Holten railway station

Holten (Dutch Low Saxon: Hooltn) is a village in the municipality of Rijssen-Holten in the Dutch province of Overijssel. Holten is located in a forested area just south of the Holterberg, a 65-metre (210 ft) hill, and is part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. The National Park is the only area in the Netherlands in which the black grouse (in Dutch: korhoen) can be found. This grouse population is on the brink of extinction, so parts of the National Park are closed to the public during its breeding season.

Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is a national park in the Dutch province of Overijssel, located between the townships of Hellendoorn and Holten. In 2004, the Dutch Government changed the status of the area to National Park. The park is mainly managed by Staatsbosbeheer, Natuurmonumenten and the water company Vitens. In addition, several small private owners are involved in the management, as well as regional communities and stakeholders. The National Park is located in its entirety south of the N35 (Zwolle-Almelo), and encapsulates Haarlerberg, Holterberg, Noetselerberg and Koningsbelten. The park covers an area of approximately 35 square kilometres. Its highest point is the Koningsbelt, standing 75 metres above Normaal Amsterdams Peil (NAP).

Verwolde is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It existed between 1818 and 1854, when it was merged with Laren. The area is now a part of Lochem.

De Hegeman is a smock mill operating as a gristmill in the community of Dijkerhoek in the municipality of Rijssen-Holten, Overijssel, in the eastern Netherlands. The mill was built in 1890 using an eight-sided top structure salvaged from a demolished mill in South Holland. It is a rijksmonument (Dutch National heritage site). The construction was commissioned by the widow Klein Baltink-Willemsen, living at the home of Erve Hegeman, after whom the mill was named in 1983. The decline in the use of wind power after World War II lead to a sharp deterioration of the state of the mill. The sail cross was removed for safety reasons, and it was only in 1965 that the mill was restored with the support of the then municipality of Holten. Decline struck again, however, after the mill was transferred from a cooperative to a private individual. In 1978 the municipality of Holten decided to purchase the mill and a second restoration followed in 1981–1982. The mill is now equipped with two pairs of millstones: one pair uses wind power; the other one is powered by a Deutz engine. The arms are 22.40 metres (73 ft 6 in) long and are equipped with the Old Dutch fencing with sails. The mill is operated by volunteers and is used regularly to grind grain; one can purchase items produced in the mill on-site.

Achterhoek (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈax.tər.ˌɦuk]) is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is located in the municipality of Hof van Twente, about 2 km northwest of the village Markelo.Achter is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Markelo. It was first mentioned in 1867 as Achterhoek, and means "far away place". The hamlet consists of about 30 houses. Until 2001, Achterhoek was a part of the municipality of Markelo.

Nijverdal West was a temporary railway station located in Nijverdal, the Netherlands. The station was located on the Zwolle–Almelo railway and opened on 14 December 2009. It closed on 3 March 2013. The services were operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. To improve road and rail routes between Almelo and Zwolle there were many works along the line. As a result of this, temporary station Nijverdal West was opened in December 2009. During its operational period, there was no direct service between Zwolle and Almelo. The services operated as Zwolle - Nijverdal West and Nijverdal - Almelo - Enschede, with a shuttle bus service between Nijverdal West and Nijverdal.

ASV Atletics is a Dutch athletics club based in Nijverdal in the province of Overijssel. It was established in 1986. It has ±260 members. AV Atletics is affiliated to the Netherlands Athletics Federation.

Hellendoorn (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɦɛlə(n)ˈdoːr(ə)n] (listen); Tweants: Heldern or Healndoorn) is a municipality and town in the middle of the Dutch province of Overijssel. As of 2019, the municipality had a population of 35,808. There is an amusement park near the town of Hellendoorn called Avonturenpark Hellendoorn. At the outskirts of the town there is an ice cream factory from Unilever, where Ben & Jerry's is produced for the European market.

Nijverdal (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈnɛi̯vərˌdɑl]) is a town of approximately 25,000 inhabitants in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is the commercial centre of the municipality Hellendoorn. Nijverdal (which means Industrious Valley) was founded in 1836 on the territory of the hamlet Noetsele. It was here that the industrial revolution in the Netherlands took root. Thomas Ainsworth (1795–1841) and Zak Dee Patmore (1799–1838) were two of its founding fathers. Textile production was the focus of industrial activity in Nijverdal, as it was for the rest of the Twente region. Some of the traditional factory buildings in the Art Deco or Jugendstil style still remain. A river called the Regge runs through the town, and is the historical border between the two regions Twente and Salland, and the border of two Dutch dialects, which are Twents and Sallaands, respectively. Every native inhabitant of Nijverdal used to speak either one or both regional dialects but since the 1970's dialect is in decline. Very few inhabitants younger than 30 use any dialect anymore.

Nijverdal is a railway station located in Nijverdal, the Netherlands. The station opened on 1 January 1881 and is located on the Zwolle–Almelo railway. Train services are operated by Keolis Nederland. Previously, this station was called Hellendoorn-Nijverdal(1881-1925) and Nijverdal Noord (1925-1935), to differentiate it from the then main Nijverdal station, located on the former Neede-Hellendoorn railway (1910-1935).In recent years, works have been carried out around Nijverdal station in order to improve road and rail routes between Almelo and Zwolle. Between December 2009 and March 2013, direct services between Zwolle and Almelo were interrupted. Coming from Zwolle, trains terminated at a temporary station Nijverdal West. Shuttle buses transported passengers to Nijverdal station, from where a service to Almelo and Enschede operated.Meanwhile, a new Nijverdal station was constructed. Continuous rail traffic was reinstated on 1 April 2013, serving the new station. The old Nijverdal station was closed, and the temporary station demolished.

Rijssen-Holten (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌrɛisə(n) ˈhɔltə(n)] (listen); Sallaans: Riesn-Hooltn) is a municipality (Dutch: gemeente) in the eastern Netherlands, in the province of Overijssel. The municipality was formed in 2001 by the joining of the municipalities of Holten and Rijssen. The area of Holten belongs to the region of Salland and the area of Rijssen to the region of Twente.

Rijssen (pronounced [ˈrɛisə(n)]; Dutch Low Saxon: Riesn, pronounced [ˈriːsn̩]) is a city in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is part of Rijssen-Holten, one of thirteen municipalities in Twente. It has almost 28,000 inhabitants. The economy of Rijssen relies mostly on commerce and construction and transport companies.
