falls into the Pudding River, and thence into the Willamette River. The community of Milford was founded in 1846 with a sawmill, store and several other buildings two miles upstream from the present location of Silverton. In about 1853 a second sawmill was built on Silver Creek near where the Silverton city hall now stands. In 1854 the town of Silverton was platted and registered with Marion County. Human habitation of the Silverton area extends back approximately 6,000 years before the present. In historical times, the region was dominated by the Kalapuya and Molala peoples, whose seasonal burns of the area made it plow-ready and attractive to early 19th century Euro-American settlers. Farming was Silverton's first major industry, and has been a dominant land-use activity in and around Silverton since the mid-19th century. Silverton is part of the Salem Metropolitan Statistical Area, and the population core of the Silver Falls School District. The population was 10,484 at the time of the 2020 census.
