Bryn Arw

Pen y Clawdd Castle is a ditched mound with a double moat, roughly circular in shape, with a diameter of approximately 28m to 30m and about 2.4m high. The castle is in Llanvihangel Crucorney, about five miles to the north of Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, in south east Wales and lies between the Usk and Monnow rivers. The mound was designated a scheduled monument in 1950 and described as a defensive medieval motte.

It is a Tudor manor house, which lies within the bailey of what was Penyclawdd Castle, and is thought to date from circa 1625.

Llanvihangel railway station was a former station which served the Monmouthshire village of Llanvihangel Crucorney. It was located on the Welsh Marches Line between Hereford and Abergavenny. The platforms were staggered beneath the road bridge. Station buildings were substantially constructed of stone. Llanvihangel is close to the summit of the Llanvihangel Bank as it climbs north from Abergavenny at a 1 in 82 gradient. The station closed in 1958. The double line remains in use but the platforms have been removed.

Coed-y-Cerrig National Nature Reserve is located at the bottom of a deep valley in the Black Mountains, about 3.7 miles (6.0 km) north of Abergavenny and 2 miles (3.2 km) west of Llanfihangel Crucorney in Wales. Despite its small size, the reserve has a variety of wet and dry woodland habitats, making it rich in wildlife. Its moist valley floor is covered by an unusual type of alder woodland rich in fungi in the autumn.

Gaer is the name of a hill in the Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Monmouthshire, south Wales. It lies at the southern end of the long ridge between the valley of the Grwyne Fawr and the Vale of Ewyas one mile to the north of Bryn Arw and 3 miles northeast of Sugarloaf. Its summit at 427m above sea level sits within an Iron Age hillfort known as Twyn y Gaer.

The A465 provides an alternative route between England and the counties in South West Wales and to the ferries to Ireland.
