The Rock, Rhosymedre

Rhosymedre () is a village within the community of Cefn, in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The Anglican church, which was consecrated in 1837, is dedicated to St John the Evangelist, and is part of the Diocese of St Asaph. Former vicars include John David Edwards (vicar from 1843 to 1885), whose most famous hymn tune composition is Rhosymedre, upon which Ralph Vaughan Williams later based an organ prelude.The quarry behind Rock Road was originally the source of stones for building the Llangollen Canal, and also the houses of the local mining community. Rhosymedre Halt railway station served the village from 1906 to 1959.

Rhosymedre Halt was a minor railway station on the Great Western Railway's London to Birkenhead main line, serving the mining village of Rhosymedre near Cefn Mawr in Wales. Although the station is gone, the railway remains open as part of the Shrewsbury to Chester Line. The station was situated in a deep cutting amidst a number of overbridges, but nothing now remains of the old platforms. Express trains did not call at Rhosymedre, and the halt would have been served only by West Midlands & Shrewsbury to Wrexham & Chester local trains. Some proposals for a "Wrexham South railway station" involve the use of the former Rhosymedre Halt railway station site or slightly south of it.

Plaskynaston Lane is a demolished football stadium in Cefn Mawr, Wrexham, Wales. It was the home stadium of Cefn Druids A.F.C. of the Cymru Alliance. The stadium held 2,000 spectators. The last game played at the ground was the Tony Collins Memorial Cup Final U12, between Llay FC and Marford & Gresford FC, refereed by Lewys Evans in memory of a former Cefn Druids A.F.C. player. Cefn Druids A.F.C. now play at the Rock, Rhosymedre. The site is now used as a Tesco superstore.

Acrefair railway station (Welsh pronunciation: [ˌakrɛˈvɑɪr] ak-REH-vire) was a former station on the Ruabon–Barmouth line in North East Wales. It closed to passengers on 18 January 1965 as part of the Beeching Axe.

Acrefair (Welsh: Acre-fair; [ˌakrɛˈvɑɪr] ) is a village in Wrexham County Borough, north-east Wales, in the community of Cefn. It was formerly part of the ancient parish of Ruabon, and is located between Wrexham and Llangollen. It is close to the villages of Trevor, Cefn Mawr, Ruabon and Plas Madoc. The name Acrefair originates from the Welsh word for acres—acrau, or acre in the local Welsh dialect—and Mair, the Welsh name for Mary. The English meaning of Acrefair is Mary's Acres. Parts of Acrefair have views across the River Dee and the Dee Valley. Acrefair has a chemist, kebab shop and two Chinese take-aways and once had a petrol station and newsagents / post office. It boasts many buildings built from "Ruabon Red brick", including several chapels which are now closed and converted.Edward Lloyd Rowland established an ironworks in Acrefair in 1817. Following his bankruptcy in 1825, the works were bought by the British Iron Company. The company was re-formed in 1843 as the New British Iron Company and they continued to operate the works until its closure in 1887. The site was subsequently occupied by a succession of businesses, latterly Air Products, which produced air separation and cryogenic storage equipment. The site ceased commercial operations in late 2009.Acrefair and Cefn Mawr were also home to the Monsanto Company chemical works, which had produced chemicals since before World War II. The site was the American company's first venture in Europe. Monsanto later operated the site as FlexSys, one of their subsidiaries, but production on this site ceased in 2010. Coal, clay and iron were also worked in the area during its industrial period. Acrefair railway station was formerly a station on the Ruabon–Barmouth line, it closed to passengers on 18 January 1965 as part of the Beeching Axe. The Ruabon Brook Tramway passed through the village at street level, serving the Monsanto works and other local industry.

Cefn Mawr (Welsh: Cefn-mawr; ) is a village in the community of Cefn within Wrexham County Borough, Wales. Its name translates as "big ridge". The population in 2001 was 6,669, increasing to 7,051 in 2011. The community of Cefn comprises the villages of Cefn Mawr, Cefn-bychan ("little ridge"), Acrefair, Penybryn, Newbridge, Plas Madoc and Rhosymedre and is situated on the northern slopes of the Dee Valley.

Cefn railway station was a minor railway station on the Great Western Railway's London to Birkenhead main line serving the mining village of Cefn Mawr in Wales. It opened as Rhosymedre in 1848 but was resited on an adjacent site in 1849 and named Cefn. It had an adjacent signal box but the station seems not to have handled freight traffic. The remains of the station and yard area can be seen just to the north of Cefn Viaduct (also known as Dee Viaduct). Although the station is gone the railway remains open as part of the Shrewsbury to Chester Line.

Plas Madoc (standard Welsh: Plas Madog; ) is a housing estate and former electoral ward near Acrefair, in the Cefn community in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It is located seven miles to the south-west of Wrexham, and contains The Land adventure playground, and a community-run leisure centre with a swimming pool. The area is one of the most deprived areas (top 10% most deprived) in Wales, and the fourth most deprived LSOA in Wrexham County Borough.Plas Madoc F.C. was a football club in the area, the club dissolved in 2020.

Newbridge Lodge is a gatehouse to the Wynnstay estate near Ruabon, in Wrexham County Borough, North Wales. Designed by Charles Robert Cockerell in 1827–1828 for Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, 5th Baronet, it is a Grade I listed building. Its gates and railings have a separate Grade I listing.

Newbridge is a village in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The village is within the community of Cefn, to the south-east of Cefn Mawr. Newbridge is bounded to the west by the Shrewsbury–Chester railway line and the Newbridge Railway Viaduct which crosses the River Dee, which meanders to the south and east of the village. The Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB since 2011 borders the village to the south, as does the Wynnstay estate, and Tŷ Mawr Country Park is on the other side of the viaduct to the west.

Tŷ Mawr Country Park (Welsh: Parc Gwledig Tŷ Mawr) is a country park and farm park near Cefn Mawr in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The country park lies between Cefn-bychan and Newbridge to the north, the River Dee to the south and west, and the Cefn Viaduct carrying the Shrewsbury–Chester line to the east.

The Cefn (Newbridge) Viaduct is Grade II* listed railway viaduct across the River Dee between Cefn and Chirk communities in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. The viaduct is near the villages of Cefn Mawr (and Cefn-bychan), Pentre and Newbridge. The viaduct forms the eastern boundary of Tŷ Mawr Country Park and is around a mile downstream of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.
