York Historic District (York, South Carolina)

Hart House is a historic home located at York, York County, South Carolina. It was built about 1855, and is a frame Greek Revival style raised cottage on a brick foundation. It features Palladian windows in the gable ends and a double portico with simple square columns. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.

York is a city in and county seat of York County, South Carolina, United States. The population was approximately 6,985 at the 2000 census and up to 7,736 at the 2010 census. York is located approximately 27 miles (43 km) southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina and 13 miles (21 km) west of Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Wilson House, also known as Old Jail and Yorkville Jail, is a historic home located in York, York County, South Carolina. It is attributed to Robert Mills and was built in 1828. It is a three-story, brick building originally designed as a local jail. It features brick arches and a semi-circular fanlight. It was converted into a residence in 1853, and then used as a jail during the Reconstruction Era when Federal troops imprisoned Ku Klux Klan members. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

York Comprehensive High School is the sole high school in York County School District 1. Dr. John Tharpe serves as principal. The school is located in York, South Carolina. Due to the growth and aging of the original building, a new high school was built. The new high school is on Alexander Love Highway. The new campus will accommodate grades 9–12. Ninth graders had been housed at York Junior High for several years because the old York Comprehensive could not handle a large number of students. The new campus is designed to hold 1,800 students.

The York County Courthouse, built in 1914, is an historic courthouse located at West Liberty and South Congress streets in the city of York in York County, South Carolina. It was designed in the Classical Revival style by Darlington native William Augustus Edwards who designed eight other South Carolina courthouses as well as academic buildings at 12 institutions in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. On October 30, 1981, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Witherspoon-Hunter House is a historic home located at York, York County, South Carolina. It was built about 1825, and consists of a two-story, front section covered by a gable roof, with a one-story L-shaped rear annex. The house is of frame construction and rests upon a raised brick basement. It features a double-tiered front portico. Also on the property is a small brick building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

York County is a county on the north central border in the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, the population was 282,090, making it the seventh most populous county in the state. Its county seat is the city of York, and its largest community is Rock Hill. The county is served by one Interstate Highway, Interstate 77. York County is part of the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia, NC-SC Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Filbert is an unincorporated community in York County, South Carolina, United States, which was formerly incorporated. Filbert was disincorporated and annexed, mostly between York and Clover. Road signs still exist to proclaim this rural village. Filbert's only major roadway is U.S. Highway 321.

James Ross Wildlife Reservation is a South Carolina Wildlife Management Area located near York and Sharon managed by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Holy Islamville is an unincorporated community in York County, South Carolina, United States. Founded by Mubarak Ali Gilani in 1983, it is a branch of Muslims of America.

Tirzah is an unincorporated community in York County, South Carolina, United States. The elevation of Tirzah is 705 ft. The community is halfway between the city of York and Rock Hill.

Bethesda Presbyterian Church is a church in McConnells, South Carolina that was built in 1820. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.According to the South Carolina Department of Archives and History, "One of the oldest churches in the South Carolina Upcountry, Bethesda Presbyterian Church is also one of the four original Presbyterian churches in the state’s old York District. A mission (church) is believed to have existed as early as 1760 and Bethesda was formally organized about 1769 or 1770. From 1800 to 1863, the congregation held large camp meetings associated with the Second Great Awakening."
