North Knoxville is the section of Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, that lies north of the city's downtown area. It is concentrated around Broadway (US-441), Clinton Highway (US-25W), Tazewell Pike (TN-331), Washington Pike, and adjacent roads, and includes the neighborhoods of Fountain City, Inskip-Norwood, Oakwood-Lincoln Park, Old North Knoxville, Fourth and Gill, North Hills, and Whittle Springs. North Knoxville is bisected by Sharp's Ridge, a 7-mile (11 km) elongate ridge that rises prominently above the surrounding terrain. "North Knoxville" originally referred to the area between Downtown Knoxville and Sharp's Ridge. A portion of this area, namely the Old North Knoxville and Fourth and Gill neighborhoods, incorporated as the City of North Knoxville in 1888, though this city was annexed by Knoxville in 1897. Lincoln Park and Oakwood, which developed alongside the Southern Railroad's Coster Yards, were annexed in 1917, pushing the city's boundaries to the base of Sharp's Ridge.The residential development of North Knoxville began with the advent of streetcars in the 1880s, and the establishment of the so-called "Dummy Line," a train connecting Knoxville with Fountain City, in 1890. This train and the trolley that replaced it in 1905 ran along Broadway. Fountain City and other areas north of Sharp's Ridge were annexed in 1962, and the area south of Sharp's Ridge, namely the Old North Knoxville, Fourth and Gill, and Oakwood-Lincoln Park neighborhoods, are now typically referred to as "old" North Knoxville, or "Downtown North." Recent economic initiatives have focused on rezoning commercial or industrial areas as "mixed-use" areas or low-density residential areas, improving sidewalks and greenways, and improving (i.e., widening or adding turn lanes) important roads.

WPXK-TV (channel 54) is a television station licensed to Jellico, Tennessee, United States, broadcasting the Ion Television network to the Knoxville area. Owned and operated by the Ion Media subsidiary of the E. W. Scripps Company, the station has offices on Executive Park Drive in west Knoxville, and its transmitter is located on Sharp's Ridge in North Knoxville. Despite Jellico being WPXK-TV's city of license, the station maintains no physical presence there.

Lincoln Park United Methodist Church is a historic church at 3120 Pershing Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. The church is a brick-veneered frame building that was built in 1926. The identity of its architect is not known, but the design suggests the work of Charles I. Barber. The entrance to the building is framed by columns with Doric capitals. Interior furnishings include oak pews, stained glass windows, a coffered ceiling over the sanctuary, and an altar balustrade.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Sharp's Ridge is a steep ridge in Knoxville, Tennessee, north of the city's downtown. A 111-acre (45 ha) area of the 7-mile (11 km) ridge is maintained as Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park, a city park dedicated to the honor of the area's war veterans. The ridge also is the site of a transmitting antenna farm that serves most of Knoxville's broadcasters. The highest ground point on the ridge is an abandoned fire tower located at 1,391 feet (424 m) above mean sea level. The ridge itself averages 200 to 300 feet (40 to 60 m) above the surrounding valley floor, allowing panoramic views of the Great Smoky Mountains and adjacent ranges to the east and the Cumberland Plateau and Cumberland Mountains to the west. Sharp's Ridge is named for the Sharpe family, who lived on the ridge during the 19th century.

Oakwood-Lincoln Park is a residential and commercial neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States that was developed in the early 20th century as two suburban neighborhoods.

Fort Adair (sometimes called Adair's Station) was a stockade fortification that served as a supply depot for early settlers migrating west. The structure was constructed in 1788 or around 1791 at Grassy Valley, an early European settlement in the Appalachian Ridge-and-Valley region of East Tennessee. The presence of a supply station encouraged more Europeans to settle in the vicinity. The town of Fountain Head was founded around Fort Adair by settlers of Grassy Valley and later renamed to Fountain City. Since its annexation in 1962, Fountain City is a neighborhood of northern Knoxville, Tennessee.

Fulton High School is a secondary school in Knoxville, Tennessee, opened in 1951. It has adopted the Small Learning Community model.

WKCS (91.1 FM, "Falcon Radio") is a student-operated high school radio station in Knoxville, Tennessee, broadcasting an oldies and classic hits radio format.The station is currently owned and operated by Fulton High School, and was included in the school's charter in 1951. The "KCS" component of its call letters refers to "Knox County Schools," and the station's nickname of "Falcon Radio" is a reference to the public high school's mascot. In addition to music, the station features live broadcasts of the school's football and basketball games.WKCS is the only East Tennessee student station to operate around the clock.

Fountain City is a neighborhood in northern Knoxville, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. Although not a census-designated place (it is grouped with Knoxville for census-purposes), the populations of the two ZIP codes that serve Fountain City— 37918 and 37912— were 36,815 and 18,695, respectively, as of the 2000 U.S. census. At the time of its annexation by the city of Knoxville in 1962, Fountain City was the largest unincorporated community in the United States.

The Peters House is a historic home located at 1319 Grainger Avenue in Knoxville, Tennessee. It is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also known as White Columns or Columned Portals, as well as the George W. Peters House. The oldest part of the home was built in the 1860s as a four-room house, typical of an East Tennessee farmhouse. Behind the house there was a walkway across First Creek that connected the home with the owners' family business, the Peters & Bradley Mill, a grist mill.A major addition and renovation was undertaken in the 1880s by William E. Peters, using an architectural design by local architect George Franklin Barber. The addition more than doubled the size of the building. Its design displays Victorian and Neoclassical influences. A prominent feature is a large two-story front porch with columns. Original drawings for the expansion are held by the McClung Historical Collection. George Franklin Barber began publishing his homes in inexpensive, illustrated catalogs. He worked between 1887 and 1913, with a staff of approximately 50. Mr. Barber warned residents of the horrors of a house not designed by a trained architect, noting that Geo. F. Barber & Co. was "between you and a hideous monstrosity". Barber houses were primarily constructed in the United States, but were also found in other countries. The Peters House is privately owned, and is not open to the public.

Old North Knoxville is a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, located just north of the city's downtown area. Initially established as the town of North Knoxville in 1889, the area was a prominent suburb for Knoxville's upper middle and professional classes until the 1950s. After a period of decline, preservationists began restoring many of the neighborhood's houses in the 1980s. In 1992, over 400 houses and secondary structures in the neighborhood were added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Old North Knoxville Historic District.In the years following the Civil War, Knoxville experienced an economic boom that brought about a rapid increase in the city's population. The city gradually expanded northward and westward to accommodate the influx of new residents. The housing boom reached what is now Old North Knoxville in the late 1880s, when it was incorporated as the town of North Knoxville, and continued after its annexation by Knoxville in 1897. The neighborhood's earliest residents included doctors, politicians, and business managers, and some its earliest houses were designed by prominent Knoxville architects, such as George Barber, Charles Barber, and David Getaz. As Knoxville continued expanding northward, most notably with the annexation of Fountain City in 1962, North Knoxville became "Old" North Knoxville.
