Putnam County is a county located in the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census, the population was 97,668. The county seat is Carmel. Putnam County formed in 1812 from Dutchess County and is named for Israel Putnam, a hero in the French and Indian War and a general in the American Revolutionary War. Putnam County is included in the New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located in the lower Hudson River Valley. Midtown Manhattan is around a one-hour drive, and Grand Central Terminal is approximately one hour and twenty minutes by train from the county.It is one of the most affluent counties in America, ranked 21st by median household income, and 43rd by per-capita income, according to the 2012 American Community Survey and 2009-2013 American Community Survey, respectively.

China Pond is a lake in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York. The pond has a surface area of 50 acres (20 ha).According to tradition, China Pond was named from an incident after a woman tossed chinaware into it in order to anger her drunk husband.

The Boyds Corner Reservoir is a small reservoir in Putnam County, New York. It is in the town of Kent, New York, and is about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of New York City. It is the northernmost reservoir in the Croton River watershed, but is not part of the New York City water supply system's Croton Watershed. and was formed by impounding the middle of the West Branch of the Croton River, submerging the village of Boyds Corner.

The Woo Ju Memorial Library (和如紀念圖書館) is a library in the grounds of Chuang Yen Monastery in Kent, Putnam County, New York, United States, run by the Buddhist Association of the United States (BAUS). It selects publications under the categories “Buddhism” and “Mind, Spirit, and Health” on a regular basis, so as to showcase the library collection. Tompkins Corners is a hamlet in Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York.

Mount Nimham is a 1,273-foot-tall (388 m) mountain in Hudson Highlands of New York. It is located northwest of Carmel in Putnam County. Nimham Mountain is named after Chief Daniel Nimham of the Wappinger tribe. In 1940, an 82-foot-6-inch-tall (25.15 m) steel fire lookout tower was built on the mountain. The tower ceased fire lookout operations at the end of the 1988 fire lookout season and was officially closed the next year. The tower appears on the National Historic Lookout Register and is still open to the public.

Kirk Lake is a controlled lake in the hamlet of Mahopac in the town of Carmel in Putnam County, New York. It lies due west and sharply below considerably larger Lake Mahopac. It is one of three controlled lakes in the New York City water supply system's Croton Watershed.The outfall of Kirk Lake forms the northernmost headwaters of the Muscoot River, a tributary of the Croton River in the Croton River watershed. Approximately one-half mile south of its dam its waters are joined by a small flow from Lake Mahopac, which shortly cross into Westchester County and drain into the Amawalk Reservoir in the town of Somers.

Pelton Pond is an 8 acres (3.2 ha) pond within Clarence Fahnestock State Park in northern Putnam County, in the U.S. state of New York.According to an 1849 source it is named after a local miner.

Canopus Lake is a small lake within Clarence Fahnestock State Park in northern Putnam County, New York, United States. The lake is about 2.4 kilometres (1.5 mi) long and 120 metres (390 ft) wide at its widest point and 66 acres (27 ha) in area. Immediately to its east is Pelton Pond. The lake is on NY 301 just west of the Taconic State Parkway. The beach at the lake is used for swimming, boating, and fishing. In the winter, some cross-country skiers use the flat surface as a trail. The Appalachian Trail parallels the west side of the lake.

Massaro House is a residence on privately owned Petre Island in Lake Mahopac, New York, roughly 50 miles north of New York city. Its construction was inspired by designs of a never-built project conceived by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. As conceived it was known as the "Chahroudi House" for the client who commissioned it, Ahmed "A. K." Chahroudi; as built it gained the name of its owner, Joseph Massaro. Brad Pitt received the mansion and the small island it is on as a $15 million dollar gift from Angelina Jolie for his 50th birthday.Due to a running dispute with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and subsequent out-of-court settlement the home can only be described as being "inspired by Wright" rather than a faithfully rendered, certified Wright design.
