Quincy ( KWIN-zee) is a coastal U.S. city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. It is the largest city in the county and a part of Metropolitan Boston as one of Boston's immediate southern suburbs. Its population in 2020 was 101,636, making it the seventh-largest city in the state. Known as the "City of Presidents", Quincy is the birthplace of two U.S. presidents—John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams—as well as John Hancock (a President of the Continental Congress and the first signer of the Declaration of Independence) and the first and third Governor of Massachusetts. First settled in 1625, Quincy was briefly part of Dorchester before becoming the north precinct of Braintree in 1640. In 1792, Quincy was split off from Braintree; the new town was named after Colonel John Quincy, maternal grandfather of Abigail Adams and after whom John Quincy Adams was also named. Quincy became a city in 1888. For more than a century, Quincy was home to a thriving granite industry; the city was also the site of the Granite Railway, the United States' first commercial railroad. Shipbuilding at the Fore River Shipyard was another key part of the city's economy. In the 20th century, both Howard Johnson's and Dunkin' Donuts were founded in the city.

The Baxter Street Historic District is a residential historic district roughly at 19-34 Baxter Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. It encompasses an enclave of four duplex worker housing units of a type called the "Quincy Cottage", which were built in the 1880s for workers in a locally important shoe manufacturing company. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Seth Spear Homestead is a historic house at 47-49 Spear Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built c. 1850 by either Thomas Drake or Seth Spear, who purchased Drake's property. Spear was one of the largest landowners in the immediate area. The house is a fairly typical Greek Revival structure, although it has had a large ell added to the rear (sometime before 1876), and its front portico dates to the 1890s. It now has 5 units rented out.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Hardwick House is a historic house at 59–61 Spear Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1850s, and is one of the city's largest Greek Revival houses. Its massing, with side-gable roof, is more typical of the Federal period, but it has corner pilasters, a full entablature, and pedimented gables. The main entry has full-length side lights and is topped by an entablature. The house was built by Franklin Hardwick, owner of a local granite business.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Solon Dogget House is a historic house at 50 Union Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The 1+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was built in 1872 by Henry G. Pratt, who sold it to Solon Dogget, a poet and artist. It is a well-preserved local example of Second Empire style, with a mansard roof, patterned shingling on the walls, and Queen Anne porches with spindled friezes and turned posts. It has Stick style bracketing on the door hoods.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The C. F. Pettengill House is a historic house at 53 Revere Road in Quincy, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame house was probably built in the 1890s; it is a finely-detailed version of a Queen Anne style house which was once common in Quincy. Its features include varied gabling and shingle decoration, as well as a front porch decorated with latticework and turned posts. C. F. Pettengill owned a nearby jewelry and clock shop.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Thomas Crane Public Library (TCPL) is a city library in Quincy, Massachusetts. It is noted for its architecture. It was funded by the Crane family as a memorial to Thomas Crane, a wealthy stone contractor who got his start in the Quincy quarries. The Thomas Crane Library has the second largest municipal collection in Massachusetts after the Boston Public Library.

The US Post Office-Quincy Main is a historic post office at 47 Washington Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. It is a Classical Revival structure, two stories tall, built in 1909 out of limestone. It has corner pilasters, and a central entry section that projects slightly, also with articulating pilasters, and three recessed entryways. The building was originally built to house a variety of federal government offices, as well as providing the first purpose-built home for Quincy's main post office.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Quincy Savings Bank building is a historic bank building at 1372 Hancock Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. Built in 1897, this four-story brick Classical Revival building is one of only two surviving 19th century commercial buildings in Quincy Center. Distinctive features include the granite quoining at the corners, and entrance portico with doubled Doric columns and a granite pediment. It was the fourth home for the bank, which was founded in 1845. Quincy Savings Bank was acquired by Citizens Bank in 1995. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

Bethany Congregational Church (www.bethanycongchurch.org) is a historic Congregational church building at 18 Spear Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The Gothic Revival building was designed and built in 1927 to a design by J. Williams Beal, Sons, for a congregation which was established in 1832. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. Services are held every Sunday at 9:30 AM. All are welcome.

The Adams Building is a historic commercial building at 1342–1368 Hancock Street in downtown Quincy, Massachusetts. Built in stages between 1880 and 1890, it is a distinctive example of Jacobethan architecture, and is one of city's oldest commercial buildings. It was owned for many years by members of the politically prominent Adams family. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Granite Trust Company is a historic commercial building at 1400 Hancock Street in Quincy, Massachusetts. The Art Deco building was designed by J. Williams Beal, Sons, constructed in 1929, and is ten stories tall. It was built for the Granite Trust Company (later the South Shore Bank), whose predecessor, the Quincy Stone Bank, was the community's first commercial bank. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
