West Hills is a suburban/residential community in the western San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, California. The percentage of residents aged 35 and older is among the highest in Los Angeles County.The neighborhood was formerly the home of many Native American tribes, and during the early Spanish and Mexican era was part of the Mission San Fernando Rey de España. In the American era, West Hills was part of Owensmouth, which was renamed Canoga Park in 1930. West Hills was established in western Canoga Park and retained its present name in 1987. Historic landmarks and many city parks are to be found within the community, as are commercial districts, a business district, and religious establishments. Two private high schools are among the 13 schools within West Hills.

Chaminade College Preparatory, formerly Chaminade High School for Boys, is a private Catholic preparatory school with two campuses in San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles County, California. Named after Society of Mary founder William Joseph Chaminade, Chaminade College Preparatory consists of a middle school (encompassing grades 6–8) located in Chatsworth and a high school (encompassing grades 9–12) located in West Hills. It is located in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It is a member of the approved Secondary Schools of the University of California. Chaminade College Preparatory was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1998.

Cohasset Melba Park also known as Four Oaks Park, is an urban park located in the San Fernando Valley, Los Angeles, California. It is primarily a grassy green space, with drinking fountains and a children's playground.

The Chatsworth Nature Preserve (CNP) is a 1,325-acre (536 ha) open-space preserve located in the northwest corner of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California, United States. The preserve contains oak woodlands, savanna, riparian areas, grassland, vernal pools, and an Ecology Pond, all of which support more than 200 bird species and numerous mammals, amphibians and reptiles.

Rancho El Escorpión was a 1,110-acre (4.5 km2) Mexican land grant in present day Los Angeles County, California given in 1845 by Governor Pío Pico to three Chumash Native Americans - Odón Chijulla, Urbano, and Mañuel. The half league square shaped Rancho El Escorpión was located at the west end of the San Fernando Valley on Bell Creek against the Simi Hills, and encompassed parts of present day West Hills (previously Owensmouth and Canoga Park) and Woodland Hills.

California Pacific School of Theology is a higher-education Christian theological school in the United States non-accredited at this time, issuing religious degrees in West Hills, California. The school offers distance education for Graduate and Undergraduate programs.

Bell Canyon Park is a large open-space regional park located in the Simi Hills at the western end of the San Fernando Valley in West Hills, Los Angeles and Bell Canyon, California. Bell Creek, a primary tributary to the Los Angeles River, flows through the park with riparian zone vegetation along its natural banks. The geographic landmark Escorpión Peak (Castle Peak) is high above it to the south in adjacent El Escorpión Park.

West Valley Christian School (WVCS) is a private primary and lower secondary Christian school in West Hills, Los Angeles, California serving Preschool through 8th grade. it was established by the adjacent West Valley Christian Church in 1978. It previously had a high school division. As of 1991, West Valley Christian was occupying a Los Angeles Unified School District school campus that was leased by the private school.In the 2007-2008 school year, West Valley had 120 students in its high school division. In June 2011 the school closed its high school, leaving it with only elementary and middle school divisions. It would have had 35 students in the high school if it had remained open. As of 2016, it serves about 320 students in grades PK-8. From 2013-2016 the school partnered with Carnegie Education Institute for high school operations.As of 2016, it serves 320 students in Preschool through 8th grade. Campus facilities include an auditorium and a 9,000-square-foot (840 m2) gymnasium.The school's nickname was previously the "Seekers" as in "seekers after truth and beauty."The school operates a summer camp for foreign students to improve their English language skills. Three Chinese students from Jiangshan High School in Quzhou, Zhejiang were killed on Asiana Airlines Flight 214 while traveling to this camp.

Shadow Ranch is a historic ranch house, built from 1869-1872 using adobe and redwood lumber, on the original Workman Ranch in the western San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, California. For much of the 20th century it was in Canoga Park, but it is now within the boundaries of the West Hills community.

Fallbrook Center is a 75-acre (300,000 m2), 880,000-square-foot (82,000 m2), open-air shopping center with retailers including Wal-Mart, Trader Joe's, Home Depot, Target, Ulta Beauty, Bob's Discount Furniture, Furniture City, Crumbl Cookies, Panda Express, Sprouts Farmers Market, Ross Dress for Less, 24 Hour Fitness, It's Boba Time, Michael's, and Petco.

de Toledo High School, formerly New Community Jewish High School and informally known as "New Jew", is a private Jewish high school in the West Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, in the western San Fernando Valley, California. One of the largest Jewish day schools in the United States, the school adopted its new name as of July 1, 2015.

The Cobalt Cafe was an all-ages music venue in Canoga Park, California. Although the venue always hosted touring artists, it was most known for hosting rock concerts featuring bands local to the Los Angeles area, typically punk, heavy metal, and alternative. The Cobalt, a relatively small venue in the suburban San Fernando Valley, hosted an unusually high number of bands that later established successful careers, including AFI, Less Than Jake, Link 80, Avenged Sevenfold, California Redemption, and Valley locals Strung Out, Second Rate, Linkin Park, Hoobastank, and Incubus. With much of the area's music scene centered in other areas (such as Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles), the Cobalt was among the primary musical, artistic, and cultural centers of the San Fernando Valley.
