River Street Bridge (Charles River)

The Head of the Charles Regatta, also known as HOCR, is a rowing head race held on the penultimate complete weekend of October (i.e., on the Friday that falls between the 16th and the 22nd of the month, and on the Saturday and Sunday immediately afterwards) each year on the Charles River, which separates Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts United States. It is the largest 3-day regatta in the world, with 11,000 athletes rowing in over 1,900 boats in 61 events. According to the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau, the three-day event brings 225,000 people to the Greater Boston area and $72 million to the local economy.The last races of the Regatta are generally the most prestigious: Championship 4s, and Championship 8s (both men and women). Championship sculling events (1x/single and 2x/double) race on Saturday afternoon. The Championship events usually include U.S. National Team athletes, as well as national team athletes from other top rowing nations. The competitive field includes individual and team competitors from colleges, high schools, and clubs from nearly all American states and various countries. The 2006 field included rowers from China, South Africa, Croatia, Ireland, and the Netherlands. The age of athletes spans from 14 to 85 years old with experience levels from novice to Olympic. In 2007, approximately 10% of the field was international. Regattas such as the Head of the Charles in Boston and the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia are to the rowing world what the New York City Marathon and the Boston Marathon are to running.

Memorial Drive, colloquially referred to as Mem Drive, is a 3.9-mile (6.3 km) parkway along the north bank of the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The parkway runs parallel to two major Boston parkways, Soldiers Field Road and Storrow Drive, which lie on the south bank of the river. The western terminus is in West Cambridge at Greenough Boulevard and Fresh Pond Parkway. The eastern terminus is at Main Street and the Longfellow Bridge near Kendall Square. Memorial Drive is designated as U.S. Route 3 for most of its length, except the easternmost 0.7 miles (1.1 km) which are designated as Massachusetts Route 3 (US 3 and Route 3 connect end-to-end and are treated as one continuous route by the state). Route 2 is cosigned with US 3 on Memorial Drive between the western terminus and the Boston University Bridge.

The B B Chemical Company is an historic office and industrial building at 784 Memorial Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It was built in 1937 for the Boston Blacking Company, an adhesive manufacturer whose most famous brand name was Bostik, to a design by Coolidge, Shepley, Bulfinch & Abbott, and is a prominent local example of Streamline Moderne architecture. From 1979 to 1996, it served as the headquarters of the Polaroid Corporation. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 under the incorrect name "B and B Chemical Company". It is now owned by The Bulfinch Companies of Needham, Massachusetts.

Scullers Jazz Club is a jazz club in Allston, Massachusetts, situated in the Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel on Soldiers Field Road, which overlooks the Charles River. It was established in 1989 and also hosts Latin, blues, soul, R & B, and World Music acts. A broad range of artists have played the club from Ben E. King, Jesse Green, The J. Geils Band, Eyran Katsenelenbogen and Earl Klugh, to more popular singers such as Harry Connick Jr., Quincy Jones, Jamie Cullum, Michael Bublé and Tony Bennett.

The Western Avenue Bridge is a bridge carrying Western Avenue over the Charles River between Cambridge and Allston, Massachusetts. It was built in 1924 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Metropolitan District Commission. The bridge carries one-way traffic going west, into Allston. Eastbound traffic must take the nearby River Street Bridge.

The Riverside Boat Club is a private, non-profit, rowing club on the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States of America. Founded in 1869 by workers from the Riverside Press.

Grendel's Den is a bar and restaurant in Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, located at 89 Winthrop Street. The establishment is frequented by both students and professors of Harvard University as well as many others from the Cambridge and Boston area. The name was a reference to Grendel, the antagonist in the Old English epic Beowulf. The restaurant is perhaps most famous for the lawsuit Larkin v. Grendel's Den, Inc., 459 U.S. 116 (1982), which reached the Supreme Court of the United States in 1982. The suit challenged the Massachusetts state blue law (16C) allowing a school or a religious institution within 500 feet of a liquor license applicant to prevent the issuance. The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts ruled in favor of Grendel's Den, holding that the law violated the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment. The Supreme Court upheld the ruling of the lower court.The restaurant is also a favorite of actor and director Ben Affleck, who shot portions of his 2010 film The Town there.

The Shell Oil Company "Spectacular" Sign is a historic advertising sign by the Shell Oil Company (the US-based subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell) located at 187 Magazine Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Peabody Terrace, on the north bank of the Charles River in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a Harvard University housing complex primarily serving graduate students, particularly married students and their families. Designed in the brutalist style and constructed in 1964, its three-story perimeter grows to five and seven stories within, with three interior 22-story towers.It has been described as "beloved by architects and disliked by almost everyone else."

The Ernst Flentje House is an historic house at 129 Magazine Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This three story wood frame apartment house exhibits the adaptive reuse of buildings. It was built in 1866 as a Second Empire single family residence with a mansard roof. In 1900 it was restyled by Ernst Flentje and converted into a three unit apartment house. It is one of the most exuberantly decorated triple deckers in the city.The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Tata Hall is a building on the campus of the Harvard Business School in Allston, Massachusetts. It was built in part with $50 million from the Tata Group, and named in honor of its former chairman and HBS alumnus Ratan Tata. The project began in 2010, and it was completed in 2013. The building includes a dormitory and classrooms.

The Chao Center is a building on the campus of Harvard Business School which is one of 14 schools within Harvard University. in the Allston neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, U.S. and across the street from the Harvard School of Engineering opening in 2020.
