Lindale Mill

The Old Brick Mill is a historic grist mill built in Lindale, Georgia, US in the 1830s. It has also been called the Jones Mill, the Hoss Mill, The Silver Creek Mill, and the Folly Mill. It was built by enslaved people and is one of only a few surviving antebellum mills in Georgia. It operated as a mill until the 1890s and has had several uses since then. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Georgia Highlands College (Georgia Highlands or GHC) is a public college in northwest Georgia. It has locations in Floyd County (near Rome), Cartersville, Marietta, and Dallas and serves the northwest parts of Georgia, as well as parts of east Alabama and southeast Tennessee. A member of the University System of Georgia, the college was originally a community college and has since expanded to also offer bachelor degrees in healthcare management, logistics and supply chain management, dental hygiene, criminal justice, and an RN-BSN program. Students are now being accepted into a bachelor's of health science degree launched in 2020 and an associate's entrepreneurship pathway launched in 2021. Between 5,700 and 6,100 students are enrolled at GHC in any given semester, representing 49 different countries. In 2020, the college had a record high number of graduates and an economic impact of over $181 million.

Darlington School is a private, coeducational, college-preparatory day and boarding school in Rome, Georgia founded in 1905. It serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade 12, and is divided into a Pre-K to 8 division and an Upper School division. The student body represents more than 20 countries each year. The Head of School is Brent Bell, the Upper School Director is Chad Woods, and the Pre-K to 8 Director is Hope Jones.

The East Rome Historic District, in Rome, Georgia, is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The listing included 112 contributing buildings on 60 acres (24 ha).The district is mostly residential. It is roughly bounded by Walnut Ave., McCall Blvd., E. 8th and 10th Streets in Rome. It includes a commercial area around the intersection of East 8th and Second Avenue plus the northern end of Maple Avenue. This area includes a two-story brick former fire station, a frame retail building, and some former residences now used commercially. Another small commercial section is on Maple Avenue is by the railroad, around the former site of the depot; it includes brick buildings.The residential architecture of the district includes Victorian, Queen Anne, Second Empire, Georgian Revival, Bungalow/Craftsman, and Period Styles. One of the most elaborate Victorian ones is the Colonel Hamilton Yancey Residence in the Second Empire style.

The South Broad Street Historic District in Rome, Georgia is a 10 acres (4.0 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The listing included 41 contributing buildings.It includes large houses on South Broad Street, built of brick and frame, built during 1880 to 1910.

The Nathan Bedford Forrest Monument is a partially dismantled monument at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Rome, Georgia, United States. It was dedicated in the early 1900s in honor of Nathan Bedford Forrest, a general in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. It was initially located in the median of Broad Street near Second Street, but was relocated to the cemetery in 1952 due to traffic issues. In the 2020s, the monument came under increased scrutiny, prompting the statue to be removed in 2021. The monument was commissioned by the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Forrest had been a popular figure in Rome due to his actions during the war, which included the 1863 capture of Colonel Abel Streight, who had planned to lead to Union army raid across North Georgia. In 1910, another Confederate monument commissioned by the Sons of Confederate Veterans was installed next to the monument. Both were relocated to Myrtle Hill Cemetery, where they remained next to each other and were later incorporated into the Veteran's Plaza, an area of the cemetery centered on the Tomb of the Known Soldier. The monument became the subject of criticism and calls for removal in the early 21st century, especially amidst the George Floyd protests in 2020, due to Forrest's actions in both the Civil War and afterwards, which included a stint as the inaugural grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. In mid-2020, the city commission voted unanimously to relocate the statue, and it was removed from the monument in January 2021. Later that year, the statue was relocated to the Rome Area History Museum.
