Highland Hospital is a public hospital in Alameda County, Oakland, California. It is operated by the Alameda Health System. It is the primary trauma center and a county hospital in Alameda County. It has been an adult Level I trauma center since August 3, 2017 and an adult Level II trauma center since 1985 and operates the most trafficked emergency department in the county. Highland Hospital is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and is also home to the UCSF East Bay Surgery Program. Their medical residency programs are among the most competitive and highly sought after in the nation. In October 2020, the staff at Highland went on strike to improve safety for patients. The management had been subcontracting jobs to the private sector in order to remove benefits. Wait times in emergency room had been six to eight hours. The strike succeeded in stimulating Alameda County to replace the executive board, and the executive board began replacing the profit-oriented management with managers that had a greater appreciation for patient care.

Alameda Health System (AHS), formerly Alameda County Medical Center (ACMC), is an integrated public health care system organized as a public hospital authority.Formerly operated by Alameda County, California, it now has an independent board of trustees appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors. It operates five hospitals (Alameda Hospital, Fairmont Hospital, Highland Hospital, John George Psychiatric Hospital, and San Leandro Hospital), and four primary care medical clinics (called ambulatory Wellness Centers) within the county. In March 2013, ACMC officially changed its name to Alameda Health System.

Lynn is a former settlement in Alameda County, California. It was located northeast of Brooklyn. In 1870, Lynn and Brooklyn incorporated as Brooklyn In 1872, voters approved the annexation by Oakland. Lynn hosted a large shoe and boot factory, the "Lynn Boot and Shoe Manufacturing Company" which incorporated in 1869 and was named after Lynn, Massachusetts which also had a large footwear industry.

Altenheim are historical buildings in Oakland, California. The Altenheim buildings were started in 1908. The buildings were listed to the National Register of Historic Places on January 10, 2007. The Altenheim is complex of buildings and gardens. There are three main buildings: The Altenheim buildings. the older part is from 1908 with a 1914 addition. The Excelsior building built in 1926, and the Boiler House built in 1914. The architects for the buildings were Oscar Haupt and Robert Frost. Altenheim was built in the Classical Revival and Colonial Revival architecture. The site is currently the Altenheim senior citizen residence at 1720 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland. The Altenheim, (German for Elder’s Home or old people’s home), was founded by German speaking immigrants in the 1890s. The buildings have been modernized on the interior and won the Partners in Preservation Award from the Oakland Heritage Alliance in 2007. The original 1893 buildings, built by the Altenheim Society, were replace with the current buildings after a fire.

Glenview is a neighborhood in Oakland, California developed in the early decades of the 20th century, mostly with mid-sized 2 and 3-bedroom craftsman bungalows. The neighborhood lies in the Oakland foothills, bordering Dimond Park on the eastern side of the district, and Park Boulevard on the northwestern side. The upper portion of the neighborhood sits on the west side of Park Boulevard and is bordered by the Trestle Glen neighborhood as well as the City of Piedmont. Park Boulevard, as the neighborhood spine, also serves as the local shopping node, with a number of convenience shops and several restaurants stretching a few blocks. To the south, the neighborhood is delimited by MacArthur Blvd and the I-580 freeway. The compact street grid along with a good number of amenities in the vicinity (a park, grocery stores, a library, and a number of restaurants) makes the neighborhood highly walkable, with the site walkscore.com rating it "Very Walkable: Most errands can be accomplished on foot.". Per VisitOakland, "Glenview feels more like a very quiet Rockridge with a couple of good restaurants and well-manicured gardens. For trips further afield, AC Transit offers local and transbay bus service mainly from Park Boulevard and MacArthur Boulevard. The neighborhood school, Glenview Elementary School, built 1927, was found to be seismically inferior by the State Architect and was demolished in 2017, except for the historic art deco facade. It is currently being rebuilt and is expected to open following the 2019 winter break. Since the academic year 2016/2017, the school has been operating in the Santa Fe neighborhood, at the Santa Fe campus.

Architect Augustus Laver who also designed the James C. Flood Mansion that is now home to the Pacific Union Club was its architect.It is at 1218 East 21st Street. In 2016 it sold to an investor for $1.95 million. It was used as a home for girls with syphilis. It has been used for film and caralogue shoots. It is in the Clinton neighborhood. It is being used as a co-living space and includes gardens.

Oakland Charter High School is a charter school in Oakland, California serving high school students. It was established in 2007. The school mascot is the matador. It is part of the Amethod Public Schools system and the Oakland Unified School District. In 2010–2011 the school had 121 students. The school has since had, for the 2019–2020 school year, 461 students. The California Department of Education recognized the school as a Title I Academic Achievement Award School. Students scored a 961 on the Academic Performance Index in 2010 and 938 in 2011, results that exceeded those of other Oakland High Schools except American Indian Public High School and ranking among the top high schools in California.The Oakland Charter High School campus has moved from their downtown location to a new one where the Patten University campus is located for the 2017–18 school year.

Patten University is an online college in Oakland, California. It was founded in 1944 by Bebe Patten as a bible college. It went through several stages in its history, variously under the names Oakland Bible Institute, Patten Bible Institute, Patten College, then Patten University. It was long affiliated with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, with candidacy for regional accreditation granted in 1973 and full accreditation circa 1978 to 1980. On February 28, 2020, Patten voluntarily withdrew from accreditation with WASC. In that year it became affiliated with Christian Evangelical Churches of America.

The Patten Academy of Christian Education (PACE) is a private K-12 Christian school located at 2430 Coolidge Ave. in Oakland, California. It is governed by the Christian Evangelical Churches of America (CECA). PACE was founded in 1944 by Dr. Bebe Patten. In the early 1950s grades seven and eight were added. In 1960, PACE expanded to kindergarten through sixth grade. In 1974, PACE applied to the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for accreditation, and in 1975, PACE was granted full accreditation for grades K-12. In 1977, continuing to improve its educational services, PACE joined the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). In 1989, PACE began its interscholastic sports program and competes in boys soccer, girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, boys baseball and girls softball as a member of the Bay Area Christian Athletic League. The PACE Bulldogs have produced numerous All-BACAL League players and several Oakland Tribune Athlete of the Week honorees.
