Schijen (Schwyzer Alps)

Canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden (German: Kanton Appenzell Ausserrhoden [ˈapn̩tsɛl ˈaʊsərˌroːdn̩] ; Romansh: Chantun Appenzell Dadora; French: Canton d'Appenzell Rhodes-Extérieures; Italian: Canton Appenzello Esterno), in English sometimes Appenzell Outer Rhodes, is one of the 26 cantons forming the Swiss Confederation. It is composed of twenty municipalities. The seat of the government and parliament is Herisau, and the seat of judicial authorities are in Trogen. It is traditionally considered a "half-canton", the other half being Appenzell Innerrhoden. Appenzell Ausserrhoden is located in the north east of Switzerland. Together with the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, it forms an enclave within the canton of St. Gallen. The canton is essentially located in the Alpine foothills of the Alpstein massif, culminating at the Säntis. Appenzell Ausserrhoden was part of the historical canton of Appenzell, which was divided into Appenzell Innerrhoden (Catholic) and Appenzell Ausserrhoden (Protestant) in 1597 as a result of the Swiss Reformation.

The Brünnelistock (2,133 m [6,998 ft]) is a mountain of the Schwyzer Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Schwyz and Glarus, Switzerland. It lies north of the Mutteristock, on the range between the Wägitalersee and the Obersee.

Obersee (German pronunciation: [ˈoːbɐzeː] , lit. 'Upper Lake') is a lake on Oberseealp in the Canton of Glarus, Switzerland. Its surface area is 24 ha (59 acres). There is a hotel on the lakeside which overlooks the lake and the Brünnelistock. During a cold and dry winter, there is a chance of black ice developing.

Klöntalersee is a natural lake in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland and covers the major part of the Klöntal valley floor. Since 1908, it has been used as a reservoir for electricity production. The dam's construction substantially increased the lake's volume. Klöntalersee is drained by the Löntsch, a left tributary of the Linth.

The Zindlenspitz (2,097 m [6,880 ft]) is a mountain of the Schwyzer Alps, located on the border between the Swiss cantons of Schwyz and Glarus. It lies on the range between the Wägitalersee and the Obersee, south of the Brünnelistock.

The Rautispitz is a mountain of the Schwyzer Alps, overlooking Netstal in the canton of Glarus, Switzerland. It lies between the lakes Obersee and the Klöntalersee and culminates at 2,283 metres (7,490 ft) above sea level. Its summit is generally accessed from the west side, with several trails starting at the Obersee.

Netstal is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Netstal is part of the municipality of Glarus.

The Glärnisch is a mountain massif of the Schwyz Alps, overlooking the valley of the Linth in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It consists of several summits, of which the highest, Bächistock, is 2,915 metres above sea level. Until 2013, the highest point was considered to be an unnamed point with a summit cross at 2,914 metres (until 2013: 2'915 metres). The other main summits are Vrenelisgärtli ("Verena's Little Garden" at 2,904 metres) and the Ruchen (2,901 metres). The massif of the Glärnisch consists of two ridges of either side of the glacier named Glärnischfirn, culminating at the Ruchen to the west, rising more than 2,000 metres above the Klöntalersee, and at the Bächistock to the southwest. The Vrenelisgärtli is the closest peak to Schwanden. The Glärnischfirn (also known as the Glärnischgletscher, the "Glarnisch Glacier") is about one mile long and about one-half mile wide at between 1.5 and 2.0 miles above sea level. The surrounding peaks are generally accessible to hikers and climbers only by traversing the length of the glacier itself. From the Vrenelisgärtli peak, the Lake Klontal may be seen directly, more than one mile below. In recent years, the glacier has lost a massive amount of its volume and its tongue has retreated sharply.East of the Glärnisch is located the lower Vorder Glärnisch.

The Vorder Glärnisch (2,327 m) is a mountain of the Schwyzer Alps, overlooking the valley of the Linth in the canton of Glarus. It lies north-east of the higher Glärnisch (2,914 m). Unlike its higher neighbour, the Vorder Glärnisch can be ascended via a trail on its north-west side.

Riedern is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Riedern is part of the municipality of Glarus.

Netstal railway station (German: Bahnhof Netstal) is a railway station in the municipality of Glarus in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It is an intermediate stop on the Weesen to Linthal railway line, and serves the village of Netstal. The station is served by Zürich S-Bahn service S25 between Zurich and Linthal, and by St. Gallen S-Bahn service S6 between Rapperswil and Schwanden. Both services operate once per hour, combining to provide two trains per hour between Ziegelbrücke and Schwanden.

Oberurnen is a former municipality in the canton of Glarus in Switzerland. Effective from 1 January 2011, Oberurnen is part of the municipality of Glarus Nord.
