Carbondale (formerly, Buckeye) is a former settlement in Amador County, California. It was located 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Ione on the Southern Pacific Railroad, at an elevation of 223 feet (68 m). The place's early economy was related to coal mining and shipment. Large deposits of potter's clay were also mined in the area, along with aluminum and sand at one time. A post office operated at Carbondale from 1922 to 1955.Nothing remains of Carbondale today.

Sutter Creek is a stream in the U.S. state of California. The 32-mile (51 km) long stream is a tributary to Dry Creek.Sutter Creek was named after John Sutter, a prospector who arrived to the area in 1848, and who was a central figure to the California Gold Rush.

Forest Home is a former settlement in Amador County, California. It was located 6.25 miles (10.1 km) west of Plymouth, at an elevation of 581 feet (177 m). It still appeared on USGS maps as of 1944.Forest Home began as a gold mining center, north of Ione. Both placer and hydraulic mining was conducted. After the gold petered out, copper mining began.A post office operated at Forest Home from 1862 to 1905, moving once in 1886.

Rancho Arroyo Seco was a 48,857-acre (197.72 km2) Mexican land grant in the northern San Joaquin Valley, primarily within present-day Amador County, California. It was given in 1840 by Governor Juan B. Alvarado to Teodocio Yorba. The name means "dry creek". The grant, east of Sacramento, encompassed the historic mining community and present day town of Ione.

Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) is a California State Prison for men. It was opened in June 1987, and covers 866 acres (350 ha) located in Ione, California. The prison has a staff of 1,242 and an annual operating budget of $157 million.As of July 31, 2022, MCSP was incarcerating people at 115.2% of its design capacity, with 3,785 occupants.

Scully Ranch, on Marlette Street (Five Mile Drive) in Ione, California, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The listing included five contributing buildings.Architecture includes some elements of Classical Revival design.The main building of the ranch is an L-shaped one with a medium hipped roof, four chimneys, and boxed cornices. It is about 40 by 49 feet (12 m × 15 m) in plan. There are open verandas; prior to c.1910 there was a roof over the east side veranda. It was built during 1852 to 1858.

The Five Mile Drive-Sutter Creek Bridge, in Amador County, California near Ione, California, is a Pony Pratt half-truss bridge built in 1910. It was listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The United States National Register nomination describes it as a:steel, pin-connected, pony Pratt half-hip truss bridge on concrete wall abutments with flared wing walls. It crosses Sutter Creek in a wooded, rural setting. At a length of 115 feet (five panels at 23 feet each), it is very long for a pony truss, which is generally used for light vehicular traffic on short spans. In profile, the truss is a typical Pratt half-hip, but it is somewhat unusual in that the floor beams are extended five feet outside of the plane of the truss chords, and an additional vertical brace attaches to the end of the floor beams. This was probably done to provide extra support to compensate for the length of the truss. Another unusual feature is that the end posts terminate at a higher level than the interior verticals, giving the roadway a "sway-backed" configuration. The truss width (outside measurement) is 17 feet 4 inches and the roadway width is 12 feet 2 inches, with no wheel guards. It is located at the intersection of Old Stockton Rd. and Five Mile Dr., over Sutter Creek, west of Ione, Amador County, California.

Michigan Bar was a former mining camp near a sandbar in the Cosumnes River in Sacramento County, California which was founded by two gold miners from Michigan. The town site expanded out of the mining camp and by the 1850s contained a population of around 1500. By 1899, it had its own post office. Later hydraulic mining destroyed the original settlement, when the name came to designate a mining district. California Historical Landmark #468 marks part of the town as well as the mining district.

The Preston School of Industry, also known as Preston Castle, was a reform school located in Ione, California, in Amador County. It was proposed by, and ultimately named after, state senator Edward Myers Preston. The cornerstone was laid in December 1890, and the institution was opened in June 1894 when seven wards (minors under the guardianship of the state, but not necessarily juvenile offenders) were transferred there from San Quentin State Prison. It is considered one of the oldest and best-known reform schools in the United States. The original building, known colloquially as "Preston Castle" (or simply "The Castle"), is the most significant example of Romanesque Revival architecture in the Mother Lode. This building was vacated in 1960, shortly after new buildings had been constructed to replace it, and has since been named a California Historical Landmark (#867), and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NPS-75000422).In 1999, the institution's official name, applied to the newer 1960 buildings, was changed to the "Preston Youth Correctional Facility". In 2010, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced that the facility was to close, and a closing ceremony was held on June 2, 2011.

D. Stewart Company Store was the first building in Ione, California, United States. It was a general store. It opened in 1856. It's listed as a California Historical Landmark.

Ione ( eye-OWN) is a city in Amador County, California. As of the 2020 census the population is 5,141, which is a 35.1% decrease from the 2010 census. Once known as "Bed-Bug" and "Freeze Out," Ione was an important supply center on the main road to the Mother Lode and Southern Mines during the California Gold Rush.

The Community Methodist Church of Ione, is a United Methodist church in Ione, California, United States. The church is registered as a California Historical Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
