Pioneer Works is a non-profit cultural center in Red Hook, New York City. The center builds community through the arts and sciences to create an open and inspired world. It encourages radical thinking across disciplines by providing practitioners a space to work, tools to create, and a platform to exchange ideas that are free and open to all. 85% of its funds are spent on free programming.

The Intercourse is an arts center in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A., founded by contemporary artist Dustin Yellin in 2012. The center includes a large scale exhibition space, a garden and sculpture park, an artist-in-residency program, a class and lecture series. The Intercourse opened to the public in June 2012 with Adam Green's show Cartoon and Complaint.

The Segal Lock and Hardware Company of Manhattan, New York, was a leading manufacturer of hardware merchandise and razor blades in the 1920s and 1930s. Established in Connecticut and Manhattan, the firm relocated to Brooklyn, New York, in the mid-1920s. The Segal Safety Razor Corporation was a subsidiary of the Segal Lock and Hardware Company. The business was at first known as the Burglar-Proof Lock Company.Segal was started by Samuel Segal, formerly a New York City detective in 1912, through his invention of a nearly burglar-proof lock. The vertical deadbolt lock eliminated a horizontal bolt, concentrating on the hinge principle. Segal had noticed that burglars forced locks but never hinges. The firm's beginning was aided by a few more policeman. The original capital was approximately $1,000. Segal and his associates refused $1,000,000 in cash for their fifty separate lock patents. Shortly before her death Mrs. May Stevenson Segal, wife of Samuel Segal, invented a burglar-proof lock, which was marketed to a leading lock manufacturer.

The Brooklyn Street Circuit is a street circuit in the Red Hook neighborhood of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, adjacent to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal along Brooklyn's western coast. It was created for the New York City ePrix of the single-seater, electrically powered Formula E championship. Its first use was during the 2016–17 Formula E season when it hosted the 2017 New York City ePrix. Following the last known CART PPG Cup races in the New York metropolitan area in the 1980s, there have been several failed attempts to establish a race in or near New York City for a major automobile series. In September 2016, New York City and Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) officials announced the establishment of a 2017 event in the city for Formula E, with the Red Hook location selected over other potential sites including Central Park. The race was approved due to the absence of air pollution and noise disturbances from the electric-powered race cars, compared to normal gasoline-powered racing automobiles. The inaugural New York City ePrix events were held on July 15−16, 2017, with Sam Bird of DS Virgin Racing winning both races.

Red Hook is a neighborhood in northwestern Brooklyn, New York City, New York, within the area once known as South Brooklyn. It is located on a peninsula projecting into the Upper New York Bay and is bounded by the Gowanus Expressway and the Carroll Gardens neighborhood on the northeast, Gowanus Canal on the east, and the Upper New York Bay on the west and south. A prosperous shipping and port area in the early 20th century, the area declined in the latter part of the century. Today it is home to the Red Hook Houses, the largest housing project in Brooklyn. Red Hook is part of Brooklyn Community District 6, and its primary ZIP Code is 11231. It is patrolled by the 76th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. Politically, Red Hook is represented by the New York City Council's 38th District.

The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is a cruise terminal in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City. The terminal is 180,000 square feet (17,000 m2) and sits on Buttermilk Channel, a tidal strait separating Brooklyn from Governors Island. It is located on land owned by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and leased by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC). The terminal is one of three terminals for ocean-going cruise ships in the New York metropolitan area. Ships from Carnival Corporation (which owns the Cunard and Princess Cruises) call the terminal their home port. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal is located at Red Hook Pier 12, on the south side of the Atlantic Basin at Pioneer and Imlay Streets. Vehicular access is through the main gate near the intersection of Bowne and Imlay Streets. The terminal was converted from a 1954 freight terminal and was earlier the site of the Atlantic Basin Iron Works. The Brooklyn Cruise Terminal opened on April 15, 2006, following a $52 million investment by NYCEDC, with the arrival of the RMS Queen Mary 2. On July 15 and 16, 2017, the Brooklyn Street Circuit in the port and supporting roads hosted the Formula E electric car racing series's ninth and tenth round in the 2016–17 Formula E season.

Uhuru Design is a Brooklyn-based design and build sustainable furniture company known for its reuse of used materials. Founded in 2004 by Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) graduates Jason Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf, Uhuru's acclaimed material reuse projects includes reclaiming and hand-working wood from the Coney Island Boardwalk and Kentucky bourbon distilleries, as well as upcycling found materials.In 2011, Uhuru partnered with sustainability entrepreneur Daniel Husserl to grow the company's international presence, production capabilities and interior design division. Prior to joining Uhuru, Daniel was co-founder at furniture company Aellon and founder at sustainability strategy firm NaturalProgression.Uhuru has work in the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution and the Brooklyn Museum of Art, and featured in the Milwaukee Art Museum, A+D Museum in Los Angeles, and the New Museum in New York City.Uhuru builds each piece by hand in their Brooklyn workshop and has a showroom at the same location. Uhuru has collaborated with designers and architects worldwide, as well as artists such as Maya Lin for the Cooper–Hewitt and Dan Colen at the Gagosian Gallery.

Sixpoint Brewery is a brewery founded 2004, in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York, USA. The Sixpoint logo is a combination of the brewer's hexagram and the nautical star. The company's motto is Beer is Culture, a play on the cultural significance of beer and brewing, as well as the point that yeast is, in fact, a culture. Sixpoint ascribes to a "Mad Science" approach to brewing through a use of ingredients and techniques.

The Waterfront Museum was formerly Lehigh Valley Barge No. 79, a Lehigh Valley Railroad barge that moved goods across the Hudson River. It dates to 1914 and is believed to be the sole all-wooden vessel built between 1860 and 1960 to remain accessible and afloat.It is currently docked and operated as a museum at the foot of Conover Street in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood where it provides a range of educational and entertainment programming. It was also the location for the US premiere of Arthur Miller's The Hook.The museum was established in 1985 following the restoration project by founder and juggler David Sharps. He subsequently relocated the barge to Red Hook where it has remained since 1994. He continued to serve as President through the museum's first twenty-five years of operation.

Rocky Sullivan's is a New York City Irish style pub opened in 1996 by the musician Chris Byrne (Seanchai and the Unity Squad, Black 47 and Paddy-A-Go-Go) and the journalist Patrick Farrelly (HBO's Left of the Dial, Irish Voice, Michael Moore's TV Nation). The bar is named after James Cagney's character in the 1938 movie Angels With Dirty Faces co-starring Humphrey Bogart. It is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, on the corner of Dwight and Van Dyke Streets, from its original location at East 29th Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. The third incarnation of Rocky Sullivan's is now located a block away at 46 Beard St. Corner of Dwight and Beard Sts, across from IKEA.Entertainment includes a pub quiz on Thursdays, Irish language classes on Tuesdays and live music on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Authors' readings, held on the last Wednesday of the month and on other occasions, have drawn enthusiastic crowds and top flight writers, including Roddy Doyle, Frank McCourt, Edna O'Brien, Pete Hamill, Rosemary Breslin, Jimmy Breslin, Mike Lupica and Brendan O'Carroll.

The Atlantic Basin Iron Works was a ship repair and conversion facility that operated in Brooklyn, New York, from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. It converted numerous ships to military use in World War II. Founded before 1910, the yard had its headquarters at 18–20 Summit Street. By 1920, the yard was known for its construction and repair of oil-fired boilers, diesel engines, and refrigeration units.In World War II the company specialized in ship conversion and repair, and like most US shipyards at the time, it was heavily contracted for work by the United States Army, United States Navy and United States Maritime Commission. In 1941–42 the company converted the 9,300-ton passenger and cargo steamship Rio Parana into the British Royal Navy escort carrier HMS Biter.The company's owner, Bernard A. Moran, was strongly anti-union and had defied attempts by the CIO's Marine and Shipbuilding Workers Union to secure a contract with the company since November 1938. His approach became problematic in the war after President Franklin D. Roosevelt's War Labor Board ordered Moran under its broad war powers to sign a union security (maintenance-of-membership) contract. In spite of warnings that he might lose all his government contracts or have his company seized, Moran remained intransigent, and after three months of legal wrangling, the government made good on its threat and seized the company in September 1943, taking direct control of its management. In 1947–48 the shipyard converted the 20,614-gross register ton (GRT) troopship USAT Brazil back into the Moore-McCormack Lines ocean liner SS Brazil. It was the largest peacetime conversion the yard had yet undertaken, and cost $9 million.The western part of the site was used later for the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.

The Real World: Brooklyn is the twenty-first season of MTV's reality television series The Real World, which focuses on a group of diverse strangers living together for several months in a different city each season, as cameras follow their lives and interpersonal relationships. It is the fourth season of The Real World to be filmed in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, specifically in New York City after The Real World: Back to New York. It is the first season to feature more than seven cast members, as it featured eight housemates living on Pier 41 in Red Hook. Although it is the only season to set in the borough of Brooklyn, it is also the third season to take place in a city that had hosted a previous season, as the show's first and tenth seasons were set in New York in 1992 and 2001. The season was aired as 13 one-hour episodes. MTV announced the location in May 2008. Filming began August 14, 2008, and concluded November 24, 2008. The series premiered January 7, 2009, and garnered an 18% increase in ratings over the previous season with 2.3 million viewers. The premiere was made available on iTunes on January 8. On January 4, MTV aired a special called The Real World: Secrets Revealed that documents the evolution of the series over the years.Prior to the beginning of the season Jon Murray, co-creator of The Real World, and Chairman and President of Bunim-Murray Productions, explained the choice of Brooklyn: "The Brooklyn season, like the Hollywood season, will focus on what people loved about 'The Real World' when it launched in 1992 - genuine people, meaningful conflict and powerful stories...We're thrilled that MTV is allowing 'The Real World' turn 21!" Cast member Chet Cannon remarked on the city that was his home for three months, "Brooklyn is usually spoken of as more a place where you don’t want to go — I just don’t want to get shot down here."Anthony Swofford, author of Jarhead, makes an appearance this season when cast member Ryan Conklin attends a meeting of Iraq Veterans Against the War. In 2010, the season was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Reality Program.
