Solheimsviken

The Bergen Region is a statistical metropolitan region in the county of Hordaland in Norway. It is centered on the city of Bergen.

The Nygård Bridge (Norwegian: Nygårdsbroen) is a series of parallel bridges that cross Strømmen, the sound entering Store Lungegårdsvannet, in Bergen, Norway. The Old Nygård Bridge dates from 1854 and carries the two tracks of the Bergen Light Rail as well as pedestrians and cyclists. The New Nygård Bridge opened in 1978, and carries six lanes of European Route E39. The New Nygård Bridge II, built in 2008, carries the two lanes of the street Nygårdsgaten.The old bridge was opened in 1854 as a pedestrian and vehicle bridge. From 1884 to 1913, it carried the Voss Line of the Norwegian State Railways, and later a line of the Bergen Tramway when Line 1 was extended in 1919, until it was closed down in 1963. In 1938, it was made twice the width. In 2008, the old bridge was rebuilt to carry the Bergen Light Rail, while the street was moved to a new bridge, the New Nygård Bridge II.

Danmarks plass is a square in Årstad borough in the city of Bergen, Norway. Today most famous as one of Norway's busiest road intersections, it was originally known as "Kronstadtorget". After World War II, it received its current name in honour of Denmark's humanitarian efforts in Norway during the war. "Danmarks plass" is commonly used also to describe the immediate surroundings of the square, e.g. Krohnsminde kunstgressbane. Danmarks plass has more air pollution than anywhere else in Bergen, caused by the traffic as well as its location between two hills.On an average, more than 60,000 vehicles pass through the at-grade intersection at Danmarksplass every day. European route E39, the main road into Bergen from both the south and the north, runs through Danmarksplass. Located near the city centre, Danmarksplass is a major thoroughfare for the tens of thousands of people who daily commute to work in the city centre or other boroughs. The Bergen Light Rail line passes through Danmarksplass. The construction of the light rail line and stations, which was started in early 2008, lead to the closure of several lanes. Ibsens gate, the eastern arm of the intersection, was closed in August the same year.

Solheim Church (Norwegian: Solheim kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Solheimsviken neighborhood in the city of Bergen. It is one of the two churches for the Løvstakksiden parish which is part of the Bergensdalen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, concrete church was built in a long church design in 1956 using plans drawn up by the architect Peter Andersen. The church seats about 330 people.

Nygårdstangen is a small peninsula on the southeastern end of the city center of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The neighborhood borders the Store Lungegårdsvann bay. Most of the peninsula is occupied by an interchange. It is the meeting place of E16, E39, and National Road 555. To the northeast, the Fløyfjell Tunnel, where E16 and E39 run commonly, mouthes out into interchange, as does E39 from the south via the Nygård Bridge. To the west, 555 terminates at the intersection, arriving via the Nygård Tunnel. The interchange also allows access to the city center via Fjøsangerveien. Also located at Nygårdstangen is Bergen Fire Station and one campus of the Bergen University College.

The Geophysical Institute, University of Bergen (Norwegian: Geofysisk institutt) is a marine research facility located in Bergen, Norway. Founded in 1917 by Bjørn Helland-Hansen, the institute studies the field of oceanography dealing with the patterns of the weather in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Norway. Within recent years, focus has been increasingly on geophysics and environmental research. The research activities at the institute span from small scale measurement of turbulence up to studies of the large scale ocean currents, from local air and noise pollution up to studies of global scale climate change. Areas of research focus on the Norwegian Current, the West Spitsbergen Current and the Norwegian Sea. Shifts and fluctuations in these currents are monitored, as they are thought to be indicators for climate change. Research has included CO2 sequestration and related matters dealing with Carbon capture and storage. Since 2020 Tor Eldevik is the director of the institute. Previous directors were amongst others Dr. Peter M. Haugan, Nils Gunnar Kvamstø and Øystein Hov. The Bergen School of Meteorology, which led to modern weather forecasting, was developed at the Geophysical Institute by Vilhelm Bjerknes and collaborators (including Carl-Gustaf Rossby) beginning in 1917.

Krohnsminde kunstgressbane is a municipality-owned sports ground and football stadium located in the city of Bergen, Norway, near Danmarks plass in the borough of Årstad. It was the home of the football club Løv-Ham until 2008. The western terrace of Krohnsminde kunstgressbane was demolished in November/December 2008 to make room for a new hospital building.The terrace was designed by the architect Ole Landmark and finished in 1947. The venue has hosted the Norwegian Athletics Championships in 1950, 1957 and 1961. In the 1991 season, it hosted the 11 home matches for Fyllingen in the Norwegian Premier League.

Nygårdsparken is a public park located in the city centre of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. It is located between the neighbourhoods of Nygård and Møhlenpris. Covering 74.2 decares (18.3 acres), Nygårdsparken is the largest urban park in Bergen.

Løvstakksiden, commonly shortened to Løvstakken or simply Stakken, is a neighbourhood in the city of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. Currently it is part of the borough of Årstad, but before 2000 it was part of a borough called "Løvstakken" which covered the eastern and western sides of the mountain Løvstakken, consisting of Fyllingsdalen in the west and Løvstakksiden in the east.Although the neighbourhood has no official boundaries, it can be said to cover the urban area to the northeast of the mountain Løvstakken, or parts of western Årstad. Løvstakksiden is not considered a "traditional" neighbourhood of Bergen, because it is located outside the core borough of Bergenhus. However it remains inside Bergen's urban area, in the borough of Årstad. Løvstakksiden is also a local parish in Bergen with two churches, Solheim Church and St. Markus Church.

Saint James's Church (Norwegian: Sankt Jakob kirke) is a special parish church in Bergen municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It is located in the Nygård area of the city of Bergen. The church is part of Bergen Cathedral parish in the Bergen domprosti (arch-deanery) in the Diocese of Bjørgvin. The white, plastered brick church was built in a long church design in 1921 using plans drawn up by the architect Daniel Muri. The church, which seats about 550 people, was consecrated on 5 May 1921.

The Natural Science Building (Norwegian: Realfagbygget) is located in Allégaten 41 at Nygårdshøyden in Bergen, right next to Nygårdsparken. The building is a part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Bergen. The building was drawn by architect Harald Ramm Østgård, and built between 1963 and 1977. The Sciences Building is one of Norway's largest buildings with 47000 square meters usable area. The building is considered one of the best examples of brutalistic architecture in Bergen.

Store Lungegårdsvannet is a bay located in the city and municipality of Bergen in Vestland county, Norway. The bay separates the city centre, located in the borough of Bergenhus, from the southern boroughs of the city, Årstad, Fana and Ytrebygda. The bay is situated at the end of the Puddefjorden.
