Basildon

Fryerns Comprehensive School , also known as Fryerns Community School, was a mixed intake secondary school in Basildon, Essex that opened in 1956. The school was situated around one mile directly east of Basildon town centre. It was closed in 1999 due to falling pupil numbers. The site is now home to both Essex County Council's Adult Community Learning service and Social Services, while the remaining site has been redeveloped into two housing estates.

The Barstable School was a mixed intake secondary school in Basildon, Essex. It closed in 2009 to become a founding member of the Basildon Academies.

Basildon United Football Club is a football club based in Basildon, Essex. They are currently members of the Isthmian League North Division and play at Gardiners Close.

Pitsea is a small town and former civil parish, now in the unparished area of Basildon, in south Essex, England. It comprises five sub-districts: Eversley, Northlands Park Neighbourhood (previously known as Felmores), Chalvedon, Pitsea Mount and Burnt Mills. It is part of the new town of Basildon. In 1931 the parish had a population of 3414.During the creation of the new town of Basildon in the late 1940s and early 1950s, "Pitsea", "Vange" and "Laindon" were considered as possible names for the new town. As Basildon village was central to the district, the town was eventually named "Basildon". Before the new town regeneration, Pitsea itself was made up of unbuilt plot lands and was regarded as underdeveloped and run down. The Cinema Museum in London holds extensive home movies from the Jefree family of Pitsea in the 50's. Ref HMO353

Chalvedon School and 6th Form College was a Specialist Technology College in Pitsea, Essex, England. It was a comprehensive school educating pupils aged between 11 and 18 years of age. Chalvedon had over 1800 pupils on roll including 196 sixth formers. The school was first opened in 1966 and operated on the same site until its formal closure. Mr A S Roach became the Principal of the school in 1988. In January 2006 Chalvedon School federated with another local comprehensive school, Barstable School, to form The Federation of Chalvedon School and Sixth Form College and Barstable School. In 2009 the school formally closed with pupils transferring to the newly created Basildon Academies, who use the former site for the Upper Academy.

Vange Hill is an 11.5 hectare Local Nature Reserve in Vange, a suburb of Basildon in Essex. It is owned and managed by Basildon Borough Council.The site has grassland and scrub woodland, surrounded by a drainage ditch. Some meadow areas are closely mown, but others are only cut annually, allowing flowers to grow provide food for bumblebees and butterflies. There are unusual plants such as Pale Flax.There is access from Vange Hill Drive.

Dale Farm is a plot of land situated on Oak Lane in Crays Hill, Essex, United Kingdom. Until October 2011, it was the site of one of the largest Traveller concentrations in the UK, at its height housing over 1,000 people, along with the adjacent Oak Land site. Although Basildon District Council had granted permission for the site to be used by a small number of Traveller families, no planning permission was given for the expansion of the site into land located within the Green Belt.The establishment of the illegal plots led to Basildon District Council conducting a ten-year legal battle in the High Court to gain a clearance order to evict the Travellers from Dale Farm. The decision to bring in police officers to remove some activists and residents from the site and give safe access to the contracted bailiffs gained international press coverage, with the overall eviction costing the council £4.8 million.

Basildon Urban District (from 1934 to 1955 Billericay Urban District) was a local government district in south Essex, England from 1934 to 1974. The district was created in 1934 from the following parishes (all from Billericay Rural District): Basildon Bowers Gifford Great Burstead Laindon Lee Chapel Little Burstead (until 1938, to Thurrock Urban District) Nevendon North Benfleet Pitsea Vange WickfordIt also gained 1,282 acres (5 km2) from Chelmsford Rural District and 1,627 acres (7 km2) from Orsett Rural District. In 1937 all the parishes were abolished and used to create a Billericay parish which occupied the same area as the district. In 1955 the district was renamed Basildon, still consisting of the Billericay parish.

De La Salle School is a Roman Catholic voluntary aided school located in Basildon, Essex for boys and girls aged 11 to 16, in the Trusteeship of the La Sallian Brothers, and within the Diocese of Brentwood.

Ramsden Crays is a civil parish in the Basildon district of Essex, England. It lies north of Basildon and west of Wickford. The parish includes the village of Crays Hill and is located north of the A127. The River Crouch runs through the parish. The 2011 census records that there were 862 males and 976 females living in the parish.

Pitsea railway station is on the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the small town of Pitsea in the borough of Basildon, Essex. It is situated at a junction where a loop via Grays re-joins the main line via Basildon. Down the main line it is 26 miles 42 chains (42.7 km) from London Fenchurch Street; via the loop it is 32 miles 37 chains (52.2 km) from Fenchurch Street. Its three-letter station code is PSE. It was originally opened in 1855 by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway but was replaced by a new station on an adjacent site in 1888 when the line from Barking to Upminster fully opened. The station was renamed Pitsea for Vange in 1932, but reverted to the original name Pitsea in 1952.The station and all trains serving it are currently operated by c2c.
