Rose–Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT) is a private university in Terre Haute, Indiana. Founded in 1874 in Terre Haute, Rose–Hulman is one of the United States's few undergraduate-focused engineering and technology universities. Though it started with only three bachelor's degree programs, Rose–Hulman has since grown to twelve academic departments with over thirty undergraduate and graduate degree programs in science, engineering, technology, and engineering management, leading to bachelor's and master's degrees. Rose–Hulman's curriculum focuses on both career preparation and undergraduate-driven research in STEM-fields. It is classified among "Special Focus Four-Year: Engineering and Other Technology-Related Schools".

Vigo County Home for Dependent Children, also known as the Glenn Home, is a historic orphanage located in Lost Creek Township, Vigo County, Indiana. The main building was built in 1903, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, Colonial Revival style brick building on a raised basement. It has a hipped and gabled roof and features a semi-circular, two-story portico with four Doric order columns. Also on the property is a contributing former boiler house. The main building is the home of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity chapter at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.: 5–6 In the1970's Glenn Home was the location of one of the most abusive orphanages in USA history. The abuses included psychological, emotional, physical and/or sexual on children as young as 10 years of age. East Glenn is an unincorporated community in central Lost Creek Township, Vigo County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.Just outside the boundaries of Terre Haute, it is also part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area.

It contains Terre Haute, Indiana's eastern, suburban end, along with the affluent Hulman family ranch and the Terre Haute International Airport originally named after the family. Seelyville, the third largest city in the county, is also located there.

Highland Lawn Cemetery is a city-owned cemetery in Terre Haute, Indiana. Opened in 1884, the cemetery includes 139 acres (0.56 km2). The cemetery features a Richardsonian Romanesque chapel built by architect Jesse A. Vrydaugh in 1893 for a cost of $10,000. In the 1980s, the chapel underwent renovation which was completed in March 1988. Highland Lawn also includes a bell tower built by the Heidenreich Company in 1894, a gateway arch completed by Edward Hazledine and a Colonial rest house designed by W.H. Floyd.Highland Lawn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 for its significance in agriculture and landscaping.

Max Ehrmann (September 26, 1872 – September 9, 1945) was an American writer, poet, and attorney from Terre Haute, Indiana, widely known for his 1927 prose poem "Desiderata" (Latin: "things desired"). He often wrote on spiritual themes.

Butternut Hill, also known as Prospect Hill, Blake House, and Ross House, is a historic home located at Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. It was built about 1835, and enlarged in 1869 and 1902. It is a two-story, central passage plan, vernacular Greek Revival style brick dwelling.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Anton "Tony" Hulman Jr. (February 11, 1901 – October 27, 1977) was an American businessman from Terre Haute, Indiana, who bought the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1945 and brought racing back to the famous race course after a four-year hiatus following World War II.
