The University of Vocational Technology (UoVT) Sinhala: වෘත්තීය තාක්ෂණ විශ්වවිද්‍යාලය, Tamil: இலங்கை வாழ்க்கைதொழில் தொழிநுட்பவியல் பல்கலைக்கழகம் is established by the parliamentary Act No. 31 of 2008, in 2009 and functions under the purview of the Ministry of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation . The general objective of the University of Vocational Technology is to provide progressive upward movement to the students in the Engineering Technology Education and Industrial Training System, based on their aptitudes and abilities, to acquire university education.The University of Vocational Technology hosts four faculties, fourteenth departments, and teaches about 5000 students in the fields of mechatronics, manufacturing, IT(software), IT(Network), IT(Multimedia & Web), food, film and television production, building services technology, construction technology, industrial management and teaching.

Ratmalana International Airport (Sinhala: රත්මලාන ජාත්‍යන්තර ගුවන්තොටුපළ, romanized: Ratmalāna Jātyantara Guvantoṭupaḷa; Tamil: இரத்மலானை சர்வதேச விமான நிலையம், romanized: Iratmalāṉai Sarvadesa Vimāṉa Nilaiyam) (officially known as Colombo International Airport, Ratmalana and locally as Ratmalana Airport) (IATA: RML, ICAO: VCCC), is the secondary international airport serving the city of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. It was the country's first international airport and was the only international airport in Sri Lanka until the inauguration of Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake, in 1967. The airport currently serves several domestic services and is home to several aviation training organisations. A relaxation of rules has recently seen the airport open for international corporate jet operations and charter flights. The airport is located 15 km south of Colombo City. The strategic significance of Ratmalana International Airport has been identified along with the emerging Colombo Financial City, High End Tourism and business travel needs of High Net Worth Individuals (HNWIs). The long-term strategic goal of RMA is to bring the airport to the optimum operational capacity by maximum utilization of existing resources. Therefore, to achieve this goal, five strategic areas with specific strategies have been identified as Corporate Jet Operations, Domestic Aviation Hub, Aviation Training hub in the Region, FBO & MRO investments and Regional Airports Operations.

Ratmalana is a suburb in Colombo District, Western Province, Sri Lanka. It is inside the administration boundary of Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council. Ratmalana is situated 14.6 km south of Colombo city centre. Ratmalana Airport located here was the country's first and main international airport until the inauguration of Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake in 1967. Ratmalana is also the birthplace of Sir John Kotelawala, the third Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) elected in 1953. Maliban Biscuit Manufactories, one of the largest manufacturers, distributors and marketers of bakery products in Sri Lanka, is headquartered in Ratmalana.

General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) (Sinhala: ජෙනරාල් ශ්‍රිමත් ජෝන් කොතලාවල ආරක්ෂක විශ්ව විද්‍යාලය General Sir John Kotelawala Arakshaka Vishva Vidyalaya) located at Kandawala, Ratmalana, Colombo, is state defense university of Sri Lanka which is administered by the Ministry of Defense. The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy was established in 1980 by the Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy Act, No. 68 of 1981 as the joint defence service training institute of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, where cadets of the three services, Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force under go academic training together before they go on to respective service academy for further pre-commission training. It was named after General Sir John Kotelawala, third Prime Minister of Ceylon who donated his home for the academy. It was made a university by an amendment bill passed in Parliament on 11 October 2007 which lead to both military and civil students to be admitted.

Kandawala was the home of General Sir John Lionel Kotelawala CH KBE LLD (4 April 1897 - 2 October 1980) was a Sri Lankan politician, most notable for serving as Prime Minister of Ceylon from 1953 to 1956. The house is located in a 48-acre (190,000 m2) estate that includes a lake known as Kandawala lake. John Kotelawala bought Kandawala estate with its small three bed-roomed house in 1920 at a public auction. In 1926, Kandawala built a two-story main house as his primary residence and office. This is known as Kandawala Valava, and it is the design of an expert architect, Mr. Siribaddhana Divithotavala, who designed the Demodara Nine Arch Bridge and Horagolla Valava. The main house was built by Kotelawala in 1926. He moved in soon after its completion. During World War II, the house was used as the station headquarters and officers mess for the RAF based at the Ratmalana Airport. Kotelawala remained at Kandawala even after he became Prime Minister and did not move into Temple Trees. He carried out much state business from his office in Kotelawala. After his death, in accordance with Sir John's last-will, Kandawala Estate was handed over to the Sri Lankan military to be turned into a Tri-Service Defence Academy. In 1985 the Sri Lankan Government established General Sir John Kotelawala Defence Academy at Kandawala named after him, it was renamed General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University in 2007.

The Colombo South Waste Processing Facility (also referred to as the Karadiyana W2E Project or Karadiyana Power Station) is a municipal solid waste-fired thermal power station currently under construction at a 10-acre (40,000 m2) site in Karadiyana, Sri Lanka. Together with the KCHT Power Station, it is one of two projects that won the bid by the Urban Development Authority, from a pool of 121 bidders. Construction of the facility began on 23 August 2017 with a completion slated for mid-2019. The estimated cost of the project is approximately US$91 million.The 10 megawatt power station will be operated by Fairway Waste Management (Private) Limited, a subsidiary of the Fairway Holdings. It will use 500 metric tons (1,100,000 lb) of waste, with the generated power sold to the state-owned Ceylon Electricity Board at a rate of Rs. 37.10 per KWh generated. The residual bottom ash from the process will be used for road construction and other uses, while the unusable fly ash (amounting to 2%) will be disposed of at predesignated locations.

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (commonly abbreviated as NWSDB) is the National Organization responsible for the provision of safe drinking water and facilitating the provision of sanitation to the people in Sri Lanka. The organization had its beginning as a sub department under the Public Works Department for water supply and drainage. In 1965, it became a division under the Ministry of Local Government. From 1970, this division functioned as a separate department under the Ministry of Irrigation, Power and Highways and remained so until the present board was established in January 1975 by an act of Parliament of Sri Lanka. The main functions of the National Water Supply & Drainage Board (NWSDB), which presently functions under the Ministry of Water Supply & Drainage are operation and maintenance of water supply and sewerage schemes, implementation of new urban and rural water supply projects, carrying out sector planning, feasibility studies, detailed designs, tender documentation, contract administration, project supervision and research and development work in the water and sanitation sector.

The Weras Ganga Park (also known as Weras Ganga Bellanwila Recreation Park) is a public park located in Bellanwila area, next to the Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Sri Pushparama Vihara ( Sinhala: ශ්‍රී පුෂ්පාරාම විහාරය) is a historic Buddhist temple situated in Ratmalana, Western province, Sri Lanka. It is located at Sri Dharmarama junction on the Colombo-Galle main road. The temple has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka. The designation was declared on 23 February 2007 under the government Gazette number 1486.

Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya is a Buddhist temple situated in Bellanwila, Colombo District, Sri Lanka. Located around 12 km south to the Colombo city, near Dehiwala - Maharagama road, the temple attracts hundreds of devotees daily and is famous for its annual Esala Perehera festival which usually takes place in the month of August or September. One of the most venerated Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka, many devotees flock to worship the sacred Bo tree of Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara, which is considered to be one of the first offshoots of Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka. The present chief incumbent of Bellanwila Rajamaha Vihara is Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Dhammaratana Nayaka Thera.

Boralesgamuwa is a city on the Colombo-Horana Road about 14 km (9 mi) south-east of the commercial capital Colombo. The Boralesgamuwa junction was formerly known as Nagass Handiya. One of Sri Lanka's largest kaolin deposits is in Boralesgamuwa. The Bellanwila Rajamaha Viharaya is very close to the Boralesgamuwa. The post code of Boralesgamuwa is 10290.

Samudrasanna Vihara ( Sinhala: සමුද්‍රාසන්න විහාරය) is a historic Buddhist temple situated at Mount-Lavinia in the Western province, Sri Lanka. It is located near to the Templers road junction on the Colombo-Galle main road. The temple has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka. The designation was declared on 6 June 2008 under the government Gazette number 1553.
