Halton railway station (Lancashire)

Lancaster University Boat Club (LUBC) is the rowing club of Lancaster University. The club was founded in 1964 with the inception of the university by Sir Harold Parkinson and is the oldest sports club at the university. The club is based in the old Halton railway station and trains on a 3 km stretch of the River Lune, 3 miles north of Lancaster.

Halton-with-Aughton is a civil parish and electoral ward located 3 miles (5 km) east of Lancaster, England, on the north bank of the River Lune. The main settlement is the village of Halton, or Halton-on-Lune, in the west, and the parish stretches to the hamlet of Aughton in the east. It lies in the City of Lancaster district of Lancashire, and has a population of 2,227, down from 2,360 in 2001.

St Wilfrid's Church is an Anglican church in Halton-on-Lune, a village in the English county of Lancashire. It is an active parish church in the Diocese of Blackburn and the archdeaconry of Lancaster. Halton may have been the site of an ancient Anglo-Saxon minster. Of the current structure, the tower dates from the 16th century and the remainder was built 1876–77 by Paley and Austin. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

HM Prison Lancaster Farms is a category C male prison, located on the outskirts of Lancaster, Lancashire, England. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is part of the HMP North Lancashire and Cumbria Estate (along with HMP Haverigg).

Bulk is an area of Lancaster, Lancashire, England. It was formerly a township and a civil parish. The placename Bulke was recorded in 1346. The manor of Neuton was recorded in this area in the Domesday Book but by 1318 Newton was described as a hamlet within Bulk.The civil parish of Bulk was in Lancaster Rural District until 1900 when most of it (179 houses) was incorporated into the Municipal Borough of Lancaster, with 9 houses going into the civil parish of Quernmore.The population of the civil parish of Bulk was 116 in 1871, 117 in 1881, and 671 in 1891.Bulk lies north of the city centre of Lancaster, and on the same side, the east, of the River Lune. The parish extended along the river to a point south of Halton on the other bank, the boundary then turning south and curving round towards Lancaster. There was a church mission room in Bulk by 1914. The mission's World War I war memorial has been relocated to the redundant St John's Church in Lancaster, and carries the names of 33 men from Bulk district, 30 of whom survived. The 11th Lancaster Scout group was based at the mission in the 1940s.

The Scarthwaite Country House Hotel at Crook O’Lune near Caton in Lancashire is a house of historical significance. It was built in 1858 by Adam Hodgson, a merchant, banker and abolitionist. It was then the home of several notable people over the next century before being converted to a hotel. It still serves as a hotel which provides accommodation, restaurant facilities and caters for special events.

Quernmore Park Hall is a grade II* listed Georgian country house which stands in a 20-acre estate in the village of Quernmore, part of the City of Lancaster district of England. The house consists of a main 3-storey block with set back pavilions at each end. The main block is built of sandstone ashlar with 5 bays on three sides, a hipped slate roof and a central Ionic entrance portico. It has 15 bedrooms and 4 reception rooms.

The Crook o' Lune or Crook of Lune, about three miles north-east of Lancaster, Lancashire, is a horseshoe bend of the River Lune, which here meanders through meadows and low hills into a wooded gorge. It has long been noted for its views eastward up the Lune valley to Hornby Castle and, in the far distance, Ingleborough and other Pennine fells. It was painted by J. M. W. Turner and its scenic attractions were celebrated by such writers as Thomas Gray and William Wordsworth. In recent years the Sunday Times has claimed that it "rivals the beauty of the Lake District". It lies within the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Lune Millennium Park. The river is crossed here by two former railway viaducts (now pedestrian bridges) and one road bridge, all being Grade II listed buildings. The Lancashire Crook o' Lune is not to be confused with the Crook of Lune near Lowgill in Cumbria, a similar bend of the same river.

Lancaster Moor Hospital, formerly the Lancaster County Lunatic Asylum and Lancaster County Mental Hospital, was a mental hospital in Lancaster, Lancashire, England, which closed in 2000 (the mental health departments left in 1991, but others remained).

The War Memorial, Lancaster Cemetery, was built to commemorate those lost in the Crimean War. It was erected in 1860, and designed by the local architect E. G. Paley. Its estimated cost was £120–140, but Paley made no charge for it. The monument is constructed in carboniferous limestone and consists of an obelisk on three steps. Its inscriptions include the names of the local men who died in the war. The obelisk stands 34 feet (10 m) high. The monument is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building.

The Lancaster power stations provided electricity to the Lancashire town and city of Lancaster and the surrounding area from 1894 to 1976. The first power station was built and operated by Lancaster Corporation and started generating electricity in April 1894. The second power station was built during the First World War near the Lune Aqueduct to provide electric power for a munitions factory. When the factory closed after the war the power station was purchased by the corporation to provide electric power throughout its supply area.
