Greaves Hall

Banks railway station was on the West Lancashire Railway in England. It served the village of Banks near Southport. The station and line opened on 19 February 1878. On that day, the first passenger train was greeted at Banks by "simple songs" from the Church School children. The vicar of Banks, a passenger on the train, rewarded them with a "shower of coppers".The station had a depot in its goods yard for coal merchants in Banks. Along the track, towards Preston, the first crossing was at Long Lane. The crossing keeper who opened the gates for farmers and anyone else wanting to take vehicles or cows across had a house provided with the job. Mrs. Mary Wignall of Ralph's Wife's Lane was interviewed by a local newspaper reporter in 1958 when she was 93 and the oldest resident in Banks. She said, "I well remember watching the first train pass through the village with scores of school children lining the route catching pastries, cakes and oranges thrown from windows".The station and line closed on 7 September 1964.

It was primarily an agricultural community due to the excellent soil, although there was fishing activity for many years. Production of flowers and vegetables is common on the farms surrounding the village. The proximity of Southport and Preston have led to its expansion as a dormitory for commuters.

The population of the parish/ward at the 2011 census was 4,146. Historically the parish covered a wider area including much of what is now Southport.

Historically part of the ancient parish of North Meols and entirely in Lancashire, most of Crossens was transferred to Merseyside on 1 April 1974, when local government boundaries were reorganised nationally. Part of northern Crossens, known as Fiddlers Ferry, is in West Lancashire. Formerly, the village was a detached settlement lying on the western edge of Martin Mere, but after the drainage of the Mere and the expansion of Southport, it had become absorbed into the town's conurbation.

Mere Brow is a small village in Lancashire, England, situated between Tarleton and Banks, just off the A565 road. It is 6 miles (9 km) east of Southport and 10 miles (15 km) south west of Preston. It is administered by the West Lancashire Borough Council and the Tarleton parish council. It is in the West Lancashire parliamentary constituency. Mere Brow is the second largest village in the parish of Tarleton, the largest being Tarleton and the smallest being Holmes and Sollom.

Hundred End railway station was on the West Lancashire Railway in England. It served the small community of Hundred End, so called because this was where the Leyland Hundred and West Derby Hundred met. It opened in 1878 and closed on 30 April 1962. Trains continued passing through the station until the line was closed in 1964 Hundred End Lane running from Marsh Road to Hundred End Station lies partly in Banks and partly in Hesketh Bank.

St Cuthbert's Church is an Anglican church in Churchtown, Merseyside, a village that is now a suburb of Southport in the English county of Merseyside. It is an active parish church in the Diocese of Liverpool and the archdeaconry of Warrington. It has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage. Historically, St Cuthbert's was the parish church of the ecclesiastical parish of North Meols and was within the boundaries of the historic county of Lancashire.
