Autobahn Country Club is an auto racing road course located in Joliet, Illinois, operated as a country club, while also hosting many outside events. Autobahn was the first purpose-built motorsports country club in the United States, and has inspired several others. The club has a sanctioning body called Autobahn Member Racing, which hosts series for Spec Miatas, GT cars, karts, Radical Sportscars, a discipline called Chase Racing similar to bracket racing, open wheel cars, as well as competitions for rallycross and autocross. As of the 2023 race season, the club requires a $45,000 membership initiation fee. Annual dues is $6100. Membership includes unlimited access to the tracks six days a week in season (April - October), use of the Member Clubhouse, which contains a bar and 40,000 sq. ft. event space. Members can purchase land to build garages and personal condos. A Social/Karting Membership is $5900 and includes all Member Social Events and unlimited access to the go-kart track at Kart Circuit Autobahn, during member hours. Notable members include legendary racers Bobby Rahal, Graham Rahal, David Heinemeier Hansson, Cooper MacNeil, Jay Howard, Peter Dempsey, and Tom Bagley. Many members use the club to drive their exotic and classic cars. The facility is available for rent by private groups. It hosts events for various organizations including the SCCA, NASA, Gridlife, Midwestern Council, PCA, One Lap of America, and various marque and track day clubs. Many manufacturers also rent the facility for marketing events.

Brandon Road Lock and Dam

The Brandon Road Lock and Dam is a lock and dam complex along the Des Plaines River in Joliet, Illinois. The complex was built from 1927 to 1933 in conjunction with the construction of the Illinois Waterway, which allowed for barge travel between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River. The lock and dam are also used to regulate water levels on the river between Lockport and Joliet. The lock at the complex is 110 by 600 feet (34 by 183 m) and has four Miter gates, with a 34-foot (10.3 meter) drop. The dam is 2,372 feet (723 m) long and includes concrete and earthen segments. The complex also includes a disused junction lock for the Illinois and Michigan Canal, the control station for the lock, and a modern pump house.The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Brandon Road Lock and Dam Historic District on March 10, 2004.

Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery

The Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery covers 982 acres (397 ha) in Elwood, Illinois. It is located approximately 50 miles (80 km) southwest of Chicago, Illinois. When fully completed, it will provide 400,000 burial spaces. The cemetery was dedicated in 1999 by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs National Cemetery Administration. It was the 117th national cemetery dedicated under the administration. The cemetery is on the grounds of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Plant site, which was formerly known as the Joliet Arsenal. The cemetery is named after President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States and founder of the National Cemetery system and who is buried at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. In 2015 the first American federally approved monument honoring LGBT veterans was dedicated at the cemetery.

Established in 1899 and founded in 1901, it is one of the area's oldest school districts. Originally consisting of a single school, Joliet Township High School (now known as Joliet Central High School), the district was expanded for the 1964–1965 school year with two new additional schools, Joliet East High School (closed in 1983, building now used for the Joliet Job Corps) and Joliet West High School (still in operation). JTHS's administrative center is located at the former headquarters for The Herald-News. The district has been named a Chicago Tribune Top 100 Workplace for two years in a row.Joliet Public Schools District 86, Rockdale School District 84, Troy School District 30-C, and Elwood School District 203 feeds into this high school district.

CenterPoint Intermodal Center

CenterPoint Intermodal Center is an intermodal freight terminal located in Elwood, Illinois. It is considered the largest inland port in North America.The Intermodal Center includes a 785-acre Union Pacific Railroad complex just south of Joliet and a 770-acre BNSF Railway complex further to the southwest. The facility's location was formerly part of the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant. Construction of the Intermodal Center began as part of the Joliet Arsenal redevelopment effort after 2000. The village of Elwood supported this with $150 million of TIF funding.
