Pilatus, also often referred to as Mount Pilatus, is a mountain massif overlooking Lucerne in Central Switzerland. It is composed of several peaks, of which the highest (2,128.5 m [6,983 ft]) is named Tomlishorn.

The Mittaggüpfi (also known as Gnepfstein) is a mountain of the Emmental Alps, located west of the mountain of Pilatus on the border between the Swiss cantons of Lucerne and Obwalden.

Alpnachstad PB railway station (German: Bahnhof Alpnachstad PB) is a railway station in the municipality of Alpnach, in the Swiss canton of Obwalden. It is the base station of the Pilatus Railway rack railway that ascends near the summit of Pilatus. The station is located across the street from the Alpnachstad station of Zentralbahn on the Brünig line.

The Rengg Pass (locally known as Ränggpass) is a walking trail mountain pass in Switzerland, between Hergiswil in the canton of Nidwalden and Alpnach in the canton of Obwalden. It crosses the ridge running eastwards from the Pilatus towards Stanstaad. It was the site of the Stecklikrieg battle on 28 August 1802, where insurgent Nidwaldeners defeated Swiss central government troops.

The A8 motorway, an Autobahn in central Switzerland, is a divided highway connecting the Bernese Oberland and the Innerschweiz. It is part of the National Road N8. For the Canton of Obwalden, it is the lifeline that has allowed the settling of industrial firms in this historically predominantly agricultural region. Via the A8, speedy connections to the major economic centers in the Mittelland and the north–south transit axis A2 are now possible. For tourists, A8 opens up in the opposite direction: the large ski resorts in the Bernese Oberland and the tourism regions around the Brünig Pass and Interlaken.

Wichelsee is a lake in Obwalden, Switzerland. Its surface area is 22 ha (54 acres). The reservoir is located in the municipalities of Alpnach and Sarnen. It formed after the Sarner Aa was dammed in 1955. The area around the lake was protected in 2005.

The Sarner Aa is a 28 km (17 mi) long river in the Swiss canton of Obwalden. It drains the area to the eastern side of the Brünig Pass, flowing through the Lake Lungern, Lake Sarnen and the Wichelsee, before entering Lake Lucerne near Alpnach. It goes by several names over its length, being known as the Lauibach upstream of the Lungerersee, and the Aa or Aawasser between the Lungerersee and Lake Sarnen.Along its length, the Sarner Aa flows through or near the settlements of Lungern, Giswil, Sachseln, Sarnen, Kerns and Alpnach.The Brünig railway line follows the valley of the Sarner Aa in its descent from the Brünig Pass towards Lucerne.
