Turvey, Bedfordshire

All Saints Church, Turvey is a Grade I listed parish church in Turvey, Bedfordshire, England. The church originated in the Saxon period, and was largely rebuilt in the 13th century with later additions in the 14th and 15th centuries. It was extensively restored and the chancel rebuilt in the mid-19th century by the architect George Gilbert Scott, who rebuilt the chancel. There are surviving Saxon features in the nave and the tower.

Turvey House and Gardens are a country house, gardens and parkland, situated by the village of Turvey in Bedfordshire, England. The gardens and parkland are listed Grade II in Historic England's Register of Parks and Gardens. and the house is a Grade I listed building. The house is a venue for weddings, events and location shoots.

The A428 road is a major road in central and eastern England. It runs between the cities of Coventry and Cambridge by way of the county towns of Northampton and Bedford. Together with the A421, (and the A43, M40 and the A34), the eastern section (Cambridge to the A1) of the A428 forms the route between Cambridge and Oxford. The A428 was formerly part of the main route from Birmingham to Felixstowe before the A14 was fully opened in 1993.

Turvey Abbey is located in the village of Turvey in the English county of Bedfordshire. It is dated 1605 on the north facade and 1608 on the south facade. The building is stone, with a tile roof. A dovecote, which no longer belongs to the Abbey, is a Grade II listed building.

The Stevington and Turvey Light Railway was a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge light railway on the outskirts of the village of Turvey in Bedfordshire, England. It was about 3⁄4 mile (1.2 km) long. The railway was formed in the early 1980s by former members of The Surrey Light Railway which was based in Hersham, Surrey. The railway was established on the former track bed of the Bedford to Northampton Line. The main signal box on the line was named Needham, and contains a 31 lever Westinghouse 'L' frame which originally came from Battersea Park Signal box. The line closed in 2014, with the operations moving to Woburn.

Cold Brayfield is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority area of the City of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England. It is about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Olney, 8 miles (13 km) west of Bedford, and 10 miles (16 km) north of Central Milton Keynes on the Bedfordshire border. Nearby places are Lavendon and Turvey (over the bridge on the Bedfordshire side of the River Great Ouse). It is in the civil parish of Newton Blossomville. Cold Brayfield is probably the place named as 'Bragenfelda' in a charter of 967. The elements of the name, 'brain' and 'field' are interpreted to mean 'open country on the crown of a hill'. The village name is later recorded in twelfth- and thirteenth-century charters as 'Brauefeld', 'Brawefeld' or 'Brauufeld', and becomes 'Cold Brayfield' towards the end of the sixteenth century. The basis for the prefix 'Cold' is not recorded. The Church of England parish church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin.

Newton Blossomville is a village in the unitary authority area of the City of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England. It is a civil parish, sharing a joint parish council with Clifton Reynes. At the 2011 census, the population of the parish was 329, an increase of 17.5% on the 280 figure for 2001It is located in the north of the Borough, about 2.5 miles (4.0 km) east of Olney, 8 miles (13 km) west of Bedford, and 9 miles (14 km) north-east of Central Milton Keynes, close to the Bucks/Beds border. The village name 'Newton' is an Old English language word meaning 'new village' or 'new homestead'. It was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 under the holdings of Clifton Reynes (Clystone) as not much was left of the original settlement. Called 'Niwetone' when first named independently in 1175, it gained the affix 'Blossevill', referring to the family name of the lords of the manor in the 13th century.

Carlton with Chellington is a civil parish in the historical Hundred of Willey in Bedfordshire, England, and is within the Borough of Bedford. The parish is situated on the South bank of the River Great Ouse, from Harrold, and includes the villages of Carlton and Chellington. The two parishes of Carlton and Chellington were combined in 1934 and until 1974 the parish formed part of Bedford Rural District. Lavendon Castle stood to the north of the village of Lavendon, Buckinghamshire, England. A motte or ringwork and bailey were mentioned in a pipe roll of 1192–3. It was probably built by a member of the Bidun family, and later belonged to the Pevers. The motte was destroyed in 1944 when much 12th-century pottery was found. A farmhouse and garden terracing built in the 17th century have effectively destroyed the former mound and today only earthworks remain.
