Ballechin distillery

Ballechin House was a Georgian estate home near Grandtully, Perthshire, Scotland. It was built in 1806, on the site of an old manor house which had been owned by the Steuart family since the 15th century. This house, which stands in Ballechin Wood, is the subject for a popular local ghostlore story.

Atholl or Athole (Scottish Gaelic: Athall; Old Gaelic Athfhotla) is a large historical division in the Scottish Highlands, bordering (in anti-clockwise order, from Northeast) Marr, Badenoch, Lochaber, Breadalbane, Strathearn, Perth, and Gowrie. Historically it was a Pictish kingdom, becoming one of the original provinces of the Kingdom of Alba before being incorporated into the sheriffdom and later county of Perthshire. Today it forms the northern part of Perth and Kinross, Scotland.

Grandtully Castle is an historic building in Grandtully, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building dating to 1560. An earlier castle stood around 1 mile (1.5 kilometres) east and dates from 1414; only its foundations remain.The current castle consists of a Z-plan three-storey towerhouse of 1560, extended in 1626 to create a fortified house. In the calmer world of the 19th century, extensive additions were made in the 1890s in the Scots Baronial style by Leadbetter & Fairley.The lands and castle belonged to the Stewart family from the 14th century, Thomas Stewart of Grandtully being mentioned in 1587. The castle was used by the Earl of Mar in the Jacobite Rising of 1715 and by Bonnie Prince Charlie in the 1745 rebellion.In the early 1860s, the estate was rented by Duleep Singh, the last Maharaja of the Sikh Empire, known as the Black Prince of Perthshire. He had previously lived at nearby Castle Menzies. The property was modernised internally in the 1920s. It is now divided into flats. The castle is said to be the basis of Tully-Veolan, the ancestral home of the Baron of Bradwardine in Sir Walter Scott's novel Waverley.

Linn of Tummel is a 19-hectare (47-acre) woodland property at the confluence of the rivers Garry and Tummel, near Pitlochry in Perthshire, Scotland. It is owned and maintained by the National Trust for Scotland, and is adjacent to the Trust's property at Killiecrankie. The name Linn of Tummel comes from the Scots Gaelic and means "pool of tumbling stream". The name comes from the fact that the River Tummel used to drop down over a fall to meet the River Garry; however, in 1950 the fall ceased when a new hydro-electric plant raised the level of both rivers and created Loch Faskally. In 1910, an early fish pass was blasted through the rock on the northern bank, to allow spawning fish to more easily bypass the falls; however it became obsolete when the Tummel hydro-electric power scheme was built.The property includes a network of more than 30 miles (48 km) of footpaths, amongst which is an obelisk commemorating the visit of Queen Victoria in 1844. The wildlife include pine martens and otters, while the flora includes pearl-bordered fritillary and lily of the valley.The National Trust for Scotland have owned the Linn since 1944, when it was given to them by Dr George Freeland Barbour of Bonskeid.
