Kettering City School District is a school district located in Kettering, Ohio.It was named a "Top 100" school district by Money magazine in 1995. It is the second largest district in Montgomery County and currently serves about 8,000 student and has enjoyed modest growth in enrollment since the early 1990s.

Belmont High School did not meet any of the 13 indicators for the 2016–2017 school year on the State of Ohio Dept. of Education Report Card, and therefore received an 'F' grade. In addition, the school received a 38.9% score with a grade of 'F' on the Performance Index section of the Report Card as well. The school opened on September 10, 1956 for students in 8th through 11th grades. The Belmont High School football team competes in the American Division of the Southwest Ohio Public League. All other athletic teams compete in the Dayton City League.

Oakwood High School(OHS) is a public secondary school in Oakwood, Montgomery County, Ohio. As of the 2023-2024 school year, there are around 700 students The school mascot is the Lumberjack, with male students being referred to as "Lumberjacks" or "Jacks" and female students usually being referred to as "Lumberjills" or "Jills" with a female "Lumberjill" mascot appearing at most female sporting events. Oakwood was named A National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education in 1990-91 and 2007. In the 21-22 school year, Oakwood was ranked second in the state on the Ohio Department of Education's High School Performance Index. Additionally, U.S. News in 2023 ranked Oakwood as the 905st best public high school in the nation.In 2024, Oakwood City Schools Superintendent Neil Gupta announced that Principal Paul Waller was being placed on administrative leave and Patrick Masters would be serving as the schools interim Principal.

The station is owned by Kettering City School District and is operated by the students at Kettering Fairmont High School. It was launched in May of 1975 by Fairmont West students Matthew Smith and Chuck Hamlin.

Oakwood is a city in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,572 at the 2020 census. A suburb of Dayton, Oakwood is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. It was incorporated in 1908. John Henry Patterson, industrialist and founder of the National Cash Register Corporation, is considered the "Father of Oakwood."Oakwood is completely land-locked by the surrounding municipalities of Dayton and Kettering. Its small, compact geographic area facilitates the response of its single, unified (consolidated) Department of Public Safety, in which all personnel are certified as police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical services (EMS) officers. Oakwood is one of only a few U.S. cities to employ the concept. Public safety officers work 24-hour shifts, performing the different functions within eight-hour blocks of each shift.

The Southern Ohio Lunatic Asylum is an historic structure at 2335 Wayne Ave. in Dayton, Ohio. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 15, 1979. The 300-acre (120 ha) complex was designed as a mental asylum in accordance with principles advocated by Philadelphia psychiatrist Thomas Story Kirkbride in the mid-19th century. It was renamed the Dayton State Hospital and later the Dayton Mental Health Center. The distinctive main building at the intersection of Wayne and Wilmington avenues is now a retirement center, the hospital farm is now Kettering's Miami Valley Research Park, and other hospital land is now the site of private homes and Hospice of Dayton.

Hawthorn Hill is the house that served as the post-1914 home of Orville, Milton and Katharine Wright. Located in Oakwood, Ohio, Wilbur and Orville Wright intended for it to be their joint home, but Wilbur died in 1912, before the home's 1914 completion. The brothers hired the prominent Dayton architectural firm of Schenck and Williams to realize their plans. Orville and his father Milton and sister Katharine occupied the home in 1914. Though the property now comprises three acres (1.2 ha), the mansion originally sat on 17 acres (69,000 m2). The Wrights named the property after the hawthorn trees found on the property. There are at least 150 hawthorn trees on the site. Orville Wright designed some of the mechanical features of the house such as the water storage tank used to collect and recycle rainwater, and the central vacuum system; these features reflect his creative genius. For 34 years, this house was the gathering place for the greats and near-greats in the history of American aviation. The home was owned by the NCR Corporation after Orville's death until August 18, 2006, when the company donated the historic home to the Wright Family Foundation in honor of Orville's 135th birthday and National Aviation Day. NCR used it as a guesthouse for corporate VIPs and for corporate functions. On occasion they opened the home to the general public. In September 2007, Dayton History, in cooperation with the Wright Family Foundation, began offering scheduled public tours of Hawthorn Hill. NCR extensively redecorated the mansion's interior after Orville's death. Only Orville's study approximates its pre-1948 appearance. However, Edward A. Deeds, then-chairman of the National Cash Register Company, sent a photographer to the home immediately following Orville's death to visually record the interior of the house at that time. The U.S. Secretary of the Interior designated Hawthorn Hill a National Historic Landmark in 1991 and added it to the U.S. World Heritage Tentative List in January 2008 as a part of the Dayton Aviation Sites listing. It is a component of the National Aviation Heritage Area.

The Dayton Project was a research and development project to produce polonium during World War II, as part of the larger Manhattan Project to build the first atomic bombs. Work took place at several sites in and around Dayton, Ohio. Those working on the project were ultimately responsible for creating the polonium-based modulated neutron initiators which were used to begin the chain reactions in the atomic bombs. The Dayton Project began in 1943 when Monsanto's Charles Allen Thomas was recruited by the Manhattan Project to coordinate the plutonium purification and production work being carried out at various sites. Scientists at the Los Alamos Laboratory calculated that a plutonium bomb would require a neutron initiator. The best-known neutron sources used radioactive polonium and beryllium, so Thomas undertook to produce polonium at Monsanto's laboratories in Dayton. While most Manhattan Project activity took place at remote locations, the Dayton Project was located in a populated, urban area. It ran from 1943 to 1949, when the Mound Laboratories were completed in nearby Miamisburg, Ohio, and the work moved there. The Dayton Project developed techniques for extracting polonium from the lead dioxide ore in which it occurs naturally, and from bismuth targets that had been bombarded by neutrons in a nuclear reactor. Ultimately, polonium-based neutron initiators were used in both the gun-type Little Boy and the implosion-type Fat Man used in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki respectively. The fact that polonium was used as an initiator was classified until the 1960s, but George Koval, a technician with the Manhattan Project's Special Engineer Detachment, penetrated the Dayton Project as a spy for the Soviet Union.

The University of Dayton Ghetto, officially the Student Neighborhood, located in Dayton, Ohio, is home to upperclassmen at the University of Dayton (UD). Housing in "the Ghetto" is leased in an arrangement that resembles both traditional university housing and a landlord/tenant relationship. Tracing its history back to the 1870s, the neighborhood now includes more than 200 university-owned houses as well as landlord-owned houses, high-density housing and gathering spaces. With the inclusion of Holy Angels and The Darkside, or officially "the North Student Neighborhood", two smaller neighborhoods the university owns property in, there are more than 400 houses currently used as student residential space. Because of the area's age, the university has been engaged in a program to renovate and update the houses, and several additional changes to the neighborhood are expected in the coming years as part of the university's Master Plan.
