Almelo (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɑlməloː] (listen)) is a municipality and a city in the eastern Netherlands. The main population centres in the town are Aadorp, Almelo, Mariaparochie, and Bornerbroek. Almelo has about 72,000 inhabitants in the middle of the rolling countryside of Twente, with the industrial centres of Enschede and Hengelo as close neighbours but also with tourist towns like Ootmarsum, Delden and Markelo only a bicycle ride away. Almelo received city rights in 1394. Within the city limits lies the castle of the Counts of Almelo. Located in the city centre is Huize Almelo, a castle that in its current form dates back to 1662 (This castle is not open to the public). There are mosaics which decorate the walls of the tunnel close to the railway station. The city is also known for its local association football club Heracles Almelo, which plays in the Eredivisie, the highest football league in the Netherlands. The club uses the Erve Asito.

Stad Almelo is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It consisted of the city of Almelo. It existed from 1818 to 1914, when it merged with the municipality of Ambt Almelo, which covered the surrounding countryside.

De Hoop is a gristmill in Almelo, Netherlands. The mill was built in 1870 with use of a demolished mill from 1797 and was rebuilt after a fire in 1910.

Erve Asito, formerly the Polman Stadion, is a multi-use stadium in Almelo, Netherlands. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 12.080 spectators and was built in 1999. It is the official stadium of Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo. Its pitch is made from artificial turf. The stadium was opened on 10 September 1999 followed by the opening match against FC Zwolle. Heracles player Job ten Thije scored the first goal in the Polman Stadium. In 2005 the capacity of the stadium was expanded from 6,900 to 8,500 seats of which 400 are available for the supporters of the visiting team. In 2015 the capacity was expanded to 12,080 seats.On 1 July 2019, the name of the stadium was changed to Erve Asito as part of a 10-year sponsorship agreement.

Ambt Almelo is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It covered the area around the city centre of Almelo. In 1913, the municipality was merged with the municipality of Almelo.

Almelo is a railway station in Almelo, Netherlands. The station was opened on 18 October 1865 and is on the Deventer–Almelo railway, Almelo–Salzbergen railway, Zwolle–Almelo railway and Mariënberg–Almelo railway lines. The current station building dates from 1962. The train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen and Arriva.

Bornerbroek (Dutch pronunciation: [bɔrnərˈbruk]) is a church village in the municipality of Almelo in Twente, the Dutch province of Overijssel. Up to the municipal reorganisation of 1 January 2001, the village was part of the municipality of Borne.

Aadorp is a village on the northern side of Almelo, Netherlands with a population of about 1500; it has been part of the Almelo municipality since 2001. The villagers of Aadorp are very close, since there are so few of them. The central meeting point in Aadorp is the Aahoes, which consists of a meeting hall, and a small barbershop. Also, Aadorp has recreation areas including soccer fields and more. For anything else Aadorp villagers must go to one of the neighbouring towns.

Mariaparochie [ma'riaːpaˌrɔxi] is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. The greater part of it belongs to the municipality of Tubbergen while a small part, with the local church, belongs to Almelo. Mariaparochie lies about 4 km northeast of Almelo. In 1918, the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church was built and enlarged in 1923. In 1936, there was a settlement around the church. The village is twinned with Harbrinkhoek, but both still have separate place name signs, statistical entries and postal codes.

Zenderen is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Borne, and lies about 6 km southeast of Almelo.

Harbrinkhoek (Tweants: Haarbig) is a village in the Dutch province of Overijssel. It is a part of the municipality of Tubbergen, and lies about 5 km northeast of Almelo. It was first mentioned in 1844 as Harbrink, and means "settlement of the people of Harbert (person)". In the 1950s, the hamlet turned into a little village. The village is twinned with Mariaparochie, but both still have separate place name signs, statistical entries and postal codes.

Azelo (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈaː.zəˌloː]; Tweants: Oazel(e)) is a hamlet in the municipalities of Hof van Twente, Borne, and Almelo in the province of Overijssel in the Netherlands. It is located between Borne, Bornerbroek, and Delden and has approximately 250 inhabitants. Until January 1, 2001, Azelo belonged largely to the municipality of Ambt Delden. The hamlet is particularly known for the Azelo junction, where the A1 motorway and the A35 motorway meet. The Azelerbeek flows east of the center of Azelo. The hamlet was first attested as Aselo in 1333. The name is likely a compound of Old Dutch Aso (a personal name) and lo ("light forest"). Azelo used to be a hamlet and marke in the richterambt of Delden. The erfmarkenrichterschap of marke Azelo was originally located on the Hof van Azelo, the current farms of Have and Meijer. After Twickel bought the markenrichterschap in the seventeenth century, the meetings were usually kept on the Graes farm. The manor of Dubbelink used to be located in the hamlet of Azelo. A remnant of this is the so-called Meistershoes ('Master's House') on the Meijerinkveldkampsweg. The old Dubbelink bakehouse also still exists. A large number of the farms in Azelo, including Graes, Grave, Morskate, and the farms on Dubbelink, belong to the Twickel estate. The hamlet's area has a large spread size, and is located in three different municipalities. This is mainly due to a boundary correction during the 2001 reorganization, in which the municipal boundaries were located along the A1 motorway. Because of this, a third of the hamlet is partly in the municipality of Borne and partly in the municipality of Almelo. The vast majority, however, is located in the municipality of Hof van Twente, which is also indicated on the place name sign of the hamlet.
