Joliet Army Ammunition Plant (JOAAP, formerly known as the Joliet Arsenal) was a United States Army arsenal located in Will County, Illinois, near Elwood, Illinois, south of Joliet, Illinois. Opened in 1940 during World War II, the facility consisted of the Elwood Ordnance Plant (EOP) and the Kankakee Ordnance Works (KNK). In 1945, the two were deactivated and combined forming the Joliet Arsenal. The plant was reactivated for the Korean War and renamed Joliet Army Ammunition Plant during the Vietnam War. Production of TNT ended in 1976, and the major plant operations closed shortly after in the late 1970s. The facility briefly revived an automated load-assemble-pack (LAP) artillery shell operation that was managed by the Honeywell Corporation during the Reagan administration in the 1980s before it was finally closed.Portions of the site have been redeveloped forming the CenterPoint Intermodal Center, Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.

The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery covers 982 acres (397 ha) in Elwood, Illinois. It is located approximately 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Chicago, Illinois. When fully completed, it will provide 400,000 burial spaces. The cemetery was dedicated in 1999 by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration. It was the 117th national cemetery dedicated under the administration. The cemetery is on the grounds of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant site, which was formerly known as the Joliet Arsenal. The cemetery is named after President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States and founder of the National Cemetery system and who is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. In 2015 the first American federally approved monument honoring LGBT veterans was dedicated at the cemetery.

Elwood is a village in rural Will County, Illinois, United States, approximately 40 miles southwest of Chicago. The population was 2,229 at the 2020 United States Census, down from 2,279 in 2010.

CenterPoint Intermodal Center is an intermodal freight terminal located in Elwood, Illinois. It is considered the largest inland port in North America.The Intermodal Center includes a 785-acre Union Pacific Railroad complex just south of Joliet and a 770-acre BNSF Railway complex further to the southwest. The facility's location was formerly part of the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. Construction of the Intermodal Center began as part of the Joliet Arsenal redevelopment effort after 2000. The village of Elwood supported this with $150 million of TIF funding.

Florence Township is located in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 933 and it contained 370 housing units. Florence Township was formed from a portion of Wilmington Township at an unknown date.

Jackson Township is in Will County, Illinois. As of the 2020 census, its population was 3,898 and it contained 1,595 housing units.

The Gemini Giant is a landmark statue on U.S. Route 66 at the eastern entrance to Wilmington, Will County, Illinois. Standing outside the Launching Pad drive-in restaurant, the 30 foot tall statue is one of many giant "Muffler Man" advertising props found throughout the US in the Sixties. The Gemini Giant is named after the Gemini space program and holds a silver "rocket ship" in his hands, while sporting an astronaut's space helmet that resembles a welding mask.The proprietors of a Dari-Delight restaurant (opened in 1960), John and Bernice Korelc, bought a 438-pound fiberglass Muffler Man figure for $3,500 at the annual National Restaurant Association convention, had it outfitted as an astronaut with helmet and rocket, and renamed the restaurant, now guarded by the Gemini Giant, as the "Launching Pad". Since then, the Giant has been the most prominent decoration of the restaurant. In 2007, the Launching Pad was purchased from Jerry and Sharon Gatties, the owners at the time, by Morey Szczecin, but, after a struggle, the landmark closed again in 2010. In October 2017, it was purchased by Holly Barker and Tully Garrett, who announced plans to restore it "to what it was in its glory days," with the Gemini Giant remaining as a recognized Route 66 landmark. Both the Launching Pad and the Gemini Giant were inducted into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Small–Towle House is a historic residence in Wilmington, Illinois. Wilmington was an important milling down in the 1850s, particularly with the connection of the Chicago and Alton Railroad in 1854. The house was built by William McGinnis in 1864. After five years, he sold the house for more than ten times the price he paid for the lot. One of the early owners of the house was John H. Daniels, Wilmington's first mayor. In 1870, the Small family purchased the home; the son of the owner married the daughter of McGinnis later that year. Eli Small ran the Mohawk Belle, a steamboat on the Illinois and Michigan Canal. The Smalls lived in the house until 1883, when they sold it to the Towle family. The Towles sold the house in 1933 for $1 during the Great Depression under the condition that the owners cared for Julia Towle. Constructed during the transition time between Greek Revival and Italianate styles, the vernacular building is often classified as "upright-and-wing". The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 17, 1979.

Symerton is a village in Will County, Illinois, United States. The population was 128 at the 2020 census. By population, it is the smallest village in Will County.

Millsdale station was an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station in the ghost town of Millsdale, Illinois. It was located on the east bank of the Des Plaines River, and had two tracks passing through. The station is on the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision and freight trains still pass by the site of the former depot.

Millsdale is an abandoned village located in Channahon Township, Will County, Illinois, United States. In 1903, it had a population of 25. In 1946, it had a population of 20. The Santa Fe Railway stopped at Millsdale Station.

Autobahn Country Club is an auto racing road course located in Joliet, Illinois, operated as a country club, while also hosting many outside events. Autobahn was the first purpose-built motorsports country club in the United States, and has inspired several others. The club has a sanctioning body called Autobahn Member Racing, which hosts series for Spec Miatas, GT cars, karts, Radical Sportscars, a discipline called Chase Racing similar to bracket racing, open wheel cars, as well as competitions for rallycross and autocross. As of the 2023 race season, the club requires a $45,000 membership initiation fee. Annual dues is $6100. Membership includes unlimited access to the tracks six days a week in season (April - October), use of the Member Clubhouse, which contains a bar and 40,000 sq. ft. event space. Members can purchase land to build garages and personal condos. A Social/Karting Membership is $5900 and includes all Member Social Events and unlimited access to the go-kart track at Kart Circuit Autobahn, during member hours. Notable members include legendary racers Bobby Rahal, Graham Rahal, David Heinemeier Hansson, Cooper MacNeil, Jay Howard, Peter Dempsey, and Tom Bagley. Many members use the club to drive their exotic and classic cars. The facility is available for rent by private groups. It hosts events for various organizations including the SCCA, NASA, Gridlife, Midwestern Council, PCA, One Lap of America, and various marque and track day clubs. Many manufacturers also rent the facility for marketing events.
