RAF Stormy Down

Stormy Down is a Site of Special Scientific Interest flanking the M4 motorway near Pyle in Bridgend County Borough, South Wales. During World War Two, an aerodrome has been there.

Tythegston (Welsh: Llandudwg) is a conservation area village located (M4 J37 3 miles) close to Cardiff (24 miles) and Swansea (19 miles) on the south coast of Bridgend, Wales. It is home to Tythegston Court, a Grade II listed manor house at the centre of the 1,200 acre Tythegston Estate which is designated at Grade II on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales. The estate has been owned by the Knight family for some 350 years and operates as a farming and property enterprise, with an industrial estate, as well as hosting green energy and food production. The seaside town of Porthcawl, with its numerous beaches is within 3 miles, as is Bridgend inter-city rail station (London hourly express train c.2hrs 10mins). The village covers an area of 2,871 acres (1,162 ha). It is part of the community of Merthyr Mawr.

St Clare's School is a coeducational private day school, located in the village of Newton (near Porthcawl), in Bridgend County Borough, South Wales. St. Clare's is a non-selective independent school attended by pupils aged 2 1/2 years through to 18. The school provides preparatory, secondary and tertiary education leading to GCSE and A-level qualifications. Formerly a Roman Catholic school, it is now owned and operated by the Cognita Group.

St John the Baptist Church, Porthcawl is a medieval church and Grade I-listed building in Church Street, Newton, Porthcawl, Wales. It was built in the late twelfth century and has been remodelled several times in the succeeding centuries.

Porthcawl ([pɔrθˈkaul] ) is a town and community in the Bridgend County Borough of Wales. It is on the south coast of Wales, 25 miles (40 km) west of Cardiff and 19 miles (31 km) southeast of Swansea. Historically part of Glamorgan and situated on a low limestone headland on the South Wales coast, overlooking the Bristol Channel, Porthcawl developed as a coal port during the 19th century, but its trade was soon taken over by more rapidly developing ports such as Barry. Northwest of the town, in the dunes known as Kenfig Burrows, are hidden the last remnants of the town and Kenfig Castle, which were overwhelmed by sand about 1400.

Waun Cimla, also known as Bedford Park is a Site of Special Scientific Interest in Glamorgan, south Wales. It contains the Cefn Cribwr Ironworks and some 40 acres of woodlands and meadows.The SSSI is designated for its marshy grassland habitats, rare plant species and marsh fritillary butterfly.

Kenfig Hill railway station served the village of Kenfig Hill, in the historical county of Glamorgan, Wales, from 1865 to 1958 on the Llynvi and Ogmore Railway.

Nottage Halt railway station was a small halt on the Porthcawl branch line, serving the village of Nottage in South Wales. It first opened around 1900 as an unadvertised halt named Porthcawl Golfers Platform (or Golf Platform). In 1924 it was made a public halt called Nottage Halt. It had a single platform constructed in brick. Unlike many unstaffed halts in South Wales, the shelter at Nottage was a comparatively smart and substantial structure, with a tiled roof and brick chimney. The station was popular throughout its life, and was often referred to as Golf Station (the Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is nearby). Nottage Halt closed to passengers in 1963, along with the whole of the Porthcawl branch. The closure came despite the fact that passenger receipts remained profitable. The line through the station closed in 1965. The remains of the halt are still visible. The trackbed is little more than a rough pathway.

Pyle (Welsh: Y Pîl) is a village and community (and electoral ward) in Bridgend county borough, Wales. This large village is served by the A48 road, and lies less than one mile from Junction 37 of the M4 motorway, and is therefore only a half-hour journey from the capital city of Wales, Cardiff. The nearest town is the seaside resort of Porthcawl. Within the Community, to the northeast of Pyle, is the adjoining settlement of Kenfig Hill, North Cornelly also adjoins Pyle and the built-up area had a population of 13,701 in 2011.
