Long Clawson and Hose railway station

Scalford railway station was a railway station serving the village of Scalford, Leicestershire on the Great Northern and London and North Western Joint Railway. It opened in 1879 and closed to regular traffic in 1953. It was the junction for a branch line to Waltham on the Wolds which was built to exploit ironstone deposits in the area.

Hose is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Clawson, Hose and Harby, in the Borough of Melton and the county of Leicestershire, England. The town of Melton Mowbray is six miles (10 km) to the south. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 421, the 2011 population of the built-up area being 580.

Harby Hill Wood is a 16.9-hectare (42-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Eastwell in Leicestershire. This site has steeply sloping ash and sycamore woodland, with areas of spring-fed marsh and colonies of wild daffodils. There is also an area of species-rich dry grassland, which has flora such as pignut and musk thistle. The site is private land but it is crossed by public footpaths.

Holwell Reserves is a 16.4 hectares (41 acres) nature reserve north of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire. It is owned and managed by the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, and is composed of Brown's Hill Quarry, Holwell Mineral Line and North Quarry. Former quarries on this site have soil which is low in nutrients and lime-rich, creating conditions for many species of wildflower to flourish. Old mine tunnels are used by Natterer's, Daubenton's, brown long-eared and pipistrelle bats. There is public access to the reserves.

Long Clawson is a village and former civil parish, now included in that of Clawson, Hose and Harby, in the Melton district and the county of Leicestershire, England. Being in the Vale of Belvoir, the village is enclosed by farmland with rich soil ideal for pasture. Milk from local farms is used for Stilton cheese, of which the Long Clawson dairy is one of the largest producers. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 664.

Scalford is a village and civil parish in the Melton borough of Leicestershire, England. It lies 4 miles (6.4 km) to the north of Melton Mowbray at the southern end of the Vale of Belvoir. In the 2011 census the parish (including Chadwell and Wycomb) had a population of 608.

Melton was a rural district in Leicestershire, England from 1894 to 1935. It was created in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 as a successor to the Melton Rural Sanitary District. It entirely surrounded, but did not include, Melton Mowbray Under the County Review Orders of the 1930s it was merged with the Belvoir Rural District to form a larger Melton and Belvoir Rural District, with Eye Kettleby and parts of other parishes going to Melton Mowbray Urban District.

Clawson, Hose and Harby is a civil parish in Leicestershire, England, forming part of the Melton district. It contains the villages of Harby, Hose and Long Clawson and the parish was created from those former parishes on 1 April 1936 (originally named as just "Clawson and Harby"). The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,577.

Holwell Mouth is a 14.5-hectare (36-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest south-east of Nether Broughton in Leicestershire. It is common land. This marsh on Jurassic clay is in the valley of the River Smite, which runs through the site. There are also areas of grassland, bracken and woodland, and the diverse habitats support a range of birds and insects. There is public access to the site.

Harby is an English village and a former civil parish, now in the parish of Clawson, Hose and Harby, in the Melton district, in the county of Leicestershire. It lies in the Vale of Belvoir, 9.4 miles (15.1 km) north of Melton Mowbray and 13.9 miles (22.4 km) west-south-west of Grantham. Although in Leicestershire, the county town of Leicester is further – 21.4 miles (34.4 km) – than Nottingham – 15.7 miles (25.3 km). The village lies on the south side of the Grantham Canal. Belvoir Castle, 6 miles (9.7 km) to the north-east, is conspicuous on the horizon.

Wycomb is a small hamlet in the district of Melton, which is approximately 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, and is part of the civil parish of Scalford, which also includes the neighbouring village of Chadwell. Until 1 April 1936 it was in the parish of Wycomb and Chadwell. The settlement name (originally recorded as Wykeham) means 'wīc-hām (Old English) A settlement associated with a Roman 'vicus'. Wycomb is half a mile west of Chadwell, and Wycomb has traditionally used Chadwell's church. The Church of St Mary is a Grade II* Listed building.
