Verdi Range

Verdi is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sierra County, California. Verdi sits at an elevation of 5,315 feet (1,620 m). The 2010 United States census reported Verdi's population was 162. It is just across the state line from Verdi, Nevada and below the Verdi Range. The town of Verdi was named after Giuseppe Verdi by Charles Crocker, founder of the Central Pacific Railroad, when he pulled a slip of paper from a hat and read the name of the Italian opera composer in 1868.

The 1872 California-Nevada State Boundary Marker marks the initial point for the 1872 survey delineation of the state line between California and Nevada. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The CDP of Verdi, California lies immediately adjacent across the state line. Both are in the shadow of California's Verdi Range. In 2010, the population was 1,415. Prior to 2010, the community was listed by the U.S. Census Bureau as part of the Verdi-Mogul CDP.

Stampede Dam (National ID # CA10192) is a dam in Sierra County, California, impounding the Little Truckee River. The earthen and rock-filled dam was constructed in 1970 (1970), at 239 feet (73 m) high and 1,511 feet (461 m) long at the crest. It was a project of the United States Bureau of Reclamation, not primarily for flood control or irrigation storage as usual, but for fishery enhancement, primarily to facilitate the spawning of the critically endangered species cui-ui fish downstream. The dam is owned and operated by the Bureau. The reservoir it creates, Stampede Reservoir, has a water surface elevation of 5,955 feet (1,815 m) and an area of about 3,340 acres (1,350 ha) and about 25 miles (40 km) of shoreline, with a maximum capacity of 226,500 acre-feet (279,400,000 m3). Recreation includes fishing (for kokanee salmon, rainbow, brook, brown and lake (mackinaw) trout, etc.), hunting, boating, camping and hiking. There is an accessible viewing platform at Stampede Vista Point.

Crystal Peak is a mountain in Sierra County, California. It is located on the south end of the Bald Mountain Range, 3 mi (4.8 km) northeast of Sardine Valley and 16 mi (25.6 km) northwest of Reno, Nevada.

Boomtown Reno is a hotel and casino located in Verdi, Nevada, just west of the Reno–Sparks metropolitan area. The hotel has 318 guest rooms and suites and the casino has a 39,630 square feet (3,682 m2) gaming area.

Verdi-Mogul is a former census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. For the 2010 census it was split into two separate CDPs, Verdi and Mogul. The communities lie on the western side of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area, just off Interstate 80. The population of the combined CDP was 2,949 at the 2000 census.

Floriston is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Nevada County, California. It is situated at an elevation of 5,400 ft (1,600 m) above sea level. Floriston is located on the Truckee River, 10 miles (16.1 km) east-northeast of Truckee. Formerly an important railroad stop and mill town, Floriston survives to this day as a small residential community. The population was 73 at the 2010 census.

Mogul is a census-designated place (CDP) in Washoe County, Nevada, United States. It lies on the western side of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area, just off Interstate 80. The population was 1,290 at the 2010 census. Prior to 2010, the community was part of the Verdi-Mogul CDP.

Boca Dam (National ID No. CA10135) is an earthfill dam and a part of the Truckee Storage Project that encompasses Nevada County, California and Washoe County, Nevada in the United States. Open year-round, it is located at the southern end of Boca Reservoir, 1 mi (2 km) north of Interstate 80, 0.3 mi (480 m) above the confluence of the Little Truckee River and the Truckee River, and 6 mi (9.7 km) northeast of Truckee, California. Reno, Nevada lies 27 mi (43 km) to the east.Boca Dam's area of significance includes agriculture, conservation, and engineering. It is administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, and operated by the Washoe County Water Conservation District. The technical point of contact is the United States District Court Water Master's Office in Reno. The dam's major period of significance was 1925 through 1949.

Boca Reservoir is an artificial lake in Nevada County, California, United States, located in the perimeter covered by Tahoe National Forest. It was created by the construction of Boca Dam across Little Truckee River, approximately 10 km northeast of Truckee. It is located downstream (south) of Stampede Dam and to the east of Prosser Creek Dam and Prosser Creek Reservoir.

Boca (Spanish for "Mouth") is a former settlement in Nevada County, California. Situated at an elevation of 5,528 ft (1,685 m) above sea level, Boca is located on the Southern Pacific Railroad, 6.5 miles (10.5 km) northeast of Truckee.
