Montgomery Street–Columbus Circle Historic District

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse, New York is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Syracuse. It is the seat of the Bishop of Syracuse, currently Douglas Lucia.

The Carnegie Building in Syracuse, New York, previously known as the Syracuse Public Library, is a historic Carnegie library on Montgomery Street at Jefferson Circle in downtown Syracuse. It was built by the City of Syracuse in 1905-06, and came into County of Onondaga ownership in 1976. The building served as a library for 83 years and was the main library of the Syracuse Public Library system, which merged with Onondaga County's library system in 1976 to become the Onondaga County Public Library System. As "Carnegie Library", it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a contributing building in the Montgomery Street–Columbus Circle Historic District in 1980. Following acquisition and renovation by the Carnegie Redevelopment Corp., a local development corporation, the building was leased by the Syracuse city school district for 15 years, from 1996 - 2012 when the school district chose not to renew its lease option. In 2019, after it had sat vacant for eight years, a proposal was floated to renovate it for $4.1 million to hold city and county planning and economic development offices and save on the city's rental costs. The plan was approved in 2021 and work began in 2022, but its current status is unknown as of July 2024.

Columbus Circle is a neighborhood and plaza in the downtown section of Syracuse, New York, United States. At the center of the circle is a large fountain and the Columbus Monument, designed by the Syracuse-born architect Dwight James Baum and dedicated in 1934. Columbus Circle is home to Syracuse's two cathedrals, the Episcopalian St. Paul's Cathedral and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, as well as the Onondaga County Courthouse and the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. The circle, originally known as Library Circle and later as St. Mary's Circle, began as a chiefly residential district. Beginning in the early 20th century it slowly developed as government and commercial buildings were constructed. From 1913 to 1933 the circle played host to the cities annual tree lighting. After the Columbus Monument's dedication in 1934, it was the site of annual memorial services on Columbus Day as well as protests advocating for its removal. In October 2020 the city of Syracuse announced plans to remove the statue of Christopher Columbus and redevelop the circle into "Heritage Park." The removal was halted by a court decision in 2022, which the city successfully appealed.

The Central New York Telephone and Telegraph Building, also known as the Onondaga Historical Association Building, designed by Henry W. Wilkinson, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973, and is part of the Montgomery Street-Columbus Circle Historic District, listed in 1979. It was the first building in Syracuse designed specifically to house the telephone company, and did so from 1899 to 1905, when the company moved to bigger facilities. In 1905, the Onondaga Historical Association purchased the building.

St. Paul's Cathedral in Syracuse, New York was designed by Henry Dudley, who worked with Frank Wills until Wills' early death in 1857.The church is located at 310 Montgomery Street in downtown Syracuse.

The Diocese of Syracuse (Latin: Diœcesis Syracusensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory, or diocese, of the Catholic Church in Upstate New York in the United States. Its episcopal see is located in Syracuse. It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of New York. On June 4, 2019, Pope Francis appointed Douglas Lucia to be the next Bishop of Syracuse. Lucia was consecrated to the episcopacy and installed as bishop on August 8, 2019.

Downtown Syracuse is the economic center of Syracuse, New York, and Central New York, employing over 30,000 people, and housing over 4,300. It is also one of the 26 officially recognized neighborhoods of Syracuse.

Plymouth Congregational Church is located on East Onondaga Street in Syracuse, New York. It was designed in 1858 by Horatio Nelson White in the Romanesque Revival style. The founding congregation was closely associated with the abolitionist movement in Syracuse. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

The Hills Building is a high-rise office building located in Syracuse, New York.

The Equitable Towers, formerly Axa Towers, are two commercial office buildings in Syracuse, New York. The towers were originally named the MONY Towers when they were built by Carrier Corporation, and renamed when Axa acquired the MONY group in 2004. They were renamed Equitable Towers in 2020, after Axa was no longer the majority owner of Equitable. The buildings serve as offices for New York–based Equitable Holdings, and have illuminated logos on top.

Courier Building, also known as the Frazee Block, Cutlery Block, Fire Engineer Block, and Potter Building, is a historic commercial building located in Downtown Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York. It was built in 1844, and is a four-story, trapezoidal shaped, Greek Revival style painted brick building. It was updated in 1918 with Chicago Commercial style design elements when modified for use as a Moose Lodge (1918-1946). The Courier newspaper occupied the building from 1856 to 1905. It was the site of Daniel Webster's 1851 "Syracuse Speech" in which he equated resistance to the Fugitive Slave Law with treason. In response, crowds in the area freed an escaped slave from the custody of federal marshals, galvanizing opposition to slavery in Central New York.: 5, 11–12 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.

South Salina Street Downtown Historic District is a historic district in the United States, representing what was the commercial core of in Syracuse, New York from the mid-nineteenth century to the mid-twentieth century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 16, 2009. The vacancy rate in the district is high, and some buildings need extensive rehabilitation. Recent revitalization plans served as impetus for seeking listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally it included the east side of the 200 block of South Salina Street, the entire 300 block and one building in the 400 block. This area had 22 contributing buildings and 3 non-contributing buildings. Among the contributing properties are two the White Memorial Building and the Loew's State Theater, also individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2014 its boundaries were increased to include some more side streets. Architects represented in the district include Horatio Nelson White, Archimedes Russell, Charles E. Colton, Joseph Lyman Silsbee, Charles D. Wilsey and Thomas W. Lamb.
