Michigan meridian

Meridian-Baseline State Park is a historic preservation area covering 108 acres (44 ha) in Ingham County and Jackson County, Michigan, containing the intersection of the Michigan meridian and the baseline used for the Michigan Survey. The state park has two monuments that show where the two mismatched baselines meet the principal meridian at the North Initial Point and South Initial Point.

The Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center (RGC) is a state prison for men located in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan, owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections.RGC houses a maximum of 1382 inmates at a mix of security levels, for the assessment, screening, and classification of all male state prisoners. RGC is adjacent to portions of the former Michigan State Prison, described as the largest walled prison in the world as late as 1981, when it was rocked by extensive, damaging riots. The prison was divided in 1988 into smaller institutions. As of 2016, Parnell and three other local components remain open as prisons: Parnall Correctional Facility, a minimum-security prison the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, an educational facility the Cooper Street Correctional Facility, a discharge and processing facilityRGC is named after Charles Egeler, warden of the former Michigan State Prison (at the time called the State Prison of Southern Michigan), on the same site. Egeler lived from May 17, 1928, until March 6, 1977. He was hired by the Michigan Department of Corrections in 1953 and became the warden of the State Prison of Southern Michigan in 1972, the position he held until his death.

It primarily treats inmates whose medical needs cannot be treated at other Michigan Department of Corrections facilities.

The Cooper Street Correctional Facility is a minimum-security state prison for men located in Jackson, Jackson County, Michigan, owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections.The facility was created from the former grounds of the Michigan Parole Camp, which was across the street from the former Michigan State Prison. The prison opened in 1997 and holds 814 inmates at a minimum security level, as the common point for processing of all male state prisoners about to be discharged, paroled, or transferred.

The Michigan Reformatory was a state prison for men located in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan, owned and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections. The facility has 352 beds at Level II security and 797 beds at Level IV security. The Reformatory was first opened in 1877 and housed "high-risk offenders". It closed in 2000 with the opening of the nearby Bellamy Creek Correctional Facility, then was reopened in 2007. A Michigan House Appropriation Subcommittee recommended its closure again in 2012. The Michigan Reformatory closed in November 2022 as inmate numbers continue to decline. Inmates were spread around the area and relocated.
