Wycoller Hall

Wycoller is a village in the civil parish of Trawden Forest in Pendle, Lancashire, England. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Colne, near to the junction of the Lancashire, West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire borders. The village may date back to the 10th century BC. Central to the village are the ruins of 16th-century Wycoller Hall. The village is a conservation area, and is closed to outside traffic. There is a car park on Trawden Road and another on the east side of the village opposite Height Laithe Farm on the road towards Haworth in Yorkshire. The name is probably from the Old English wīc "dairy farm" and alr "alder", so means "dairy farm by the alders".

Wycoller Beck is a stream in Lancashire, running through Wycoller Country Park and the village of Wycoller in Pendle. It is 3.76 miles (6.05 km) long and has a catchment area of 4.04 square miles (10.46 km2).The river joins the River Laneshaw at Covey Bridge near Laneshaw Bridge to form Colne Water.Seven bridges cross Wycoller Beck. The Pack-Horse Bridge is probably the most important, being built some 800 years ago and reconstructed over the centuries. Clam Bridge, more than 1000 years old is listed as an Ancient Monument. It was repaired in 1991, after being cracked in two in 1989 and 1990.

Emmott Hall was a country house in the village of Laneshawbridge, Colne, Lancashire, England. It stood on high ground two and a half miles east of Colne near the junction of the River Laneshaw and the Hullown Beck, facing south towards the Wycoller Valley. The main part of the house consisted of two-storey west and north wings built in the 16th or early 17th century, which had been re-fronted in ashlar stone, together with other alterations, in the 18th century. Within the grounds of the hall was the Hullown Well or Saint's Well, a square stone structure, probably a baptismal pool, with dressed stonework measuring 18 feet long by 16 feet wide and 10 feet deep with 14 steps descending into the water. Although in poor condition, it can still be viewed. A 7 foot high medieval cross-shaft, (the Emmott Cross or Touchcross) used to stand close to the well, but was moved to Colne churchyard when the hall was demolished.

The River Laneshaw is a river in Northern England. It runs for 1.9 miles (3 km) from Laneshaw Reservoir to Laneshaw Bridge alongside the A6068 road and has a catchment area of 5.1 square miles (13.2 km2).Rising as Laneshaw Brook on Combe Hill between the border of Lancashire and Yorkshire, the brook runs northwards, feeding first Laneshaw Reservoir then running westwards as the River Laneshaw.The River Laneshaw combines with Wycoller Beck at Covey Bridge to form Colne Water.

Laneshawbridge (otherwise Laneshaw Bridge) is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Pendle in England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 918. It is to the east of Colne in Lancashire and is the easternmost settlement in Lancashire on the main road route, before the North Yorkshire border. The roots of Laneshawbridge, or “The Brig” as it is affectionately known by the locals, date from the time of William the Conqueror, when he gave some land to the Emmott family, which they still own. It is thought that the family were given land for their military support, and founded a hamlet known as “Eamot” which later became Laneshawbridge. The family resided at Emmott Hall, the first of which dated back to 1310, but it was to be modified, rebuilt and finally demolished in 1967. Near to where the hall stood is Emmott House, which was a coach house to the main hall and dates back to 1737. In the 1990s, the old boating lake was dug out to create Hullow'n Fishery, and this is run by the Choyce family for sporting purposes. Next to the lake is Hullow'n Well which has its own history. It has been claimed that this the Eamot where in AD 926 King Athelstan confirmed a treaty of peace between the Welsh, Scots and Northumbrians.The Emmotts owned much of the village, and provided a school, as well as St Andrew's Church, both of which are now residential properties.It would also appear that the family had a public house which was probably used as a shooting lodge. The first village inn, possibly called "the Rochester" is rumoured to be what is today Rye Flatt Farmhouse which has been restored as the village's only bed and breakfast. In the centre of the village stands the Emmott Arms public house. A trip up Emmott Lane will take you past the village park, around which the village is built, to the Alma Inn. The village of Trawden is 2 miles (3 km) to the south west and the historic village of Wycoller is 2 miles (3 km) to the south. The civil parish was created in 1992, from part of the Unparished area that before 1974 had been the Municipal Borough of Colne.

Trawden Brook is a minor river in Lancashire, England. It is 3.48 miles (5.6 km) long and has a catchment area of 4.40 square miles (11.4 km2).Rising on Red Spa Moor as Will Moor Clough, the river becomes Trawden Brook after the confluence with Round Hole Beck at Tongue End. Shortly after it collects the stream from Lumb Spout waterfall and runs on past Hollin Hall to enter the village of Trawden at the Bottoms Bridge where it is met by Beardshaw Beck. It then continues north flowing into Colne Water next to Trawden Road Bridge in Cottontree near Colne.The name possibly originates from a contraction of the Old English words trog (trough) and denu (valley), an appropriate name for the river valley. Brook (OE broc) is a common name for a stream, most often found in southern and central England.

Trawden is a village in the Trawden Forest parish of Pendle, at the foot of Boulsworth Hill, in Lancashire, England. The village co-operatively owns and runs its library, shop, community centre and pub.

Boulsworth Hill is a large expanse of moorland, the highest point of the South Pennines of south-eastern Lancashire, England, separating the Borough of Pendle from Calderdale. Its summit, Lad Law, is 1,696 ft (517 m) above sea level, and commands views over Pendle Hill, the Forest of Bowland, the Yorkshire Dales and the South Pennines. On an exceptionally clear day it is possible to see Scafell Pike and Helvellyn to the north, Ferrybridge power station to the east, High Peak to the south and the Big One roller coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach to the west. The Brontë Way and the Pendle Way both pass along the slopes of Boulsworth Hill, providing routes of ascent from Nelson and Wycoller. A further possibility is to climb from Trawden, the nearest town to the summit, and it was originally intended that Boulsworth Hill would be a highlight of the Pennine Way, which instead passes to the east of the hill. Following the CRoW Act, Boulsworth Hill can now also be legally climbed from the Yorkshire side, near Hebden Bridge.The underlying rock is Millstone Grit, which is seen outcropping in several places and forming a steep scarp face along the summit. The hill is covered by acidic grassland, which provide a valuable breeding ground for red grouse, twite, golden plover and other birds. It lies just inside Lancashire, although the county boundary with the West Yorkshire district of Calderdale passes just a mile to the southeast of Lad Law.

Trawden Forest is a civil parish in the Pendle district of Lancashire, England. It has a population of 2,765, and contains the village of Trawden (formerly called Beardshaw) and the hamlets of Cottontree, Winewall and Wycoller. Boulsworth Hill is a well known local landmark situated within the parish. It takes its name from a medieval royal forest or "chase" which was in the same area. Trawden was once a township in the ancient parish of Whalley. This became a civil parish in 1866, forming an urban district from 1894.The parish adjoins the Pendle parishes of Nelson, Colne and Laneshaw Bridge, the Burnley parish of Briercliffe and West Yorkshire. According to the United Kingdom Census 2011, the parish has a population of 2,765, an increase from 2,580 in the 2001 census.

Cottontree and Winewall are two hamlets situated in the civil parish of Trawden Forest in Pendle, Lancashire. They are adjacent to one other and located between the towns of Colne and Trawden. Cottontree is generally situated in the valley along the road that connects the two towns. Winewall is generally on the hillside overlooking Cottontree. The road that runs between Cottontree and Winewall connects to Laneshaw Bridge, Wycoller and is an alternative route to Trawden. Until 2001 Winewall had one of England's last Inghamite chapels.

Noyna Hill (sometimes just called "Noyna" or "Noyna Rock/s") is a hill in the Pennines hills range in Pendle, Lancashire, England. It is located a mile to the east of Foulridge and it is possible to see other local towns such as Colne, Nelson, Trawden, Barnoldswick and Earby. On a clear day most of Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales are seen from here. Although the prominence is not that great due to the close proximity of other hills, it is unique in the area for having a large wide, but not very high rocky outcrop that is distinctive and well known in the area. The hill is 122m, (400 ft) above the village of Foulridge. The hill is on farmland, but has public footpaths that allow access.

Kelbrook is a village in the civil parish of Kelbrook and Sough, Borough of Pendle, in Lancashire, England. It lies on the A56 road between Colne and Earby. Historically a part of the now divided old parish of Thornton-in-Craven in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Kelbrook was administered as part of Skipton Rural District, until boundary changes in 1974. Kelbrook lies in West Craven, so keeping cultural links with Yorkshire and Craven. Kelbrook School is in the centre of the village. The tallest building in the village is the village church, St Mary's. Other local towns and villages are Barnoldswick (2 miles/3.2 km northwest), Earby (1 mile/1.6 km north), Salterforth (1 mile/1.6 km northwest), Thornton in Craven {2 miles/3.2 km north), Foulridge (2 miles/3.2 km south) and Colne (3.5 miles/5.6 km south). Elisabeth Beresford, the creator of the Wombles, wrote much of the second Wombles book, The Wandering Wombles, whilst staying in a cottage on Dotcliffe Road in 1970. The Kelbrook and Sough Wombles, a local litter-picking group, is named in tribute to this connection. Edward Woodward lived in Kelbrook for six weeks in 1973 whilst preparing for his role in The Wicker Man. The residents of Kelbrook are affectionately called Kelbricks. During a wedding it is tradition for young residents of the village to lock the church gates and demand money from the bride and groom. A more recent custom is to make scarecrows of literary characters from children's books and to race ducks on Kelbrook Beck.
