Lake Mitchell (Michigan)

The Clam Lake Canal (sometimes called the Cadillac Canal) is a man-made canal between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac in Cadillac, Michigan made by George A. Mitchell in the 1870s. The purpose of the canal was to facilitate the movement of logs to sawmills. The canal displays an unusual water phenomenon; it is frozen over in the first part of the winter when the lakes on each side of it are unfrozen. Then when the adjacent lakes freeze, the canal remains unfrozen.

William Mitchell State Park is a public recreation area covering 334 acres (135 ha) within the city limits of Cadillac in northern lower Michigan. The state park is located between Lake Mitchell and Lake Cadillac. The historic Clam Lake Canal, approximately one-third of a mile in length, connects the two lakes and runs directly through the park. Dug in 1873 at the direction of city father George A. Mitchell, the canal allowed felled trees to be floated from Lake Mitchell to lumber mills on Lake Cadillac.

Selma Township is a civil township of Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,233 at the 2020 census.

Cherry Grove Township is a civil township of Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,421 at the 2020 census.

Wedgewood is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population of the CDP was 227 at the 2020 census. Wedgewood is located within Cherry Grove Township.

Cadillac High School (also referred to as Cadillac Senior High School) is a public high school in Cadillac, Michigan, United States. It is one of eight schools in the Cadillac Area Public Schools (CAPS) school district.

Wexford County Airport (IATA: CAD, ICAO: KCAD, FAA LID: CAD) is a general aviation airport located in the city of Cadillac in Wexford County, Michigan, United States. The airport is publicly-owned by the county. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a local general aviation facility. The airport has hosted a number of fly-ins, open houses, and attractions to draw locals and visitors to the facilities. The airport has also been a stop for national racing competitions.

The Wexford County Civic Center is an indoor arena located in Cadillac, Michigan. It currently seats up to 1,800 in retractable bleachers for sporting events and up to 2,700 for concerts. An ice arena and the county fairgrounds are nearby. The Civic Center, which resembles a gymnasium more than an arena, features 20,000 square feet (2,000 m2) of space and can also be used for trade shows, conventions, banquets, circuses and other events. Currently the locker rooms at the Civic Center are undergoing renovations.

The Old Cadillac City Hall is a government building located at 201 Mitchell Street in Cadillac, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1983 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

Cadillac ( KADD-ə-lack) is a city in and county seat of Wexford County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 10,371 at the 2020 census, making it the second most-populated city in the Northern Michigan region, after Traverse City. Cadillac was settled as early as 1871 and formerly known as the village of Clam Lake before incorporating as a city in 1877. The city is located upon the shores of Lake Cadillac, connected by the Clam Lake Canal to Lake Mitchell. The Clam River, which begins Cadillac, is part of the Muskegon River watershed. Cadillac is the junction of three major highways: US Highway 131, M-55, and M-115. The geographic center of Michigan is approximately five miles (8.0 km) north-northwest of Cadillac. Cadillac is the primary city of the Cadillac micropolitan area, which includes all of Wexford County and Missaukee County to the east, and had population of 48,725 at the 2020 census.

The Masonic Temple in Cadillac, Michigan is a commercial building built in 1899. It is the earliest surviving fraternal building designed by the prolific architect Sidney Osgood. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
