Combe Haven

The Bexhill West branch line was a short double-track branch line which was opened on 1 June 1902. It was built by the Crowhurst, Sidley & Bexhill Railway under the patronage of the South Eastern Railway. The Chief Engineer to the project was Lt Col Arthur John Barry. Diverging from the Hastings Line at Crowhurst, an intermediate station at Sidley was served before the terminus was reached at Bexhill West. The line was closed under the Beeching Axe on 15 June 1964.

Filsham Reedbed is an 18.5-hectare (46-acre) Local Nature Reserve on the western outskirts of St Leonards-on-Sea in East Sussex. It is owned by Hastings Borough Council and managed by Sussex Wildlife Trust. It is part of Combe Haven Site of Special Scientific Interest.This is one of the largest reedbeds in the county and it also has areas of grazing marsh, swamp and ancient woodland. There is a wide variety of plants and over 1000 species of invertebrates have been recorded. The bird life is also important and diverse.There is access from Reedswood Road and from a footpath alongside Combe Haven river.

Bulverhythe, also known as West St Leonards and Bo Peep, is a suburb of Hastings, East Sussex, England with its Esplanade and 15 ft thick sea wall. Bulverhythe is translated as "Burghers' landing place". It used to be under a small headland called Gallows Head, which was washed away by flooding. The suburbs of Filsham, West Marina and Harley Shute are nearby.

St Leonards TMD is a traction maintenance depot located in Bulverhythe, East Sussex, England. The depot is situated on the East Coastway Line and is on the north side of the line between Bexhill and St Leonards Warrior Square railway stations.The depot code is SE.

Glyne Gap Halt was a railway station located in East Sussex between Bexhill and Hastings. It was opened on 11 September 1905 by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR), and closed ten years later.

The Amsterdam (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌɑmstərˈdɑm] ) was an 18th-century cargo ship of the Dutch East India Company (Dutch: Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie; VOC). The VOC was established in 1602. The ship started its maiden voyage from Texel to Batavia on 8 January 1749, but was wrecked in a storm on the English Channel on 26 January 1749. The shipwreck was discovered in 1969 in the bay of Bulverhythe, near Hastings on the English south coast, and is sometimes visible during low tides. The location in 1969 was found by Bill Young, the site agent/project manager for the sewage outfall being built by the William Press Group. With time on his hands during the long stay away from home, he followed up the rumour of the going aground. He was castigated by the Museum of London for scooping out the interior of the bow with a digger as it could have led to the structure collapsing. However, it uncovered the initial items which led to a more extensive excavation of the cargo which reflected life at the time. The wreck is a Protected Wreck managed by Historic England. Some of the findings from the site are in The Shipwreck Museum in Hastings. A replica of the ship is on display in Amsterdam.

East Sussex Cricket Ground was a cricket ground in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex. The ground was located at the site of a racecourse which had moved after 1826 from the Bulverhythe Salts. It was during its time regarded as one of the finest racecourses in the United Kingdom.The first recorded match on the ground was in 1857, when Sussex played the Marylebone Cricket Club in the grounds only first-class match. The final recorded match held on the ground came in 1894 when the South Saxons played the Gentlemen of the Netherlands, a Netherlands side which contained the famous Carst Posthuma.

SM UB-131 was a German Type UB III submarine or U-boat in the German Imperial Navy (German: Kaiserliche Marine) during World War I. She was commissioned into the German Imperial Navy on 4 July 1918 as SM UB-131.UB-131 was surrendered to the Allies at Harwich on 21 November 1918 in accordance with the requirements of the Armistice with Germany. She was wrecked near Bulverhythe on 9 Jan 21 while in-tow from Harwich to Falmouth to take part in explosive trials. The wreck was sold to F. Ray & Sons on 23 May 1921 for £655, and was broken up in situ.

Church Wood and Robsack Wood is a 29.7-hectare (73-acre) Local Nature Reserve in Hastings in East Sussex. It is owned and managed by Hastings Borough Council.This site in four separate areas has semi-natural woodland, semi-improved grassland and streams. Woodland flora include toothwort, goldilocks buttercup and early purple orchid.

Marline Valley Woods is a 55.1-hectare (136-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest on the western outskirts of Hastings in East Sussex. An area of 40.3 hectares (100 acres) is a Local Nature Reserve owned by Hastings Borough Council and managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust.This site has ancient woodland and species rich unimproved grassland. The wood has standards of pedunculate oak and coppice of hornbeam, hazel and sweet chestnut. A stream runs along a steep sided valley which has 61 species of mosses and liverworts, including some uncommon species.There is access from Queensway.

The St Leonards Academy is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, located in the St Leonards-on-Sea area of Hastings in East Sussex.The St Leonards Academy was established in September 2011 from a merger of Filsham Valley School and The Grove School. The school operates on the Filsham Valley site on Edinburgh Road, and continues to coordinate with East Sussex County Council for admissions. The school is federated with Hastings Academy in the form of The Hastings Academies Trust.The school is sponsored by the University of Brighton, British Telecom, and East Sussex County Council, and has specialisms in mathematics and ICT (Information and Communications Technology). It offers GCSEs and BTECs as programmes of study for pupils.
