Afon Morlais

On 26 August 2020 a freight train carrying diesel fuel and gas oil in tank wagons derailed at Morlais Junction, Llangennech, Carmarthenshire, Wales. Some of the derailed wagons caught fire, leading to an evacuation of people living nearby. There was widespread contamination from the spilled fuel. The clean-up operation was described by Natural Resources Wales as the most challenging since the Sea Empress oil spill in 1996. The accident was caused by defective brakes on a wagon causing an axle to seize, which in turn caused deformation of the track under the train as it travelled over a set of points. The Heart of Wales Line was closed for seven months as a result of the derailment.

Ysgol Llangennech (officially Ysgol Gymraeg Llangennech, English: Llangennech School) is a Welsh primary school located in Llangennech, Carmarthenshire. It was previously two schools, Ysgol Babanod Llangennech and Ysgol Iau Llangennech (in English, Llangennech Infant and Junior school respectively). These amalgamated in 2017 when the school became Welsh-only. The school came under the spotlight when it stopped offering bilingual education in 2017. It has a successful choir which has competed in national competitions.

Llangennech railway station is a railway station in the village of Llangennech. It lies on the Heart of Wales line with services operated by Transport for Wales running to and from Swansea and Shrewsbury. Llangennech station is located at street level about half a mile away from the centre of the village. It is one of two stations (neighbouring Bynea being the other) located on the double track portion of the route that is shared with the Swansea District Line.

Penyrheol is the name of an electoral ward and a suburb in the City and County of Swansea, Wales, UK. The electoral ward consists of some or all of the following areas: Penyrheol, Grovesend and Waun Gron, in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. It is bordered by the Loughor estuary to the north west; and the wards of Pontarddulais to the north; Llangyfelach to the east; and Upper Loughor, Kingsbridge, Gorseinon and Penllergaer to the south. Hendy (Welsh: Yr Hendy) is a village in the community of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales. It is situated at the Carmarthenshire and the City and County of Swansea border. It lies on the Afon Gwili just across the River Loughor from Pontarddulais. Together with Fforest to the north, it forms part of a continuous built-up area centred on Pontarddulais. Most of the village sits between the M4 Motorway junction 48 and the A48 road (Fforest Road) north of the motorway.

Penyrheol (Welsh: Pen-yr-heol) is a suburban district of Swansea, Wales falling within the Penyrheol ward. Penyrheol is located about 7 miles (11 km) north west of Swansea city centre in northwest Gorseinon. Penyrheol has two schools: a primary school and Penyrheol Comprehensive School. The latter was destroyed by arsonists in the early hours of Saturday 18 March 2006 causing 10 million pounds worth of damage. This caused much disruption to the pupils and families of the communities of Penyrheol, Gorseinon and Loughor. The destroyed teaching block was rebuilt at a cost of £9.9m and lessons began in the new block on 4 September 2009.Penyrheol Leisure centre is the local sports facility which incorporates a swimming pool, gymnasium and theatre. The swimming pool is the home of Penyrheol Swimming Club, the only swimming club in Swansea to have achieved the Dragon Mark Award.Penyrheol is an electoral ward of the City and County of Swansea Council.

Llangennech ([ɬæn'ɡenƏx]()) is a village and community in the area of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, Wales, which covers an area of 1,222 hectares (4.72 sq mi).It is governed by Llangennech Community Council and Carmarthenshire County Council. Llangennech is also the name of the county electoral ward coterminous with the village. It falls in the Llanelli parliamentary and Senedd constituency. It lies in the Mid & West Wales region for regional Senedd members. Llangennech was a coal mining community, with several local collieries mining steam coal. There is also a large Labour tradition in the village originating with the mine workers. There was a large Royal Navy depot in the village, which was closed in 2007 in Ministry of Defence restructuring. Llangennech has a strong rugby union team, Llangennech RFC, that feeds many players into Llanelli RFC and then on to the Llanelli Scarlets regional rugby union team. The town is served by Llangennech railway station on the Heart of Wales Line with trains to Swansea to the south and Shrewsbury to the north. The community is bordered by the communities of Llanelli Rural, Llannon, and Llanedi, all in Carmarthenshire; and by Grovesend and Waungron and Gorseinon in the City and County of Swansea.

Pontarddulais is a name of an electoral ward and parish of the City and County of Swansea, south Wales. The parish of Pontarddulais has its own elected town council. The electoral ward covers the town of Pontarddulais and its surrounding rural areas, in the parliamentary constituency of Gower. The electoral ward is bounded by Mawr to the east; Llangyfelach to the south east; and Penyrheol to the south west. For the 2012 local council elections, the turnout for Pontarddulais was 39.01%. Grovesend (Welsh: Pengelli; ) is a village in the community of Grovesend and Waungron (Welsh: Pengelli a Waungron), City and County of Swansea in Wales. The community has a population of 1,131.Over the last 100 years Grovesend has gone through the transition of being a big mining community to a quiet semi rural village. It is mainly a residential community, with the major amenity being the welfare club. Locals often travel to nearby areas such as Gorseinon or Pontarddulais for shopping. Grovesend also has a primary school, with about 100 pupils in, and a nursing home. Grovesend has one football team Pengelli FC. Despite being one of the last villages in the West part of Swansea, like many teams of the west they compete in the 'Camarthernshire league.

Pontarddulais railway station serves the town of Pontarddulais and village of Hendy in Swansea, Wales. The station is located at street level not far from the town centre and the Loughor estuary. All trains serving the station are operated by Transport for Wales.

It is 10 miles (16 km) northwest of the city centre. The Pontarddulais ward is part of the City and County of Swansea. Pontarddulais adjoins the village of Hendy in Carmarthenshire. The built-up population was 9,073.

Gorseinon Hospital (Welsh: Ysbyty Gorseinon) is a rehabilitation hospital in Gorseinon, Wales. It is managed by Swansea Bay University Health Board.
