Edenfield

The Irwell Valley in North West England extends from the Forest of Rossendale through the cities of Salford and Manchester. The River Irwell runs through the valley, along with the River Croal.

Strongstry is a small hamlet in Rossendale, Lancashire, England. The hamlet is only accessible by an unadopted road running through a factory. It is accessible on several walking routes. The East Lancashire Railway runs through Strongstry, but there is no station there. Much of the land to the west of the village is in the care of the National Trust and consists of hillside pasture and woodland leading up to Holcombe Moor and Peel Tower.

Stubbins is an industrial village in the southern part of the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire, England. It is half a mile north of Ramsbottom town centre on the A676 between Bolton and Edenfield. For local government purposes, it receives services from Rossendale Borough Council and Lancashire County Council. Nearby are the hamlets of Chatterton and Strongstry. It is part of the Rossendale and Darwen constituency, with Jake Berry having been the Member of Parliament since 2010.

Stubbins railway station served the village of Stubbins, Rossendale, Lancashire, England. Opened by the East Lancashire Railway in 1847 on their line from Bury Bolton Street into Rossendale, it was situated next to the junction of the lines toward Accrington and to Rawtenstall and Bacup, but only had platforms on the latter route. It closed to passengers in 1972, when the Bury to Rawtenstall service was withdrawn by British Rail, although the line through it remained open for coal traffic until December 1980. The ELR has since reopened the line as a tourist railway, but the station here has not been reinstated.

Parkland at Chatterton was given to the people of the district of Ramsbottom as a peace memorial by the Porritt family.

Irwell Vale is a village within the Rossendale borough of Lancashire, in North West England. which lies at the confluence of the River Ogden and River Irwell. The village is bounded to the south by Edenfield, Ramsbottom and Stubbins; to the west by Holcombe and to the north Haslingden and Rawtenstall. There is a railway station at Irwell Vale on the East Lancashire Railway that is open to the public on weekends, public holidays and services stop Wednesday, Thursday & Friday during spring and summer. This preserved heritage railway runs diesel and steam services through the year with main stopping points at Rawtenstall, Ramsbottom, Bury and Heywood. Irwell Vale railway station is between Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall.

Ramsbottom is a market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. The population at the 2011 census was 17,872.Historically in Lancashire, it is on the River Irwell in the West Pennine Moors, 3.9 miles (6.3 km) northwest of Bury, and 12 miles (19 km) of Manchester. Its name is believed to derive from Old English ramm and botm, meaning 'valley of the ram'. Its Victorian architecture, Pennine landscape and industrial heritage, including the East Lancashire Railway, contribute to heritage tourism in the town.

The River Ogden is a minor river in Lancashire, England. It is approximately 4.4 miles (7.1 km) long and has a catchment area of 9.77 square miles (25.298 km2).Beginning on the moors of Haslingden Grane as Ogden Brook, it heads east, feeding Ogden and Calf Hey Reservoirs. It then passes through the Holden Wood Reservoir and collects Swinnel Brook in an area historically known as the Trippet of Ogden, becoming the River Ogden. Turning to the south, it passes through the Helmshore part of Haslingden where it is met by Musbury Brook and then Alden Brook, overlooked by Musbury Tor. Heading southeast it joins the River Irwell at Irwell Vale, between Rawtenstall and Ramsbottom near grid reference SD792202.

Shuttleworth is a hamlet at the northeastern extremity of the Metropolitan Borough of Bury, in Greater Manchester, England. It lies amongst the South Pennines, 4.3 miles (6.9 km) north of Bury and 0.9 miles (1.4 km) south of Edenfield; Scout Moor Wind Farm lies to the immediate east. Effectively a suburb of Ramsbottom, the M66 motorway divides Shuttleworth from the main core of that town. Historically a part of Lancashire, the name Shuttleworth derives from the Old English scyttels and worth meaning a gated enclosure. The first element refers to a bar. It was documented as Suttelsworth in 1227 and Shuttelesworthe in 1296.From the Middle Ages, Shuttleworth lay within the township of Walmersley (sometimes called Walmersley-cum-Shuttleworth) in the ancient parish of Bury, and hundred of Salford. Walmersley-cum-Shuttleworth was made a civil parish in 1866. From 1883 the Shuttleworth area was administered as part the local government district of Ramsbottom, with the parish boundary between Walmersley-cum-Shuttleworth and Ramsbottom being adjusted to match the local government district boundary in 1894.Shuttleworth is bounded to the south by Holcombe Brook and Summerseat; to the north by Edenfield, Irwell Vale; to the west by Holcombe and Ramsbottom and to the east by Stubbins, Turn Village and Shuttleworth-cum-Turn. In the 1990s, Manchester drag queen Foo Foo Lammar lived in Shuttleworth.
