Havelock Town

Havelock Park (Sinhala: හැව්ලොක් පාර්ක්) is a multi-purpose stadium in Havelock Town, Colombo Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest grounds in the country. The sporting complex is located in Havelock Town and is bordered by Havelock Road, Park Road and Isipathana Mawatha.

Havelock City is a large mixed-use real-estate project in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Residential component of the project consists of 8 residential towers and the Commercial component of the project consists of a 46-storey office tower and a Shopping Mall built to international standards. It is popular for its clubhouse, 7-acre garden, and the overall size of the project. The first 4 residential towers, namely Park Tower and Elibank Tower (of construction Phase-1), and Layards Tower and Davidson Tower (of construction Phase-2), were completed as at early 2017 with 22 floors each, and is currently occupied by residents. Phase-3 is currently under construction, and will consist of the Stratford Tower and Melford Tower, with 28 floors each. Piling for Phase-4 was done with Phase-3 to expedite development. Both phases is estimated to cost over US$130 million.At a cost of US$ 166 million, the 46-storey commercial skyscraper will have 600,000 sq ft (56,000 m2) of office space and 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2) for the shopping mall. The ground-breaking ceremony for the commercial component was ceremonially conducted on 29 December 2016 with the auspices of S P Tao, the chairman of Overseas Realty, along with other dignitaries such as ministers Mangala Samaraweera and Champika Ranawaka.

Hejaaz International School in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka provides English Medium education (Cambridge/Local) to boys and girls in separate campuses in an Islamic environment. The school was started in 1994. At its inception, there were only 3 teachers and 17 students. The school was first started at a small house in Mt. Lavina, with classes in rooms and halls. The school is home to over 1000 students and over 100 teachers, with 3 branches today. The boys' school is in Mt. Lavinia and the girls' schools are in Dehiwala. Students not only from Sri Lanka, but also from the Middle East, Maldives and other Asian countries attend this school. The school has many extracurricular activities like karate, basketball, netball (girls), Band, Scrabble, Model UN, debate, art, football (boys), cricket (boys), athletics (boys), qaseeda, and quiz.

St. Peter's College (Sinhala: සාන්ත පීතර විදුහල, Tamil: செயிண்ட் பீட்டர் கல்லூரி) is a Roman Catholic boys-only primary to secondary (inclusive) school in the Bambalapitiya zone of Colombo, Sri Lanka, founded in 1922. In 1919, just after the end of World War I, Fr. M. J. Le Goc, Rector of St Joseph's College, Colombo, wanted to start a college in the southern suburbs of Colombo and acquired a block of cinnamon land in Bambalapitiya. Construction began on 7 July 1921 under the supervision of J. R. J. Jayesuria, an alumnus of St. Joseph's College. In December 1921, Le Goc announced that St. Joseph's College South would open in January 1922. The buildings were designed by Le Goc and were built in six months. The quadrangle in front had an oval drive running around it. Le Goc also incorporated the concept of open-air classrooms. The inauguration took place on Wednesday 18 January 1922. 204 students were admitted on that day and by the end of the year the number had risen to 268. The first rector was Fr. D. J. Nicholas Perera. As of 2019 the rector is Rev. Fr. Rohitha Rodrigo, and there were 6,088 students.

Hindu College Colombo (Tamil: இந்துக் கல்லூரி, கொழும்பு) or abbreviated as HCC is a Tamil language National School situated at Bambalapitiya, in the suburb of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1951. This school was started with the name of "பிள்ளையார் பாடசாலை" (Pillayar Paadasaalai) by Justice C. Nagalingam Q.C. Hindu College Colombo is now considered as one of the most prominent Tamil national schools in the country due to its reputation in the way of providing education. Mr.Nagendra is the current principal of the school, who took charge as the position of principal on 29 May 2023.

Wellawatta is a neighbourhood of Colombo, Sri Lanka. It lies immediately south of Bambalapitiya and is classified as zone 6 within the Colombo Municipal region. The town begins at the old Dutch canal just before the Savoy Cinema and extends south to the same canal that reaches the sea just before the junction at Hospital Road where Dehiwela begins. It is bounded on the west by the waters of the Indian Ocean and extends to Pamankada where Havelock Road forks and meets the Sri Saranankara Road bridge, which stretches over the Dutch canal, extending towards Kohuwala-Hospital Road junction on Dutugemunu Street. The name Wellawatta means 'Sandy Garden' in Sinhalese and 'White Garden' in Tamil. During the colonial period, much of present day Wellawatta was made of coconut estates owned by European families, particularly that of Charlemont Jonathan Gauder. Many of the roads and place names bear the names of the Gauder family including Charlemont, Frederica, Collingwood, Alexandra and Frances. The landmark Savoy cinema was built by CV De Silva in the 1940s. In the 1980s, the area drew many Tamils fleeing the civil war from the north of the country. Today, Wellawatta is a built up commercial and residential area with a small amount of light industry. Posh new apartment complexes coexist with slums particularly along the canal areas.

Colts Cricket Club Ground is a cricket ground on Park Road in Havelock Town, Colombo, Sri Lanka, in the south-east corner of Havelock Park. It has been the home of Colts Cricket Club since 1971. The ground is a regular venue for first-class and List A cricket matches and has also hosted many women's cricket matches. It has also hosted some Youth Tests and ODIs. As of late December 2016 it had hosted 188 first-class matches.

Edward Henry Pedris Grounds (also known as Edward Henry Pedris Stadium or Pedris Grounds) is a multi-purpose stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Located in the northern portion of Havelock Park, it is currently used for football, rugby union and basketball matches. Named after the national hero, Captain Duenuge Edward Henry Pedris, it is managed by the Isipathana College.

Isipathana College(Sinhala: ඉසිපතන විද්‍යාලය) previously known as Greenlands College. Isipathana College is a national school in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was established in January 1952. Presently it provides primary and secondary education on a campus of 4.5 ha (11 acres) ranging from grades 1 to 13, with an enrollment of more than 5,000+ students. It provides education from Grades 1 to 13 in Sinhala, Tamil and English language. The students of the college are known as Pathanians whilst past pupils are known as Old Pathanians.

St. Lawrence's Church is the seat of the Wellawatte parish of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Colombo. It is located at Galle Road (near Pereira Lane), Wellawatte, Colombo 06. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence, the patron saint of Sri Lanka, Colombo and parish of Wellawatte.On 6 January 1938 the Archbishop of Colombo, Jean-Marie Masson inaugurated the new Parish of Wellawatte. The original St Lawrence’s Church was built at Villa Pleasant (which was renamed St Lawrence Road) and Rev. Robert Fernando was appointed as its first priest. Fernando realised that the Church was too small for the congregation and purchased a parcel of land at 375 Galle Road, Wellawatte. On 17 January 1954 the Archbishop of Colombo, Thomas Cooray laid the foundation stone for the new church. Construction took fourteen years to complete, with the church being consecrated on 6 March 1968 by Cardinal Cooray.

The 2008 Dehiwala train bombing was a bombing of a commuter train, running from Colombo to Panadura on May 26, 2008, in Dehiwala, Sri Lanka, a suburb of Colombo. The bombing killed 9 people and injured at least 67. The Sri Lankan military blames the LTTE for the attack. WSWS claims that it is possible that the attack was carried out by the LTTE in retaliation to a bomb blast targeting a van on May 23 in LTTE controlled area, which they (the LTTE) claimed to be carried out by the Sri Lankan military. June 4, 2008 a bomb exploded between the railway tracks hit by packed commuter train at 0710 local time between the Dehiwala and Wellawatte railway stations on the same rail line, injured at least 24 civilians. The Sri Lankan government launched a military offensive against the LTTE in 2006, which ultimately led to the group's defeat in 2009.

Isipathanaramaya Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Located in Havelock Town it was built in 1916 by Duenuge Disan Pedris, a wealthy merchant, in memory of his only son Henry Pedris who was executed by British officials for alleged incitement of racial riots in 1915, which were proven false. The temple was constructed on a 2 ha (4.9 acres) property that Pedris had purchased in 1905.The murals in the temple were painted by Maligawe Sarlis(1880-1955) in 1920-21. The murals have been described as "exuberant, theatrical recastings of the traditional subjects of Buddhist temple art, in a vivid realist style".In the late 1950s the Greenlands Road which located close to it was renamed Isipathana Mawatha and the Greenlands College that was located in close proximity was renamed Isipathana Maha Vidyalaya. In November 2016 a 12 m (39 ft) statue of Buddha, in a standing posture built at a cost of Rs. 4.5 million, was unveiled at the temple by President Maithripala Sirisena.
