Palčje (pronounced [ˈpaːltʃjɛ], in older sources Paličje, German: Palitschje) is a village east of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.

Koritnice (pronounced [kɔˈɾiːtnitsɛ]; German: Koritnize, Italian: Coritenza) is a village east of Knežak in the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.

Lake Palčje (Slovene: Palško jezero) is an intermittent lake in the Pivka basin north of the settlement Palčje in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It fills an oval-shaped karst depression, crossed by Pivka, and approximately 1.5 km (0.93 mi) long and 0.5 km (0.31 mi) wide. Its bottom is relatively level at between 543 and 557 m (1,781 and 1,827 ft) above sea level, but the banks are steep. Lake Palčje is the largest among the Pivka Lakes with average maximum water area around 1 km2 (0.39 sq mi). The bottom is at groundwater level, so the amount of water depends on current hydrological conditions. Usually, the lake fills after the heavy rains in late autumn and again in spring. On average, the area is flooded for around three months every year. The lake's main inflow is the estavelle Matija's Cave (Matijeva jama) out of which the water flowing from the Javornik Hills erupts.

Bač (pronounced [ˈbatʃ]; German: Batsch, Italian: Baccia) is a village northeast of Knežak in the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.

Kalec Castle (Slovene: Grad Kalec, originally Kalc or Kauc; German: Steinberg or Stemberg) is a partially ruined castle in Bač in Slovenia. The castle, of which only a single tower and some sections of wall survive intact, stands on a slope known as Breg, near the source of the Pivka River, at an elevation of 618 m. Illustrated in Valvasor's 1689 Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, it was built in the mid-17th century by the noble house of Steinberg. Its later owners included the Auersperg family and the Slovene composer Miroslav Vilhar, who also died in it. The castle was abandoned by its last residents after World War I, and began falling apart. In 1941 it hosted a meeting of the antifascist militant group TIGR. Today the Krpan Hiking Trail passes beside the ruins, which are surrounded by a copse of old linden trees. The path to the castle is bordered by a row of chestnut trees.

The Littoral–Inner Carniola Statistical Region (Slovene: primorsko-notranjska statistična regija) is a statistical region in southwest Slovenia. Until January 1, 2015 it was named the Inner Carniola–Karst Statistical Region (Slovene: notranjsko-kraška statistična regija). The karst terrain, with Postojna Cave and intermittent Lake Cerknica, is the most important natural feature of this statistical region. This is one of the smallest statistical regions in Slovenia, and it is the least densely populated, with a population density six times lower than the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. The region is among the economically less developed ones in the country because in 2012 it contributed only 1.8% of Slovenia’s GDP. With an average of four employees per company, the enterprises in the region are among the smallest in Slovenia. In 2012, agriculture in this region generated around 6% of gross value added, which is one of the highest shares of gross value added by agriculture per individual region. In 2013, the average utilised agricultural area per farm was the highest in this region. The region has the highest employment rate in Slovenia (it was 59.9% in 2013), and the registered unemployment rate is among the lowest. The region also has the highest share of women in tertiary education (151 female students per 100 male students).

There is also a Javorníky mountain range in the Carpathian Mountains The Javornik Hills (Slovene: Javorniki) are a limestone plateau in Slovenia and part of the Dinaric Alps. The highest peak is Veliki Javornik at 1,268 metres (4,160 ft) above sea level. At the northern edge of the Javornik Hills lies the Postojna Gate.

Knežak (pronounced [knɛˈʒaːk]; German: Grafenbrunn, Italian: Fontana del Conte) is a village on the main road from Postojna to Ilirska Bistrica in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. It belongs to the Municipality of Ilirska Bistrica. The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to the Assumption of Mary and belongs to the Koper Diocese. The poet, composer, and playwright Miroslav Vilhar (1818–1871) is buried in Knežak.

Trnje (pronounced [ˈtəɾnjɛ], German: Dorn) is a village east of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia.

Drskovče (pronounced [dəɾˈskoːu̯tʃɛ]) is a village south of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. The small church in the settlement is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows and belongs to the Parish of Zagorje.

Klenik (pronounced [ˈkleːnik]) is a village east of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. The local church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Leonard and belongs to the Parish of Trnje.

Zagorje (pronounced [zaˈɡoːɾjɛ]; German: Sagorje) is a village in the Municipality of Pivka in the Inner Carniola region of Slovenia. The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Helena and belongs to the Koper Diocese. The chapel at the cemetery, north of the settlement, is dedicated to Saint Paul.
