Högdalen metro station

Högdalen (the High Valley) is a suburban district in South Stockholm, Sweden, built around the metro station with this name on line 19. It was connected to Stockholm City Centre in 1954, three years after the town planning of the Högdalen district was approved. Högdalen (High Valley) is roughly divided between the residential and commercial areas near the metro station in the centre and the industrial area and landfill further to the east. The inhabitants tend to vote mostly for the Social Democrats and the Left Party (in the election of 2006, the left block won with 55,7% of the votes). As of 2006 7,862 people lived in Högdalen, distributed across an area of 2.01 km², which gives a density of 3,911/km². The unemployment rate was 4,9%. Notable landmarks in Högdalen are the neon rooster on top of an apartment block in the commercial area, and the golden rooster on top of the local church. The independent theatre group Fria Teatern is based in Högdalen, where its main stage is located (there is a small one in Kungsholmen as well). Högdalen is part of Vantör borough, together with four other suburban districts.

Bandhagen is a suburban district south of Stockholm with 6510 (2018) inhabitants. It is located in the Enskede-Årsta-Vantör borough neighboring Högdalen, Stureby and Örby. The metro station with the same name was opened in 1954.Progressive metal band, Opeth, formed in Bandhagen in 1989.

Söderort (literally "the southern place", sometimes translated to South Stockholm) is the southern suburban part of the Stockholm Municipality, Sweden. It is also part of the city of Stockholm.

Bandhagen metro station is on the Green line of the Stockholm metro, located in Bandhagen, Söderort. The station was inaugurated on 22 November 1954 as part of the extension from Stureby to Högdalen. The distance to Slussen is 6.5 km. A southerly extension of the Blue line of the Stockholm metro is currently under construction and expected to be opened for the passengers in 2030. As part of this development, the Blue line will take over this station.

Magelungsdiket (Swedish: Magelungen Ditch) is one of three inflows of Lake Magelungen in southern Stockholm, Sweden. It empties into the lake from north together with Kräppladiket while Djupån reaches the southern end of the lake. Magelungsdiket had a drainage area of 17 km² stretching north to Mälarhöjden until the south-western suburbs of Stockholm were built in the early 1950s and water was guided to Lake Mälaren through stormwater pipes. Today only 1,5 km² remains of the drainage area and most of the contributions comes from one-family houses in eastern Rågsved and green areas around Magelungen. Water flow is slow, often stagnant, and the ditch is surrounded by dense vegetation. It opened out in a wetland drained in 1994 in order to create canals and minor islands attracting birds. Very high levels of metals have been reported from a street inlet near the outlet. Together with Kräpplingadiket, it is estimated to contribute some 100 kg/year of phosphorus. The ditch is one of a few locales for Grass Snake in Stockholm.

Rågsved is a suburb historically belonging to the district of Bandhagen in Stockholm, Sweden.

Rågsved metro station is on the Green line of the Stockholm metro, located in Rågsved, Söderort. The station was inaugurated on 13 November 1959 as the southern terminus of a one-station extension from Högdalen. On 1 December 1960 the line was extended further to Hagsätra. The distance to Slussen is 8.5 km (5.3 mi). A southerly extension of the Blue line of the Stockholm metro is currently under construction and expected to be opened for the passengers in 2030. As part of this development, the Blue line will take over this station.

Kräppladiket is one of the four inflow rivers of Lake Magelungen in southern Stockholm, Sweden. It empties into the lake in its northern end together with Magelungsdiket and Norrån while Djupån joins the lake on its southern end. In contrast to Magelungsdiket, Kräppladiket was not considerably affected by the construction of the south-western suburbs in the early 1950s, but important part of the ditch was however guided through culverts limiting the open stream to the 1,4 km passing through the Rågsved Open-air Area south of Rågsved. A bit less than 50 per cent of the catchment area is occupied by one-family houses and green spaces. The upper reach of the ditch is thus affected by relatively low levels of phosphorus and nitrogen, while samples by the lower reach, next to the Snösätra industrial area, showed a presence of high levels of metals. The mouth of Kräppladiket is located in a Reed bed and no defined outflow exists.In 2006 works were started to create a small stormwater dam to purify the water of the ditch before it reaches Lake Magelungen. Hopefully, the initiative will also attract birds, reptiles, and plants. The initiative is part of a project aiming at making Magelungen accessible to angling, rowing, and canoeing by dredging selected portions of it.

Stureby metro station is on the Green line of the Stockholm metro, located in Stureby, Söderort. The provisional station was inaugurated on 1 October 1930 as the southern terminus of the stretch from Gullmarsplan, and the current permanent station was inaugurated on 1 October 1953. On 22 November 1954, the extension south to Högdalen was open. The distance to Slussen is 5.8 km (3.6 mi). A southerly extension of the Blue line of the Stockholm metro is currently under construction and expected to be opened for the passengers in 2030. As part of this development, the Blue line will take over this station.

Örby is a residential area in Söderort, Stockholm Municipality, Sweden. It has an area of 159 hectares and 4,720 inhabitants.

Stureby (pronunciation) is a residential area in southern Stockholm, approx. 3 kilometers from Skanstull. The district at 205 hectares is bordered with Örby, Örby slott, Östberga, Årstafältet, Gamla Enskede, Svedmyra, Gubbängen and Bandhagen. There were farms in the area where Stureby is located in the year 1689 according to a map. The area started to be developed in the year 1921 by the company Fastighets AB Villahem. In 1923 the politicians in Stockholm decided to build a retirement home that was named Gammelbyn to commemorate Gustav Vasa's arrival in Stockholm 400 years earlier. The area was named Stureby after Sten Sture the Younger in 1926. In 1930 the retirement home Gammelbyn was finished and also a new tram station that was part of the tram line Örbybanan. Stureby nursing home opened in 1935. There once lived 1000 people in the retirement home and the nursing home. In 1938 a cinema named Tusse-bio opened in Stureby and was renamed to Corso in 1939. The tram line in Stureby was improved in the 1940s but got replaced with the metro in 1951. In 1953 the temporary metro station Stureby was made permanent and was then an end station. During the 1950s there was an elementary school called Sturebyskolan built and also some apartment blocks were built. Landstinget took over the retirement home Gammelbyn in 1971 and renamed it to Stureby sjukhus. The elementary school was renovated in the year 2000 and currently has 1000 students.

Gamla Östberga ("Old East Hills") is an area of southern Stockholm, Sweden. It encompasses the older and eastern part of Östberga. Östbergastaden ("city of East Hills") was built by HSB in 1957–59 as an experimental district with exemptions from parts of the existing construction legislation. The buildings are long 3–4 floor lamellae, as well as three nine-floor point buildings erected to mark the district and the location of central east hills. This district is an early example of modern element construction using concrete, and eternit to some extent. The district was first restored in 1979 when the buildings were fitted with additional insulation. In the second restoration in 1993, all building fronts were repaired.
