Different Fur Studios (formerly Different Fur Trading Company) is a recording studio located in the Mission District area of San Francisco, California, at 3470 19th Street. Since 1968, Different Fur has recorded music from a wide range of artists, including major Grammy and Oscar-winning musicians as well as many important independent musicians.

The Lexington Club, often referred to as The Lex, was a dive bar, primarily catered towards queer women, in the Mission District in the American city of San Francisco, California. It was recognized as one of the central landmarks for LGBTQ culture, especially for lesbians and queer women, in San Francisco. The club was founded in 1997 and closed at the end of April 2015.

On June 22, 1977, Robert Hillsborough, a 33-year-old American gay man was murdered in San Francisco by John Cordova, a 19-year-old from Daly City. Cordova and three other young men followed Hillsborough to his apartment in the Mission and stabbed him fifteen times in the face and chest. Cordova was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Though Hillsborough was the nineteenth gay man to be murdered in the United States in 1977, it was his death which galvanized political mobilization amongst the LGBT community to fight for human rights. His family unsuccessfully sued anti-gay activist Anita Bryant for inciting violence against gay people.

826 Valencia is a non-profit organization in the Mission District of San Francisco, California, United States, dedicated to helping children and young adults develop writing skills and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. It was the basis for the 826 National organization, which has centers on the United States with the same goal.

Congregation B'nai David was an Orthodox synagogue from 1908 until 1978 in the Mission District of San Francisco, California, U.S.. This building contained the first northern Californian mikveh (Jewish ritual bath), and Orthodox Jews would travel from far to visit it. Many of the parishioners were immigrants from Poland, Russia, and Romania.Attendance declined in the 1930s, and regular services in ended in the 1960s. It closed in 1978. The mikveh was moved to Menorah Square, a Jewish retirement home in Pacific Heights. After the closure in 1980, artist Freda Koblick purchased the building as her art studio and residence. It was later converted into multiple residences. The building has been listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since October 5, 1980.

One of the oldest neighborhoods in San Francisco, the Mission District's name is derived from Mission San Francisco de Asís, built in 1776 by the Spanish. Lazy Bear is a Michelin starred restaurant in San Francisco, in the U.S. state of California.The idea for Lazy Bear came to chef David Barzelay after a dinner party he threw was so successful, people kept talking about his food. Until 2015, he did pop up, underground events before opening a brick and mortar location in the Mission District. The restaurant has two floors. The top floor is for drinks, apéritifs and appetizers. Then they head downstairs for the rest of the meal.

The Women's Building is a women-led non-profit arts and education community center located in San Francisco, California, which advocates self-determination, gender equality and social justice. The four-story building rents to multiple tenants and serves over 20,000 women a year.The building has served as an event and meeting space since 1979, when it was purchased by the San Francisco Women's Center. The building is shielded from rising real estate costs in the Mission district because that group has owned the building since 1995.
