Sherwood Country Club

The Invesco QQQ Championship is a professional golf tournament on the PGA Tour Champions, played at Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California. The inaugural edition in October 2016 featured a 72-player field competing for a $2 million purse, and was a no-cut 54-hole event.

Lake Sherwood is an unincorporated community in the Santa Monica Mountains, in Ventura County, California overlooking Lake Sherwood reservoir. It is a body contact lake, swimming, fishing, SUP and boating allowed, located south of the Conejo Valley and city of Thousand Oaks, and west of Westlake Village. The lake is naturally fed by thousand of acres of open-space, watershed mountains and natural springs. While homes have been around the lake since the reservoir was created by the construction of Sherwood Dam in 1901, the community expanded with the development of the Sherwood Country Club golf course surrounded by luxury homes. The ZIP Code is 91361, and the community is inside area code 805. The population was 1,759 at the 2020 census. For statistical purposes, the United States Census Bureau has defined Lake Sherwood as a census-designated place (CDP). The census definition of the area may not precisely correspond to local understanding of the area with the same name.

Ventura Farms, previously known as Deerwood Stock Farm and Kentucky Park Farms, lies in the Hidden Valley in Thousand Oaks, California. The 2,200-acre (890 ha) ranch has been featured in a number of Western films and is still used for filming. The main activity has long been the raising of thoroughbred horses. It is situated at the east end of Lake Sherwood near the entrance to the Hidden Valley.The ranch consists of various gardens, such as an English Garden, Family Garden, Secret Garden, Arabian Division, etc. Also at the farm is a herd of Santa Gertrudis cattle, Kashmir sheep, Reindeer, Arabian horses, and around 800 Koi. Architectural features include the Sound of Water Pavilion, Japanese Tea House, Chinese Scholar House, Poet’s House, and an 1,800 square feet (170 m2) conservatory housing 25,000 orchids.The Deerwood Stock Farm was owned by J. C. Dellinger from prior to 1944 until 1978, when David Murdock, CEO of Dole Corporation, purchased it and renamed it Ventura Farms. The ranch may have been started by F. W. Matthiessen and given the original name Kentucky Park Farms. It was then property of Carleton F. Burke, California Horse Racing Board's first chairman.

Sherwood Dam, known also as Lake Sherwood Dam, Alturas Dam, and Potrero Dam, is a 270-foot-long (82 m) concrete arch dam in the Santa Monica Mountains near Thousand Oaks, California. Completed in 1904, its construction led to the creation of the 165-acre (67 ha) Potrero Lake (since renamed Lake Sherwood) over the following winter. It was the first reservoir of its size in the area, and remains one of the oldest standing dams in California.

Lake Eleanor (National ID # CA00737), also known as Banning Dam, is an 8-acre (3.2 ha) freshwater lake (gravity dam) near Westlake Village in Thousand Oaks, California. The lake lies within the 513-acre (208 ha) Lake Eleanor Open Space and was Ventura County Historic Landmark No. 120 in 1988. It is also designated City of Thousand Oaks Historical Landmark No. 9. Under ownership of Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA), the lake sits in a gorge with sheer cliffs and drops of 40–50 ft (12–15 m). An artificial lake, it was first constructed in 1889, and may be the first concrete arched dam built in California.Although not a major dam, Banning Dam is among the oldest still standing in the state. Nearby Sherwood Dam dates from 1904 (1904). It is less than 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Lake Sherwood. The structure is located within the Lake Eleanor Open Space. At 37 feet high, and 140 feet long at its crest, the dam is owned by the local Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency.

God's Seat is a popular vista and rock formation in Malibu, California, United States, about two miles east of Circle X Ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. God's Seat's name derives from its natural throne-like shape at the top of a thousand-foot cliff. It is well known locally for its scenic views of Lake Sherwood, Sandstone Peak, the Conejo Valley and the Pacific Ocean. The formation is visible from Yerba Buena Road, about two miles north of Mulholland Highway along the Backbone Trail. The California Hells Angels were supposedly once common fixtures at the site, which they nicknamed Smoker's Perch. The "seat of the throne" today is a floor of broken glass, though the site is now patrolled daily so as to prevent further vandalism.

The Triunfo Pass is a mountain pass in the Santa Monica Mountains, located on Yerba Buena Road in southeastern Ventura County, Southern California.Automobile access to Circle X Ranch Park, part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, is on the west side of the pass.The pass is the site of an earth station.

Hope Nature Preserve is a 360-acre (150 ha) nature preserve in Newbury Park, California. It was a gift to the city from its owner, actor Bob Hope, whom it is named for. It is located by the Newbury Park-Thousand Oaks “border” in southern Conejo Valley. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including mountain lions, gray fox, bobcats, coyotes, deer, rabbits, and more. The Los Robles Trail provides the principal access, but it can also be visited from a trailhead in Lynn Oaks Park. It connects to a variety of protected open-space areas, including Ventu Park, Deer Ridge, Los Vientos, Los Padres, and many more.

The Case Study House No. 28, at 91 Inverness Rd., Thousand Oaks, California, is the only Case Study House in Ventura County. Built during 1965–66, it was listed on the National Register along with several other Case Study Houses in Los Angeles County on July 24, 2013, as part of the "Case Study House Program NPS". This one-story flat-roofed house, designed by architects Conrad Buff and Donald Hensman of the firm Buff and Hensman, was the last family home built in the program and one of the largest at 4,500 square feet. The architects designed the house with classic concept in modern architecture of merging interior and exterior spaces through glass expanses and seamless materials. Face brick was incorporated into the house since it is located on a knoll overlooking a development where this was the unifying material. Previous houses in the program consisted primarily of glass and exposed steel, but the Janss Development Corporation and Pacific Clay Products wanted to demonstrate the advantages of the alternative material.Decorative iron gates at the entrance frame the center courtyard that has a swimming pool. Along with the brick face, the house has more than 4,000 square feet of glass windows that are shaded by overhangs. The owners described how they considered installing double paned glass but found it would not fit into the steel frame; the single paned glass makes the house hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Solar panels have been put on the roof along with replacing the asphalt and gravel material, popular at the time the house was constructed, with white foam.When the current owners purchased the house in 1987, the previous owners had shared media coverage about the house with them. In 2013, the owner said to the local press, "I fell in love with the house. I saw it as a work of art."

Conejo Players Theatre is a performing arts theater in Thousand Oaks, California. Established in 1958, it is the oldest theater in the city -- as well as one of the oldest in Southern California. It hosts a full season of Mainstage shows each year, including musicals and plays -- plus special events, workshops, improv comedy performances, holiday shows, and a long-running children's theatre program taught by theater professionals. The theater was housed in an old barn building for several years, but constructed a new theater after donations from Janss Corporation in 1963. The 185-seat theater is located on S. Moorpark Road. Marilyn O'Connor performed regularly at the theater. She has later been seen in TV series such as Matlock, 7th Heaven, Frasier, ER, Little Britain USA and American Horror Story. As a child, Kurt Russell participated in several productions at the Players -- as did former Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes and former Disney Channel star Corey Fogelmanis.Conejo Players Theatre is allegedly haunted.

Camp JCA Shalom is a Jewish summer camp located in Malibu, California. The camp opened in 1951 in Barton Flats, California before moving to its current location in the Malibu mountains. The camp offers many activities to campers including a climbing wall, swimming, environmental education, a zip-line, sea kayaking, Native American skills, rappelling, canoeing, pioneer living, ropes course activities, water volleyball, gardening, mountain biking, beach trips, campcraft, Maccabiah Games, ceramics, archery, concerts, martial arts/Krav Maga, Gaga, Israeli days, digital photography, Ultimate Frisbee, campfires, Israeli dance, soccer, overnights, drama productions, and ping-pong. In addition to regular camp activities, Camp Shalom provides programming for older campers. For kids entering the 10th or 11th grades, they have the opportunity to enroll in the TASC (Teen Age Service Camp) program. In TASC, participants build projects around the camp that helps to improve the campus. Past projects include benches, an amphitheater, and even a petting zoo. In addition, there is a special program for kids entering 11th grade only called Kibbutz, where the campers spend four weeks living in the garden and learning about simple, pioneer style living that is common on a kibbutz in Israel. The counselor-in-training program is the place from which JCA gets most of its staff members. The counselors in training, all entering their senior years of high school, participate in a 5-week intensive program in which they do workshops in child development, Jewish programming, and leadership training to which they become sufficient to joining the other JCA staff members. The counselors in training have the opportunity, within those 5 weeks, to work with younger campers and learn about how to be an effective counselor and leader. This incredible program has been deemed a favorite by many who attend camp. It's an enriching and exciting experience, one generally embarked by former campers of JCA. This is the perfect way of giving back to camp. Camp JCA Shalom is also a popular filming location. Some movies and television shows that used the Camp Shalom campus for filming include The Simple Life, American Pie 2, Dog Eat Dog, and My Name is Earl.The camp was destroyed on November 9, 2018 by the Woolsey Fire and they are now in the process of rebuilding the camp.

On November 7, 2018, a mass shooting occurred in Thousand Oaks, California, United States, at the Borderline Bar and Grill, a country-western bar frequented by college students. Thirteen people were killed, including the perpetrator, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a police officer who was shot multiple times, with the fatal round accidentally being fired by another officer. One other person sustained a gunshot wound, while fifteen others were injured by incidental causes.Police identified the killer as 28-year-old Ian David Long, a United States Marine Corps veteran.
