Idridgehay railway station

Idridgehay and Alton is a civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. The population of the civil parish taken at the 2011 Census was 275. Its principal settlements are the village of Idridgehay and the hamlets of Alton, Idridgehay Green and Ireton Wood. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway line runs parallel to the parish.

Duffield Frith was, in medieval times, an area of Derbyshire in England, part of that bestowed upon Henry de Ferrers (or Ferrars) by King William, controlled from his seat at Duffield Castle. From 1266 it became part of the Duchy of Lancaster and from 1285 it was a Royal Forest with its own Forest Courts. It extended from Duffield to Wirksworth and from Hulland to Heage. Most of it became the ancient parish of Duffield, which contained the townships of Hazlewood, Holbrook, Makeney and Milford, Shottle, and Windley, and the chapelries of Belper, Heage and Turnditch. The chapelry of Belper – or "Beaureper" – was built by the Duke of Lancaster for the use of the foresters. The area had been noted for centuries for the quantity of deer, mostly fallow, but there was also wild boar. There were also wolves, at least until the end of the thirteenth century.

Admiral Sir Frederick Samuel Inglefield, (29 April 1854 – 8 August 1921) was a Royal Navy officer who served as Fourth Sea Lord, was appointed as a Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown of Italy and commanded auxiliary patrol forces in World War I. After retirement he was a Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire.

All Saints' Church, Turnditch is a Grade II listed parish church in the Church of England: 347  in Turnditch, Derbyshire.

Turnditch is a village and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 Census was 301. It is around 10 miles (16 km) north of Derby on the A517 road from Belper to Ashbourne. It is built on both sides of the road halfway up the steep climb out of the Ecclesbourne Valley. Nearer to the brow of the hill is a place known as Cross o' th' Hands. In Norman times it was within Duffield Frith and part of the manor of Duffield. The Church of All Saints was built in the 13th century as a chapel of ease to Duffield, while a Congregational chapel with a Sunday school was erected in 1818.

Cross o' th' Hands is a small area of settlement in Derbyshire, England, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Derby on the A517 road between Hulland and Turnditch. The settlement is named after its original public house, near a gravel pit used for staging bare-knuckle fist fights, which was probably itself named after the sport.Despite the settlement's small size, it is well connected via public transport, served by two Arriva buses: the 109 and the Swift service between Derby and Ashbourne.Cross o' th' Hands' single through road, Intakes Lane, joins the A517 at the top of the hill, becoming Hillcliff Lane and joining up with the B5023 Wirksworth Road. The top of Hillcliff Lane has views across the open greenlands of Amber Valley.

Alderwasley Hall Sixth Form is an independent special needs Sixth Form Centre located one mile south of Wirksworth in Derbyshire it is part of Alderwasley Hall School, previously a country club named Callow Park after the nearby village of Callow which is about a mile, the site was re-branded to its current name in 2012. The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway runs next to the site.

Ashleyhay (Old English Enclosure at the ash-tree wood or clearing ) is a village and civil parish in the Amber Valley district of Derbyshire, England, about five miles north-west of Belper. It is also situated one and three-quarters of a mile south of Wirksworth and eleven miles north of Derby city centre. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 105, increasing to 118 at the 2011 Census.

Shottle railway station is the second intermediate station on the former Midland Railway branch line to the small town of Wirksworth in Derbyshire. The line is off the Midland Main Line at Duffield railway station, the first being Hazelwood. Shottle Railway station was reopened on 9 August 2014, by the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway.

Cowers Lane is a settlement in Derbyshire bordering Shottle, within the civil parish of Shottle and Postern, near Belper, Derbyshire England along the A517 road. In Norman times, Shottle Park was one of the seven parks within Duffield Frith.It was the site of a large shelter for cattle belonging to the Duchy of Lancaster who owned the Frith. It is generally believed that the name is the local dialect equivalent of "Cow House Lane".

Shottle and Postern is a civil parish within the Amber Valley district, which is in the county of Derbyshire, England. Sparsely built up with much rural expanse, its population was 270 residents in the 2021 census. The parish is 120 miles (190 km) north west of London, 9 miles (14 km) north west of the county town of Derby, and 2+3⁄4 miles (4.4 km) equidistant of the nearest market towns of Belper and Wirksworth. It shares a boundary with the parishes of Alderwasley, Ashleyhay, Belper, Hazelwood, Idridgehay and Alton, Turnditch and Windley.
