Canaanville, Ohio

The Savage-Stewart House is one of the oldest buildings in Athens County, Ohio, United States. Located a short distance southeast of Canaanville along U.S. Route 50, it features many architectural details typical of expensive buildings constructed in early Ohio, and it has been named a historic site.Also known as the "Ackley Farm", the farm includes buildings constructed as early as 1804. The land comprising the farm was given to Abijah Savage, a Continental Army captain from Connecticut, as compensation for his military service in the American Revolution. Throughout the history of the farm, its owners have generally been more prosperous than many of their neighbors, due to the property's location along the rich bottoms of the Hocking River.Two stories tall and built of brick on foundations of sandstone, the house features elements such as an ornamental balustrade along the staircase in the hallway, a cornice with sawtooth-shaped molding, and fluted columns. Although the house falls into no distinct architectural style, these and related elements are typical of more expensive buildings constructed in Ohio soon after statehood.In 1980, the house and five outbuildings were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying both because of their place in the area's history and because of their distinctive historic architecture. Although the house has largely been abandoned and overgrown, it was deemed historic partially because of the presence of antique farm equipment manufactured before 1930, which at that time was still secure in some of the farm's sheds.

Strouds Run State Park is a public recreation area abutting the city of Athens in Athens County, Ohio, in the United States. The state park is located primarily in Canaan Township, with a small part in Ames Township. Park boundaries coincide with Athens city limits in several places. The park comprises 2,606 acres (1,055 ha), and includes Dow Lake, a 161-acre (65 ha) artificial lake. The park is named after William Stroud who was a share-holder in the Ohio Company of Associates.

It has a post office with the ZIP code 45735.The town is located on the Hocking River at the junction of U.S. Route 50 and State Route 329. Guysville was laid out in 1836. A post office has been in operation at Guysville since 1838. The community was named for Guy Barrows, first postmaster.

The Strouds Ridge Preserve is a project of Athens, Ohio, to create a greenbelt buffer and trail system on the outskirts of the city. This effort began in 2002, and has so far involved five parcels of land, for a total of 333-acre (135-hectare), in three discontinuous tracts. All these properties, which include the pre-existing 22-acre (89,000 m2) Sells Park, are contiguous with Strouds Run State Park.

The Athens Skate Park is, as the name states, a skatepark located in Athens, Ohio, behind the Athens Recreational Center (known simply as "The Rec Center" to locals.) The park was at one time the only skatepark in the world to feature a capsule (a full pipe connected to a cradle). The park was built by Grindline Skateparks in 2003 and is the second-largest concrete skatepark in Ohio behind the Kettering street Plaza. The park features both cement and concrete coping. It has ramps of all sizes and many unique spots. The park is a work in progress. After a set of years, they stopped adding on to the skatepark, leaving how it is to this day. During the summer of 2005 a stage was built and with the insertion of electricity in January 2006 bands can play the stage and events can proceed with ease. The skatepark is located 40 minutes from the Skatopia in Rutland, Ohio.

Hawk Woods is an old-growth forest located in central Athens County, Ohio, United States, outside the city of Athens. The forest comprises 106 acres (0.43 km2) of foothills in the Allegheny Plateau region. Adjacent to Strouds Run State Park, the woods now are included in a state nature preserve named the Dale & Jackie Riddle State Nature Preserve.

Sells Park, popularly known as Athens Pond, is a public park near Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Claimed to be "one of Athens’s best hidden treasures", it comprises 22.5 acres (91,000 m2), and includes Sells Pond (Athens Pond) which is composed of an area of 1,876 square yards (1,569 m2).
