Muiden Castle

The Vecht is a Rhine branch in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is sometimes called Utrechtse Vecht to avoid confusion with its Overijssel counterpart. The area along the river is called the Vechtstreek.

Muiden (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈmœydə(n)] ) is a city and former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It lies at the mouth of the Vecht and is in an area called the Vechtstreek. Since 2016, Muiden has been part of the new municipality of Gooise Meren.

Mouse Fort (Dutch: Muizenfort) is a Dutch fort in Muiden. The fort is part of the Stelling van Amsterdam, the UNESCO World Heritage site that consists of a set of forts around the city of Amsterdam. The fort is made of masonry and covered with sand on the east side. The fort has nine casemates, of which the two artillery casemates with three embrasures each, are the most important. From here, the bridges, dike, and channel could be attacked. The Fort also has the crew quarters, the room for the guard, the kitchen, the room for officers, the rooms for storing food, gunpowder, and the guns.

The Gooiboog (Dutch for Gooi Curve) is a railway chord which links the Dutch Flevolijn and Gooilijn railway lines. The link is double tracked. The outer, southbound line is 2200 metres long, the inner northbound one is 1400 metre. The outer track is in a dive-under, running beneath the surface level for about 1500 metres, diving underneath the Gooilijn. The Gooiboog offers a direct link between Almere, Hilversum and Utrecht.

Pampus (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈpɑmpɵs]) is an artificial island and late 19th-century sea fort located in the IJmeer near Amsterdam. Pampus now belongs to the municipality of Gooise Meren and is open to visitors. Together with the artillery battery on the lighthouse island near Durgerdam and the battery at the Diemer seawall, Pampus protected the entrance to IJ Bay and the harbour of Amsterdam. Pampus was part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam (Dutch: Stelling van Amsterdam). In 1996, UNESCO designated the entire Defence Line with its 42 forts a World Heritage Site.

The IJmeer is a 'bordering lake' (Randmeer) in the Netherlands. It lies between the De Nes polder (in Waterland), Pampushaven, Hollandse Brug and the mouth of the IJ in IJburg, straddling the provinces of North Holland and Flevoland. It is an important habitat for birds such as the tufted duck and scaup. To the north-east is the Markermeer, south-east is the Gooimeer.

Hakkelaarsbrug is a hamlet in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Gooise Meren, and lies about 6 km northwest of Bussum.Hakkelaarsbrug is not a statistical entity, and the postal authorities have placed it under Muiderberg. It has no place name signs and consists of about 40 houses.It was first mentioned in 1617 as Hackelaers brug, and is named after the former toll bridge. The etymology of the name is unclear. The location was notable earlier, because Floris V, Count of Holland was killed at Hakkelaarsbrug in 1296 by angry peasants.

Weesp is a railway station in Weesp, Netherlands. The station has two island platforms and it has a total of six tracks, from which two tracks are for passing trains. The first station in Weesp opened on June 10, 1874, when the Gooilijn from Amsterdam to Hilversum and Amersfoort was completed. The original station was demolished in 1967 and replaced by a new building. The new building partially went out of service in 1985 because of the new railway line from Weesp to Almere and beyond, called the Flevolijn. The out-of-service part was later converted to a bicycle parking and repair shop. The remaining station is little more than a tunnel passing under the tracks, and a small coffee counter. Train services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen. Since the opening of the Flevolijn, Weesp has been a major transfer station for passengers travelling from Amsterdam Central Station and Schiphol from the east, and suburbs such as Almere and Hilversum to the west. Due to this circumstance, Weesp features 16 departures per hour. Until 2003, also passagers travelling between Hilversum and Almere had to change at Weesp. In that year a new branch, the Gooiboog, was added to connect the line towards Almere with the line towards Naarden-Bussum railway station and Hilversum. The traveling time from Weesp to Amsterdam Centraal by train is about 15 minutes. The distance between the two is about 15 kilometers.

The Weesp City Hall is the former city hall of Weesp, Netherlands. The main body of the municipality, the municipal council, convened in the Raadzaal (Council Hall) until 24 March 2022 when Weesp became part of the municipality of Amsterdam. The administrative offices have moved, but the former Vierschaar and Burgerzaal (Civic Hall) are still used for weddings and other official proceedings. The rest of the building is in use as the local museum of Weesp.

Weesp (Dutch pronunciation: [ʋeːsp] (listen)) is a city, an urban area in the municipality of Amsterdam and a former municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. It had a population of 20,445 in 2021. It lies on the river Vecht and next to the Amsterdam–Rhine Canal in an area called the Vechtstreek. On 1 June 2019 the civil service offices of the municipality of Weesp merged with those of the municipality of Amsterdam in preparation of the merger of the two municipalities, which was finalized on 24 March 2022.

Muiderberg (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌmœydərˈbɛr(ə)x]) is a village in the municipality of Gooise Meren in the Netherlands. It lies about 6 km north of Bussum and 2 km west of Naarden, adjacent to the Naarderbos.

De Hogeweyk, operated by nursing home Hogewey, is a gated model village in Weesp, Netherlands. It has been designed specifically as a pioneering care facility for elderly people with dementia. The benefit of using all-day reminiscence therapy at Hogewey, compared to traditional nursing homes, is that the residents with dementia are more active and require less medication.
