Geervliet

Heenvliet is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nissewaard, and lies about 7 km south of Maassluis, on the Brielse Maas. Heenvliet was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Bernisse.In 2001, the town of Heenvliet had 2,675 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.36 km2, and contained 1,064 residences. The wider statistical district of Heenvliet, which covers that part of the "Polder Heenvliet" that is in Bernisse, has a population of around 2,700. The historic ruins of Ravesteyn Castle are located in the town.

Bernisse (Dutch pronunciation: [bɛrˈnɪsə] ) is a former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. Since 2015 it has been a part of the municipality of Nissewaard. The former municipality had a population of data missing in 2021, and covered an area of 68.46 km2 (26.43 sq mi) of which 11.12 km2 (4.29 sq mi) was water. The former municipality was named after the river Bernisse, which flows right through it from the Spui to the Brielse Meer and separates the estuary islands of Voorne and Putten. The former municipality of Bernisse consisted of the following communities: Abbenbroek, Biert, Geervliet, Heenvliet, Oudenhoorn, Simonshaven, Zuidland. The municipality of Bernisse was formed on January 1, 1980, through the amalgamation of the municipalities Abbenbroek, Oudenhoorn, Zuidland, and parts of the municipalities Geervliet (including Simonshaven) and Heenvliet.

Ravesteyn Castle (nl: Kasteel Ravesteyn) is a castle in Heenvliet, South Holland. The castle was likely built circa 1250, and was in use until being destroyed during the Eighty Years' War. The castle ruins are part of a protected garden.

De Hoop is a gristmill in Abbenbroek, Netherlands. The mill was built in 1843. The mill is a rijksmonument.

Abbenbroek is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nissewaard, and lies about 6 km west of Spijkenisse. In 2001, the village of Abbenbroek had 971 inhabitants. The built-up area of the town was 0.22 km², and contained 390 residences. The wider statistical district of Abbenbroek, covering the town and the "Polder Abbenbroek", has a population of around 1350.Until 1980, Abbenbroek was a separate municipality, when it became part of Bernisse.The municipal coat of arms is attested in the Beyeren Armorial (c. 1405, fol. 39v). It shows a pair of breeches, reflecting the popular interpretation of the element broek (properly "brook, marshland").

The Botlek originally was the name of a stretch of the Nieuwe Maas river, part of the Rhine–Meuse delta near the Dutch cities of Vlaardingen and Spijkenisse in the province of South Holland. Specifically, it was the name of the strait that separated the island of Rozenburg from the sand bar of Welplaat. The strait itself was merely the continuation of the Nieuwe Maas, and the stretch of the river south of Rozenburg continued to be called Nieuwe Maas until the confluence with Het Scheur formed the Brielse Maas estuary (now the Brielse Meer). Major waterway regulation works were carried out in the Netherlands in the 19th and 20th centuries to improve water management and stop the delta from silting up; the Botlek was dammed off at its southern end (connecting Rozenburg and Welplaat) and remodelled into one of the largest of the Rotterdam seaports (see also Europoort).

Blankenburg is a former village that was located on the Dutch island of Rozenburg in the province of South Holland. It was located to the west of Rotterdam and to the southeast of the village of Rozenburg and was part of the Blankenburg island polder of the same name, which was created around 1600 by migrants from Blankenberge in Flanders. Soon after, it formed a single island with Rozenburg and a few embankments in the Maas estuary. The village that originated in the seventeenth century was completely abandoned in the early 1960s due to the construction of Europoort. One of the first inhabitants of the island was Willem Pietersz. Moerman (ca.1575-1648), a farmer, birdwatcher and hunter who fled from Flanders during the Eighty Years' War. He is probably the one who gave the island the name Blankenburg, after the town of Blankenberge where he came from. Within a century, the settlement grew into a village with its own church and courthouse.Until the beginning of the 20th century the village of Blankenburg was the center of the island. Here stood the church, the school and the court house. There was also a ferry connection over the Brielse Maas with Nieuwesluis on the island Voorne-Putten. After 1900 the center was increasingly located on the Maassluis side of the island, in the village that was named Rozenburg but was initially called 'De Buurt' (Dutch for the neighbourhood). Until 1965 Blankenburg was a village of approximately 400 inhabitants and 130 houses that were built along various dikes. In 1960 the municipality of Rotterdam expropriated the houses and farms for the construction of the Europoort industrial area. The Rotterdam band The Amazing Stroopwafels wrote a song about the village. The name 'Blankenburg' also lives on in the name of a still existing football club. The name of the Blankenburg Tunnel connection which is currently under construction refers to the former polder.

Rozenburg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈroːzə(m)bʏr(ə)x] ) is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The municipality had a population of 13,173 in 2004, and covers an area of 6.50 km² (of which 1.99 km² water). It was the second-smallest municipality in the Netherlands in area (behind Bennebroek). On 10 July 2008, the local council decided to disband the municipality and to form a submunicipality of Rotterdam. This was ratified on 27 October 2008 by the Eerste Kamer (the Dutch Senate), and came into effect on 18 March 2010. The town is located on the former island by the same name: Rozenburg Island. Its current form was created out of three separate parts: Rozenburg proper (a former sand bar between Het Scheur and Brielse Maas – part of the Nieuwe Maas river – both being branches of the Rhine–Meuse–Scheldt delta), the sand bar Welplaat, and the southernmost part of the Hook of Holland (which was cut off from mainland Holland by the construction of the Nieuwe Waterweg ship canal in 1870 and subsequently was connected to Rozenburg when the remainder of Het Scheur was dammed off). The island is now connected to Voorne-Putten by a sea barrier and a dam.

Biert is a hamlet in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located in the municipality of Nissewaard, about 3 km west of Spijkenisse. Biert was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1855, when it became part of Geervliet.

Nissewaard (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈnɪsəˌʋaːrt]) is a municipality in the Netherlands, located on the island of Voorne-Putten, in the south of the province of South Holland. It was created through a merger of the municipalities of Spijkenisse and Bernisse on 1 January 2015. Nissewaard has a population of about 85,000 as of 2014.

The Hartelkering (English: Hartel barrier) is a storm surge barrier in Spijkenisse, Netherlands. The barrier is part of the Europoortkering, itself part of the Delta Works project and is designed to close the Hartelkanaal (nl) in case of a storm surge.

Zuidland is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Nissewaard, and lies about 6 km west of Spijkenisse. As of 2022, the town of Zuidland had 6.094 inhabitants, they are called "Slandenaren". The built-up area of the town was 0.87 km², and contained 1878 residences. The wider statistical district of Zuidland, which also covers the "Polder Zuidland", has a population of around 5130.Zuidland was a separate municipality until 1980, when it became part of Bernisse.
